  8 “Their Iadescendants° are established° with them in their sight°,
  And their offspring° before their eyes°,
  9 Their houses° aare safe° from fear°,
  And the rod° of God° is not on them.
  10 “His ox° mates° Iwithout° fail°;
  His cow° calves° and does not abort°.
  11 “They send° forth their little° ones° like the flock°,
  And their children° skip° about°.
  12 “They Ising° to the timbrel° and harp°
  And rejoice° at the sound° of the flute°.
  13 “They aspend° their days° in prosperity°,

  We do not even desire° the knowledge° of Your ways°.
  15IWho° is IIthe Almighty°, that we should serve° Him,
  And awhat° would we gain° if° we entreat° Him?’

Job sheweth that even in the judgment of man he hath reason to be grieved.

1 ¶ But Jobº answeredºª and said,ºª 2 Hear¹ª diligentlyºª my speech,º and let this² be² your consolations.º 3 Sufferºª me that I² may speak;ºª and after¹ that² I have spoken,ºª mock on.ºª 4 As for me,² [is] my complaintº to man?º and if² [it were so], why² should not² my spiritº be troubled?ºª 5 Markºª² me, and be astonished,ºª and layºª [your] handº upon² [your] mouth.º 6 Even when² I rememberºª I am afraid,ºª and tremblingº taketh hold² on¹ª my flesh.º

Sometimes the wicked do so prosper, and they despise God.

7 Wherefore² do the wickedº live,ºª become old,ºª yea,² are mightyºª in power?º 8 Their seedº is establishedºª in their sightº with² them, and their offspringº before their eyes.º 9 Their housesº [are] safeº from fear,º² neither² [is] the rodº of Godº upon² them. 10 Their bullº gendereth,ºª and failethºª not;² their cowº calveth,ºª and casteth not her calf.ºª² 11 They send forthºª their little onesº like a flock,º and their childrenº dance.ºª 12 They takeºª the timbrelº and harp,º and rejoiceºª at the soundº of the organ.º 13 They spendºªª¹ their daysº in wealth,º and in a momentº go downº¹ªªª to the grave.º 14 Therefore they sayºª unto God,º Departºª from² us; for we desireºª not² the knowledgeº of thy ways.º 15 What² [is] the Almighty,º that² we should serveºª him? and what² profitºª should we have, if² we prayºª unto him?
