The mutual love of Christ and his Church.

1 ¶ I² [am] the roseº of Sharon,º [and] the lilyº of the valleys.º 2 As the lilyº among² thorns,º so² [is] my loveº among² the daughters.º 3 As the apple treeº among the treesº of the wood,º so² [is] my belovedº among² the sons.º I sat¹ª down² under his shadowº with great delight,ºª and his fruitº [was] sweetº to my taste.º 4 He broughtºª me to² the banquetingº house,º and his bannerº over² me [was] love.º 5 Stayºª me with flagons,º comfortºª me with apples:º for² I² [am] sickºª of love.º 6 His left handº [is] under² my head,º and his right handº doth embraceºª me. 7 I chargeºª you, O ye daughtersº of Jerusalem,º by the roes,º andº by the hindsº of the field,º that ye stir not up,ºª² nor² awakeºª² [my] love,º till he please.ºª²
