NASB — Isaiah 5 — KJV

Parable of the Vineyard

  1 Let me sing° now° for my well-beloved°
  A song° of my beloved° concerning His vineyard°.
  My well-beloved° had° a avineyard° on Ia fertile°° hill°.
  2 He dug° it all around°, removed° its stones°,
  And planted° it with Ithe achoicest° vine°.
  And He built° a tower° in the middle° of it
  And also° hewed° out a IIwine° vat° in it;
  Then He bexpected° [it] to produce° [good] grapes°,
  But it produced° [only] IIIworthless° ones°.

  3 ¶ “And now°, O inhabitants° of Jerusalem° and men° of Judah°,
  aJudge° between° Me and My vineyard°.
  4aWhat° more° was there to do° for My vineyard° Ithat I have not done° in it?
  Why°, when I expected° [it] to produce° [good] grapes° did it produce° IIworthless° ones°?
  5 “So now° let Me tell° you what° I am going to do° to My vineyard°:
  I will aremove° its hedge° and it will be consumed°;
  I will bbreak° down° its wall° and it will become° ctrampled° ground°.
  6 “I will alay° it waste°;
  It will not be pruned° or hoed°,
  But briars° and thorns° will come° up.

  11 Woe° to those who rise° early° in the morning° that they may pursue° astrong° drink°,
  Who stay° up late° in the evening° that wine° may inflame° them!

Under the parable of a vineyard God excuseth his severe judgment.

1 ¶ Now² will I singºª to my wellbelovedº a songº of my belovedº touching his vineyard.º My wellbelovedº hath² a vineyardº in a very fruitful¹¹ hill:º²² 2 And he fencedºª it, and gathered out the stonesºª thereof, and plantedºª it with the choicest vine,º and builtºª a towerº in the midstº of it, and also² madeºª a winepressº therein: and he lookedºª that it should bring forthºª grapes,º and it brought forthºª wild grapes.º 3 And now,² O inhabitantsºª of Jerusalem,º and menº of Judah,º judge,ºª I pray you,² betwixt² me and my vineyard.º 4 What² could have been doneºª more² to my vineyard,º that I have not² doneºª in it? wherefore,º when I lookedºª that it should bring forthºª grapes,º brought it forthºª wild grapes?º 5 And now² go to; I will tellºª² you² what² I² will doºª to my vineyard:º I will take awayºª the hedgeº thereof, and it shall be² eaten up;ºª [and] break downºª the wallº thereof, and it shall be² trodden down:º 6 And I will layºª it waste:º it shall not² be pruned,¹ª² nor² digged;ºª but there shall come upºª briersº and thorns:º I will also commandºª² the cloudsº that they rain¹ª no rainº²² upon² it. 7 For² the vineyardº of the LORDº of hostsº [is] the houseº of Israel,º and the menº of Judahº his pleasantº plant:º and he lookedºª for judgment,º but behold² oppression;º for righteousness,º but behold² a cry.º

The executioners of God's judgments.

26 ¶ And he will lift upºª an ensignº to the nationsº from far,º² and will hissºª unto them from the endº² of the earth:º and, behold,² they shall comeºª with speedº swiftly:º 27 None² shall be wearyº nor² stumbleºª among them; none² shall slumberºª nor² sleep;ºª neither² shall the girdleº of their loinsº be loosed,ºª nor² the latchetº of their shoesº be broken:ºª 28 Whose² arrowsº [are] sharp,ºª and all² their bowsº bent,ºª their horses'º hoofsº shall be countedºª like flint,¹² and their wheelsº like a whirlwind:º 29 Their roaringº [shall be] like a lion,º they shall roarºªªª like young lions:º yea, they shall roar,ºª and lay holdºª of the prey,º and shall carry [it] away safe,ºª and none² shall deliverºª [it]. 30 And in that² dayº they shall roarºª against² them like the roaringº of the sea:º and if [one] lookºª unto the land,º behold² darknessº [and] sorrow,º and the lightº is darkenedºª in the heavensº thereof.
