God confirmeth the captivity for their sins,26 ¶ Then came² the wordº of the LORDº unto² Jeremiah,º saying,ºª 27 Behold,² I² [am] the LORD,º the Godº of all² flesh:º is there any² thingº too hardºª for² me? 28 Therefore² thus² saithºª the LORD;º Behold,² I will giveºª² this² cityº into the handº of the Chaldeans,º and into the handº of Nebuchadrezzarº kingº of Babylon,º and he shall takeºª it: 29 And the Chaldeans,º that fightºª against² this² city,º shall comeºª and setºª fireº on² this² city,º and burnºª it with the houses,º upon² whose² roofsº they have offered incenseºª unto Baal,º and poured outºª drink offeringsº unto otherº gods,º to² provoke me to anger.ºª 30 For² the childrenº of Israelº and the childrenº of Judahº have² only² doneºª evilº beforeº me from their youth:º² for² the childrenº of Israelº have only² provoked me to angerºª² with the workº of their hands,º saithºª the LORD.º 31 For²² this² cityº hath been² to me [as] a provocation² of mine angerº and of² my furyº from² the dayº that² they builtºª it even unto² this² day;º that I should removeºª it from before²² my face,º 32 Because² of all² the evilº of the childrenº of Israelº and of the childrenº of Judah,º which² they have doneºª to provoke me to anger,ºª they,² their kings,º their princes,º their priests,º and their prophets,º and the menº of Judah,º and the inhabitantsºª of Jerusalem.º 33 And they have turnedºª unto² me the back,º and not² the face:º though I taughtºª them, rising up earlyºª and teachingºª [them], yet they have not² hearkenedºª to receiveºª instruction.º 34 But they setºª their abominationsº in the house,º which² is calledºª by² my name,º to defileºª it. 35 And they builtºª² the high placesº of Baal,º which² [are] in the valleyº of the sonº of Hinnom,º to cause² their sonsº and their daughtersº to pass¹ª through² [the fire] unto Molech;º which² I commandedºª them not,² neither² cameºª it into² my mind,º that they should doºª this² abomination,º to² cause² Judahº to sin.ºª [27] Nu 16:22; 27:16; Ps 65:2; Is 64:8; Jr 32:17; Mt 19:26; Lk 3:6; Jn 17:2; Ro 3:29.
