Bildad Says God Rewards the Good

1 Then Bildad° the Shuhite° Ianswered°,
  2 “How° long° will you say° these° things°,
  And the awords° of your mouth° be a mighty° wind°?
  3 “Does aGod° pervert° justice°?
  Or° does Ithe Almighty° pervert° what° is right°?
  4aIf° your sons° sinned° against Him,
Then He delivered° them into the Ipower° of their transgression°.
  5 “If° you would aseek° God°
  And implore° the compassion° of Ithe Almighty°,
  6 If° you are pure° and upright°,
Surely° now° aHe would rouse° Himself for you
  And restore° your righteous° Ibestate°.
  7 “Though your beginning° was insignificant°,
  Yet your aend° will increase° greatly°.

Bildad sheweth God's justice in dealing with men according to their works.

1 ¶ Then answeredºª Bildadº the Shuhite,º and said,ºª 2 How¹ longº² wilt thou speakºª these² [things]? and [how long shall] the wordsº of thy mouthº [be like] a strongº wind?º 3 Doth Godº pervertºª judgment?º or² doth the Almightyº pervertºª justice?º 4 If² thy childrenº have sinnedºª against him, and he have cast them awayºª forº their transgression;º 5 If² thou² wouldest seek¹ª unto God¹ betimes,ºª²² and make thy supplicationºª to² the Almighty;º 6 If² thou² [wert] pureº and upright;º surely² now² he would awakeºª for² thee, and make the habitationº of thy righteousnessº prosperous.ºª 7 Though thy beginningº was² small,º yet thy latter endº should greatlyº increase.ºª

He alledgeth antiquity to prove the certain destruction of the hypocrite.

8 For² enquire,ºª I pray thee,² of the formerºª age,º and prepareºª thyself to the searchº of their fathers:º 9 (For² we² [are but of] yesterday,º and knowºª nothing,² because² our daysº upon² earthº [are] a shadow:)º 10 Shall not² they² teachºª thee, [and] tellºª thee, and utterºª wordsº out of their heart?º² 11 Can the rushº grow upºª without² mire?º can¹ª the flagº growºª withoutº water?º 12 Whilst it [is] yet² in his greenness,º [and] not² cut down,ºª it witherethºª beforeº any² [other] herb.º 13 So² [are] the pathsº of all² that forgetºª God;º and the hypocrite'sº hopeº shall perish:ºª 14 Whose² hopeº shall be cut off,ºª and whose trustº [shall be] a spider'sº web.º 15 He shall leanºª upon² his house,º but it shall not² stand:ºª he shall hold¹ª it fast,² but it shall not² endure.ºª 16 He² [is] greenº beforeº the sun,º and his branchº shooteth forthºª in² his garden.º 17 His rootsº are wrapped² about¹ª² the heap,º [and] seethºª the placeº of stones.º 18 If² he destroyºª him from his place,º² then [it] shall denyºª him, [saying], I have not² seenºª thee. 19 Behold,² this² [is] the joyº of his way,º and out of the earthº² shall othersº grow.ºª
