  The IIaambassadors° of peace° weep° bitterly°.
  8 The highways° are desolate°, Ithe atraveler° has ceased°,
  He has bbroken° the covenant°, he has despised° the cities°,
  He has no° regard° for man°.
  9 aThe land° mourns° [and] pines° away°,
  bLebanon° is shamed° [and] withers°;
  cSharon° is like a desert° plain°,
  And Bashan° and Carmel° Ilose° [their foliage].
  10 “Now° aI will arise°,” says° the LORD°,
  “Now° I will be exalted°, now° I will be lifted° up.
  11 “You have aconceived° Ichaff°, you will give° birth° to stubble°;

God's judgment against the enemies of his Church.

1 ¶ Woeº to thee that spoilest,ºª and thou² [wast] not² spoiled;ºª and dealest treacherously,ºª and they dealt not treacherouslyºª² with thee! when thou shalt ceaseºª to spoil,ºª thou shalt be spoiled;ºª [and] when thou shalt make an endºª to deal treacherously,ºª they shall deal treacherouslyºª with thee. 2 O LORD,º be graciousºª unto us; we have waitedºª for thee: be² thou their armº every morning,º our salvationº also² in the timeº of trouble.º 3 At the noiseº² of the tumultº the peopleº fled;ºª at the lifting upº² of thyself the nationsº were scattered.ºª 4 And your spoilº shall be gatheredºª [like] the gatheringº of the caterpiller:º as the running to and froº of locustsº shall he runºª upon them. 5 The LORDº is exalted;ºª for² he dwellethºª on high:º he hath filledºª Zionº with judgmentº and righteousness.º 6 And wisdomº and knowledgeº shall be² the stabilityº of thy times,º [and] strengthº of salvation:º the fearº of the LORDº [is] his treasure.º 7 Behold,² their valiant onesº shall cryºª without:º the ambassadorsº of peaceº shall weepºª bitterly.º 8 The highwaysº lie waste,ºª the wayfaring manººª ceaseth:ºª he hath brokenºª the covenant,º he hath despisedºª the cities,º he regardethºª no² man.º 9 The earthº mournethºª [and] languisheth:ºª Lebanonº is ashamedºª [and] hewn down:ºª Sharonº is² like a wilderness;º and Bashanº and Carmelº shake offºª [their fruits]. 10 Now² will I rise,ºª saithºª the LORD;º now² will I be exalted;¹ª² now² will I lift up¹ª myself.² 11 Ye shall conceiveºª chaff,º ye shall bring forthºª stubble:º your breath,º [as] fire,º shall devourºª you. 12 And the peopleº shall be² [as] the burningsº of lime:º [as] thornsº cut upºª shall they be burnedºª in the fire.º
