husbandmanº and his yoke of oxen;º and with thee will I break in piecesºª captainsº and rulers.º 24 And I will renderºª unto Babylonº and to all² the inhabitantsºª of Chaldeaº² all² their evilº that² they have doneºª in Zionº in your sight,º saithºª the LORD.º 25 Behold,² I [am] against² thee, O destroyingº mountain,º saithºª the LORD,º which destroyestºª² all² the earth:º and I will stretch outºª² mine handº upon² thee, and roll thee downºª from² the rocks,º and will makeºª thee a burntº mountain.º 26 And they shall not² takeºª of² thee a stoneº for a corner,º nor a stoneº for foundations;º but² thou shalt be² desolateº for ever,º saithºª the LORD.º 27 Set ye upºª a standardº in the land,º blowºª the trumpetº among the nations,º prepareºª the nationsº against² her, call togetherºª against² her the kingdomsº of Ararat,º Minni,º and Ashchenaz;º appointºª a captainº against² her; cause the horsesº to come upºª as the roughº caterpillers.º 28 Prepareºª against² her the nationsº with² the kingsº of the Medes,º² the captainsº thereof, and all² the rulersº thereof, and all² the landº of his dominion.º 29 And the landº shall trembleºª and sorrow:ºª for² every purposeº of the LORDº shall be performedºª against² Babylon,º to makeºª² the landº of Babylonº a desolationº without²² an inhabitant.ºª 30 The mighty menº of Babylonº have forbornºª to fight,ºª they have remainedºª in [their] holds:º their mightº hath failed;ºª they became² as women:º they have burnedºª her dwellingplaces;º her barsº are broken.ºª 31 One postºª shall runºª to meetºª another,ºª and one messengerºª to meetºª another,ºª to shewºª the kingº of Babylonº that² his cityº is takenºª at [one] end,º² 32 And that the passagesº are stopped,ºª and the reedsº they have burnedºª with fire,º and the men¹² of warº are affrighted.ºª 33 For² thus² saithºª the LORDº of hosts,º the Godº of Israel;º The daughterº of Babylonº [is] like a threshingfloor,º [it is] timeº to threshºª her: yet² a little while,º and the timeº of her harvestº shall come.ºª 34 Nebuchadrezzarº the kingº of Babylonº hath devouredºª me, he hath crushedºª me, he hath madeºª me an emptyº vessel,º he hath swallowed me upºª like a dragon,º he hath filledºª his bellyº with my delicates,º² he hath cast me out.ºª 35 The violenceº done to me and to my fleshº [be] upon² Babylon,º shall the inhabitantºª of Zionº say;ºª and my bloodº upon² the inhabitantsºª of Chaldea,º shall Jerusalemº say.ºª 36 Therefore² thus² saithºª the LORD;º Behold,² I will pleadºª² thy cause,º and take vengeance¹ª for thee;º²² and I will dry upºª² her sea,º and make² her springsº dry.ºª 37 And Babylonº shall become² heaps,º a dwellingplaceº for dragons,º an astonishment,º and an hissing,º without²² an inhabitant.ºª 38 They shall roarºª togetherº like lions:º they shall yellºª as lions'º whelps.º 39 In their heatº I will makeºª² their feasts,º and I will make them drunken,ºª that² they may rejoice,ºª and sleepºª a perpetualº sleep,º and not² wake,ºª saithºª the LORD.º 40 I will bring them downºª like lambsº to the slaughter,ºª like ramsº with² he goats.º 41 How² is Sheshachº taken!ºª and how is the praiseº of the whole² earthº surprised!ºª how² is Babylonº become² an astonishmentº among the nations!º 42 The seaº is come upºª upon² Babylon:º she is coveredºª with the multitudeº of the wavesº thereof. 43 Her citiesº are² a desolation,º a dryº land,º and a wilderness,º a landº wherein² no²² manº dwelleth,ºª neither² doth [any] sonº of manº passºª thereby.º 44 And I will punishºª² Belº in Babylon,º and I will bring forthºª out of his mouthº²² that which he hath swallowed up:º and the nationsº shall not² flow togetherºª any more² unto² him: yea,² the wallº of Babylonº shall fall.ºª 45 My people,º go² ye out¹ª of the midstº² of her, and deliverºª ye every manº² his soulº from the fierceº² angerº of the LORD.º 46 And lest² your heartº faint,ºª and ye fearºª for the rumourº that shall be heardºª in the land;º a rumourº shall both comeºª [one] year,º and afterº that in [another] yearº [shall come] a rumour,º and violenceº in the land,º rulerºª against² ruler.ºª 47 Therefore,² behold,² the daysº come,ºª that I will do judgmentºª upon² the graven imagesº of Babylon:º and her whole² landº shall be confounded,ºª and all² her slainº shall fallºª in the midstº of her. 48 Then the heavenº and the earth,º and all² that² [is] therein, shall singºª for² Babylon:º for² the spoilersºª shall comeºª unto her from the north,º² saithºª the LORD.º 49 Asº Babylonº [hath caused] the slainº of Israelº to fall,ºª so² at Babylonº shall fallºª the slainº of all² the earth.º 50 Ye that have escaped¹² the sword,º² go away,ºª stand not still:ºª² rememberºª² the LORDº afar off,º and let Jerusalemº comeºª into² your mind.º 51 We are confounded,ºª because² we have heardºª reproach:º shameº hath coveredºª our faces:º for² strangersºª are comeºª into² the sanctuariesº of the LORD'Sº house.º 52 Wherefore,² behold,² the daysº come,ºª saithºª the LORD,º that I will do judgmentºª upon² her graven images:º and through all² her landº the woundedº shall groan.ºª 53 Though² Babylonº should mount upºª to heaven,º and though² she should fortifyºª the heightº of her strength,º [yet]¹ from²² me shall spoilersºª comeºª unto her, saithºª the LORD.º 54 A soundº of a cryº [cometh] from Babylon,º² and greatº destructionº from the landº² of the Chaldeans:º 55 Because² the LORDº hath spoiledºª² Babylon,º and destroyedºª out of² her the greatº voice;º when her wavesº do roarºª like greatº waters,º a noiseº of their voiceº is uttered:ºª 56 Because² the spoilerºª is comeºª upon² her, [even] upon² Babylon,º and her mighty menº are taken,ºª every one of their bowsº is broken:ºª for² the LORDº Godº of recompencesº shall surely¹ª requite.ºª 57 And I will make drunkºª her princes,º and her wiseº [men], her captains,º and her rulers,º and her mighty men:º and they shall sleepºª a perpetualº sleep,º and not² wake,ºª saithºª the King,º whose nameº [is] the LORDº of hosts.º 58 Thus² saithºª the LORDº of hosts;º The broadº wallsº of Babylonº shall be utterly¹ª broken,ºª and her highº gatesº shall be burnedºª with fire;º and the peopleº shall labourºª in vain,º and the folkº in¹ the fire,º and they shall be weary.ºª

59 ¶ The wordº which² Jeremiahº the prophetº commandedºª² Seraiahº the sonº of Neriah,º the sonº of Maaseiah,º when he went¹ª² with² Zedekiahº the kingº of Judahº into Babylonº in the fourthº yearº of his reign.ºª And [this] Seraiahº [was] a quietº prince.º 60 So Jeremiahº wroteºª in² aº bookº² all² the evilº that² should comeºª upon² Babylon,º [even]² all² these² wordsº that are writtenºª against² Babylon.º 61 And Jeremiahº saidºª to² Seraiah,º When thou comestºª to Babylon,º and shalt see,ºª and shalt readºª² all² these² words;º 62 Then shalt thou say,ºª O LORD,º thou² hast spokenºª against² this² place,º to cut it off,ºª that none² shall² remainºª in it, neither manº² nor² beast,º but² that it shall be² desolateº for ever.º 63 And it shall be,² when thou hast made an endºª of readingºª² this² book,º [that] thou shalt bindºª a stoneº to² it, and castºª it into² the midstº of Euphrates:º 64 And thou shalt say,ºª Thus² shall Babylonº sink,ºª and shall not² riseºª fromº² the evilº that² I² will bringºª upon² her: and they shall be weary.ºª Thus² far² [are] the wordsº of Jeremiah.º
