The building of Solomon's Temple.

1 ¶ And it came to pass² in the fourº hundredº¹ and eightiethº yearº after the childrenº of Israelº were come outºª of the landº² of Egypt,º in the fourthº yearº of Solomon'sº reignºª over² Israel,º in the monthº Zif,º which² [is] the secondº month,º that he began to buildºª the houseº of the LORD.º 2 And the houseº which² kingº Solomonº builtºª for the LORD,º the lengthº thereof [was] threescoreº cubits,º and the breadthº thereof twentyº [cubits], and the heightº thereof thirtyº cubits.º 3 And the porchº beforeº² the templeº of the house,º twentyº cubitsº [was] the lengthº thereof, according²² to the breadthº of the house;º [and] tenº cubitsº [was] the breadthº thereof before²² the house.º 4 And for the houseº he madeºª windowsº of narrowºª lights.º

The chambers thereof.

5 ¶ And against² the wallº of the houseº he builtºª chambersºª round about,º [against]² the wallsº of the houseº round about,º [both] of the templeº and of the oracle:º and he madeºª chambersº round about:º 6 The nethermostº chamberºª [was] fiveº cubitsº broad,º and the middleº [was] sixº cubitsº broad,º and the thirdº [was] sevenº cubitsº broad:º for² without² [in the wall] of¹ the houseº he madeºª narrowed restsº round about,º that [the beams] should not² be fastenedºª in the wallsº of the house.º 7 And the house,º when it was in building,ºª was builtºª of stoneº made readyº before it was broughtº thither: so that there was neither² hammer¹² nor axeº [nor] any² toolº of ironº heardºª in the house,º while it was in building.ºª 8 The doorº for the middleº chamberº [was] in² the rightº sideº of the house:º and they went upºª with winding stairsº into² the middleº [chamber], and out of² the middleº into² the third.º 9 So he builtºª² the house,º and finishedºª it; and coveredºª² the houseº with beamsº and boardsº of cedar.º 10 And [then] he builtºª² chambersºª against² all² the house,º fiveº cubitsº high:º and they rested¹ª on²² the houseº [with] timberº of cedar.º

God's promise unto it.

11 ¶ And the wordº of the LORDº came² to² Solomon,º saying,ºª 12 [Concerning] this² houseº which² thou² art in building,ºª if² thou wilt walk¹ª² in my statutes,º and executeºª my judgments,º and keepºª² all² my commandmentsº to walk¹ª² in them; then will I performºª² my wordº with thee,² which² I spakeºª unto² Davidº thy father:º 13 And I will dwellºª amongº the childrenº of Israel,º and will not² forsakeºª² my peopleº Israel.º 14 So Solomonº builtºª² the house,º and finishedºª it.

The cieling and adorning of it.

15 And he builtºª² the wallsº of the houseº withinº² with boardsº of cedar,º both the floorº² of the house,º and the wallsº of the cieling:º [and] he coveredºª [them] on the insideº² with wood,º and coveredºª² the floorº of the houseº with planksº of fir.º 16 And he builtºª² twentyº cubitsº on the sidesº² of the house,º bothº the floorº and the wallsº with boardsº of cedar:º he even builtºª [them] for it within,º² [even] for the oracle,º [even] for the most¹ holyº [place]. 17 And the house,º that² [is], the templeº beforeº it, was² fortyº cubitsº [long]. 18 And the cedarº of² the houseº withinº [was] carvedº with knopsº and open¹ª² flowers:º all² [was] cedar;º there was no² stoneº seen.ºª 19 And the oracleº he preparedºª in¹ the houseº² within,º² to setºª there²² the arkº of the covenantº of the LORD.º 20 And the oracleº in the forepartº [was] twentyº cubitsº in length,º and twentyº cubitsº in breadth,º and twentyº cubitsº in the heightº thereof: and he overlaidºª it with pureºª gold;º and [so] coveredºª the altarº [which was of] cedar.º 21 So Solomonº overlaidºª² the houseº withinº² with pureºª gold:º and he made a partitionºª by the chainsºª² of goldº beforeº the oracle;º and he overlaidºª it with gold.º 22 And the whole² houseº he overlaidºª with gold,º until² he had finishedºª all² the house:º also the whole² altarº that² [was] by the oracleº he overlaidºª with gold.º

The cherubims.

23 ¶ And within the oracleº he madeºª twoº cherubimsº [of] oliveº tree,º [each] tenº cubitsº high.º 24 And fiveº cubitsº [was] the oneº wingº of the cherub,º and fiveº cubitsº the otherº wingº of the cherub:º from the uttermost partº² of the one wingº unto² the uttermost partº of the otherº [were] tenº cubits.º 25 And the otherº cherubº [was] tenº cubits:º bothº the cherubimsº [were] of oneº measureº and oneº size.º 26 The heightº of the oneº cherubº [was] tenº cubits,º and so² [was it] of the otherº cherub.º 27 And he setºª² the cherubimsº withinº the innerº house:º and they stretched forthºª² the wingsº of the cherubims,º so that the wingº of the oneº touchedºª the [one] wall,º and the wingº of the otherº cherubº touchedºª the otherº wall;º and their wingsº touchedºª oneº anotherº² in² the midstº of the house.º 28 And he overlaidºª² the cherubimsº with gold.º 29 And he carvedºª all² the wallsº of the houseº round aboutº with carvedº figuresº of cherubimsº and palm treesº and open¹ª² flowers,º within¹²² and without.º 30 And the floorº of the houseº he overlaidºª with gold,º withinº and without.º

The doors.

31 ¶ And for the enteringº of the oracleº he madeºª doorsº [of] oliveº tree:º the lintelº [and] side postsº [were] a fifth partº [of the wall]. 32 The twoº doorsº also [were of] oliveº tree;º and he carvedºª upon² them carvingsº of cherubimsº and palm treesº and open¹ª² flowers,º and overlaidºª [them] with gold,º and spreadºª² goldº upon² the cherubims,º and upon² the palm trees.º 33 So² also madeºª he for the doorº of the templeº postsº [of] oliveº tree,º a fourth partº²² [of the wall]. 34 And the twoº doorsº [were of] firº tree:º the twoº leavesº of the oneº doorº [were] folding,º and the twoº leavesº of the otherº doorº [were] folding.º 35 And he carvedºª [thereon] cherubimsº and palm treesº and open¹ª² flowers:º and coveredºª [them] with goldº fittedºª upon² the carved work.ºª

The court.

36 ¶ And he builtºª the innerº² courtº with threeº rowsº of hewed stone,º and a rowº of cedarº beams.º

The time of building it.

37 ¶ In the fourthº yearº was the foundationºª of the houseº of the LORDº laid,¹ª in the monthº Zif:º 38 And in the eleventhºº year,º in the monthº Bul,º which² [is] the eighthº month,º was the houseº finishedºª throughout all² the partsº thereof, and according to all² the fashionº of it. So was he sevenº yearsº in buildingºª it.
