Elisha multiplieth the widow's oil.

1 ¶ Now there criedºª a certainº womanº of the wivesº² of the sonsº of the prophetsº unto² Elisha,º saying,ºª Thy servantº my husbandº is dead;ºª and thou² knowestºª that² thy servantº did² fear¹²² the LORD:º and the creditorºª is comeºª to takeºª unto him² my twoº sonsº to be bondmen.º 2 And Elishaº saidºª unto² her, What² shall I doºª for thee? tellºª me, what² hastº thou in the house?º And she said,ºª Thine handmaidº hath not² any thing² in the house,º save²² a potº of oil.º 3 Then he said,ºª Go,¹ª² borrowºª thee vesselsº abroadº² of²² all² thy neighbours,º [even] emptyº vessels;º borrow not a few.ºª² 4 And when thou art come in,ºª thou shalt shutºª the doorº upon² thee and upon² thy sons,º and shalt pour outºª into² all² those² vessels,º and thou shalt set asideºª that which is full.º 5 So she went¹ª² from²² him, and shutºª the doorº upon² her and uponº her sons,º whoº broughtºª [the vessels] to² her; and she² poured out.ºª 6 And it came to pass,² when the vesselsº were full,ºª that she saidºª unto² her son,º Bringºª² me yet² a vessel.º And he saidºª unto² her, [There is] not² a vesselº more.² And the oilº stayed.ºª 7 Then she cameºª and toldºª the manº of God.º And he said,ºª Go,¹ª² sellºª² the oil,º and payºª² thy debt,º and liveºª thou² and thy childrenº of the rest.ºª

He giveth a son to the good Shunammite.

8 ¶ And it fell² on a day,º that Elishaº passedºª to² Shunem,º where² [was] a greatº woman;º and she constrainedºª him to eatºª bread.º And [so] it was,² [that] as oftº² as he passed by,ºª he turned¹ª in² thither² to eatºª bread.º 9 And she saidºª unto² her husband,º Behold² now,² I perceiveºª that² this² [is] an holyº manº of God,º which passeth¹ª by²² us continually.º 10 Let us makeºª a littleº chamber,º I pray thee,² on the wall;º and let us setºª for him there² a bed,º and a table,º and a stool,º and a candlestick:º and it shall be,² when he comethºª to² us, that he shall turn¹ª in² thither.² 11 And it fell² on a day,º that he cameºª thither,² and he turnedºª into² the chamber,º and layºª there.² 12 And he saidºª to² Gehaziº his servant,º Callºª this² Shunammite.º And when he had calledºª her, she stoodºª beforeº him. 13 And he saidºª unto him, Sayºª now² unto² her, Behold,² thou hast been carefulºª for² us with² all² this² care;º what² [is] to be doneºª for thee? wouldestº thou be spokenºª for to² the king,º or² to² the captainº of the host?º And she answered,ºª I² dwellºª amongº mine own people.º 14 And he said,ºª What² then [is] to be doneºª for her? And Gehaziº answered,ºª Verilyº she hath no² child,º and her husbandº is old.ºª 15 And he said,ºª Callºª her. And when he had calledºª her, she stoodºª in the door.º 16 And he said,ºª About this² season,º according to the timeº of life,º thou² shalt embraceºª a son.º And she said,ºª Nay,² my lord,º [thou] manº of God,º do not lieºª² unto thine handmaid.º 17 And the womanº conceived,ºª and bareºª a sonº at that² seasonº that² Elishaº had saidºª unto² her, according to the timeº of life.º

He raiseth again her dead son.

18 ¶ And when the childº was grown,ºª it fell² on a day,º that he went outºª to² his fatherº to² the reapers.ºª 19 And he saidºª unto² his father,º My head,º my head.º And he saidºª to² a lad,º Carryºª him to² his mother.º 20 And when he had takenºª him, and broughtºª him to² his mother,º he satºª on² her kneesº till² noon,º and [then] died.ºª 21 And she went up,ºª and laidºª him on² the bedº of the manº of God,º and shutºª [the door] upon² him, and went out.ºª 22 And she calledºª unto² her husband,º and said,ºª Sendºª me, I pray thee,² oneº of² the young men,º and oneº of the asses,º that I may runºª to² the manº of God,º and come again.ºª 23 And he said,ºª Wherefore² wilt thou² goºª to² him to day?º [it is] neither² new moon,º nor² sabbath.º And she said,ºª [It shall be] well.º 24 Then she saddledºª an ass,º and saidºª to² her servant,º Drive,ºª and go forward;¹ª² slackºª not² [thy] ridingºª for me, except²² I bidºª thee. 25 So she went¹ª² and cameºª unto² the manº of Godº to² mountº Carmel.º And it came to pass,² when the manº of Godº saw² her afar off,¹ª²² that he saidºª to² Gehaziº his servant,º Behold,² [yonder is] thatº Shunammite:º 26 Runºª now,² I pray thee,² to meet¹ª² her, and sayºª unto her, [Is it] wellº with thee? [is it] wellº with thy husband?º [is it] wellº with the child?º And she answered,ºª [It is] well.º 27 And when she cameºª to² the manº of Godº to² the hill,º she caughtºª him by the feet:º but Gehaziº came nearºª to thrust her away.ºª And the manº of Godº said,ºª Let her alone;ºª for² her soulº [is] vexedºª within her: and the LORDº hath hidºª [it] from² me, and hath not² toldºª me. 28 Then she said,ºª Did I desireºª a sonº of²² my lord?º did I not² say,ºª Do not² deceiveºª me? 29 Then he saidºª to Gehazi,º Gird upºª thy loins,º and takeºª my staffº in thine hand,º and go thy way:¹ª² if² thou meetºª any man,º saluteºª him not;² and if² anyº saluteºª thee, answer² him not² again:¹ª and layºª my staffº upon² the faceº of the child.º 30 And the motherº of the childº said,ºª [As] the LORDº liveth,º and [as] thy soulº liveth,º I will not² leaveºª thee. And he arose,ºª and followedº¹ª² her. 31 And Gehaziº passed onºª beforeº them, and laidºª² the staffº upon² the faceº of the child;º but [there was] neither² voice,º nor² hearing.º Wherefore he went againºª to meet¹ª² him, and toldºª him, saying,ºª The childº is not² awaked.ºª 32 And when Elishaº was comeºª into the house,º behold,² the childº was dead,ºª [and] laidºª upon² his bed.º 33 He went inºª therefore, and shutºª the doorº upon² them twain,º and prayedºª unto² the LORD.º 34 And he went up,ºª and layºª upon² the child,º and putºª his mouthº upon² his mouth,º and his eyesº upon² his eyes,º and his handsº upon² his hands:º and he stretchedºª himself upon² the child; and the fleshº of the childº waxed warm.ºª 35 Then he returned,ºª and walked¹ª² in the houseº to¹¹ and fro;ºº and went up,ºª and stretchedºª himself upon² him: and the childº sneezedºª² sevenº times,º and the childº openedºª² his eyes.º 36 And he calledºª² Gehazi,º and said,ºª Callºª² this² Shunammite.º So he calledºª her. And when she was come² in¹ª unto² him, he said,ºª Take upºª thy son.º 37 Then she went in,ºª and fellºª at² his feet,º and bowed¹ª herself² to the ground,º and took upºª² her son,º and went out.ºª

At Gilgal he healeth the deadly pottage.

38 ¶ And Elishaº came againºª to Gilgal:º and [there was] a dearthº in the land;º and the sonsº of the prophetsº [were] sittingºª beforeº him: and he saidºª unto his servant,º Set¹ª on² the greatº pot,º and seetheºª pottageº for the sonsº of the prophets.º 39 And oneº went outºª into² the fieldº to gatherºª herbs,º and foundºª a wildº vine,º and gatheredºª thereof² wildº gourdsº his lapº full,º and cameºª and shredºª [them] into² the potº of pottage:º for² they knewºª [them] not.² 40 So they poured outºª for the men¹² to eat.ºª And it came to pass,² as they were eatingºª of the pottage,º² that they² cried out,ºª and said,ºª O [thou] manº of God,º [there is] deathº in the pot.º And they couldºª not² eatºª [thereof]. 41 But he said,ºª Then bringºª meal.º And he castºª [it] into² the pot;º and he said,ºª Pour outºª for the people,º that they may eat.ºª And there was² no² harmºº in the pot.º

He satisfieth an hundred men with twenty loaves.

42 ¶ And there cameºª a manº from Baalshalisha,º² and broughtºª the manº of Godº breadº of the firstfruits,º twentyº loavesº of barley,º and full ears of cornº in the huskº thereof. And he said,ºª Giveºª unto the people,º that they may eat.ºª 43 And his servitorºª said,ºª What,² should I setºª this² beforeº an hundredº men?º He said² again,¹ª Giveºª the people,º that they may eat:ºª for² thus² saithºª the LORD,º They shall eat,ºª and shall leaveºª [thereof]. 44 So he setºª [it] beforeº them, and they did eat,ºª and leftºª [thereof], according to the wordº of the LORD.º
