4 ¶ Now these° are the words° which° the LORD° spoke° concerning° Israel° and concerning° Judah°:

5 ¶ “For thus° says° the LORD°,
  ‘II have heard° a sound° of aterror°,
  Of dread°, and there° is no° peace°.
  6 ‘Ask° now°, and see°
  If° a male° can give° birth°.
  Why° do I see° every° man°
  [With] his hands° on his loins°, aas a woman in childbirth°?
  And [why] have all° faces° turned° pale°?
  7 ‘Alas°! for that aday° is great°,
  There° is bnone° like° it;

8 ¶ ‘It shall come° about on that day°,’ declares° the LORD° of hosts°, ‘that I will abreak° his yoke° from off° Itheir neck° and will tear° off° Itheir bbonds°; and strangers° will no° longer° cmake° IIthem their slaves°. 9 But they shall serve° the LORD° their God° and aDavid° their king°, whom° I will raise° up for them.
  10aFear° not, O Jacob° My servant°,’ declares° the LORD°,
  ‘And do not be dismayed°, O Israel°;
  For behold°, I will save° you bfrom afar°
  And your Ioffspring° from the land° of their captivity°.
  And Jacob° will return° and will be cquiet° and at ease°,
  And dno° one° will make° him afraid°.
  11 ‘For aI am with you,’ declares° the LORD°, ‘to save° you;
  For I will bdestroy°° completely° all° the nations° where°° I have scattered° you,
  Only° I will cnot destroy°° you completely°.
  But I will dchasten° you justly°
  And will by no° means° leave° you unpunished°.’

  12 ¶ “For thus° says° the LORD°,
  ‘Your wound° is incurable°
  And your ainjury° is serious°.
  13 ‘There° is no° one° to plead° your cause°;
  [No] healing° for [your] sore°,
  aNo° recovery° for you.
  14 ‘All° your alovers° have forgotten° you,
  They do not seek° you;
  For I have bwounded° you with the wound° of an enemy°,
  With the cpunishment° of a dcruel° one°,
  Because° your einiquity° is great°
  [And] your fsins° are numerous°.
  15 ‘Why° do you cry° out over° your injury°?
  Your pain° is incurable°.
  Because° your iniquity° is great°
  [And] your sins° are numerous°,
  I have done° these° things° to you.
  16 ‘Therefore° all° who adevour° you will be devoured°;
  And all° your adversaries°, every° one° of them, bwill go° into captivity°;
  And those who plunder° you will be for plunder°,
  And all° who prey° upon you I will give° for prey°.
  17 ‘For I will Irestore° you to IIahealth°
  And I will heal° you of your wounds°,’ declares° the LORD°,

Restoration of Jacob

  18 ¶ “Thus° says° the LORD°,
  ‘Behold°, I will arestore° the Ifortunes° of the tents° of Jacob°
  And bhave° compassion° on his dwelling° places°;
  And the ccity° will be rebuilt° on its ruin°,
  And the dpalace° will stand° on its rightful° place°.
  19 ‘From them will proceed° athanksgiving°
  And the voice° of those who Ibcelebrate°;
  And I will cmultiply° them and they will not be diminished°;
  I will also dhonor° them and they will not be insignificant°.
  20ITheir children° also will be as formerly°,
  And IItheir congregation° shall be aestablished° before° Me;
  And I will punish° all° IItheir oppressors°.
  21ITheir aleader° shall be one of them,
  And Itheir ruler° shall come° forth° from Itheir midst°;
  And I will bbring° him near° and he shall approach° Me;
  For IIwho° would dare° to risk° his life° to capproach° Me?’ declares° the LORD°.

  The intent° of His heart°;

After their trouble they shall have deliverance.

4 ¶ And these² [are] the wordsº that² the LORDº spakeºª concerning² Israelº and concerning² Judah.º 5 For² thus² saithºª the LORD;º We have heardºª a voiceº of trembling,º of fear,º and not² of peace.º 6 Askºª ye now,² and seeºª whether² a manº doth travail with child?ºª wherefore² do I seeºª every² manº with his handsº on² his loins,º as a woman in travail,ºª and all² facesº are turnedºª into paleness?º 7 Alas!º for² that² dayº [is] great,º so that¹ none²² [is] like it:² it² [is] even the timeº of Jacob'sº trouble;º but he shall be savedºª out of² it. 8 For it shall come to pass² in that² day,º saithºª the LORDº of hosts,º [that] I will breakºª his yokeº from off²² thy neck,º and will burstºª thy bonds,º and strangersºª shall no² more² serveºª themselves of him: 9 But they shall serveºª² the LORDº their God,º and Davidº their king,º whom² I will raise upºª unto them.

He comforteth Jacob.

10 ¶ Therefore fearºª thou² not,² O my servantº Jacob,º saithºª the LORD;º neither² be dismayed,ºª O Israel:º for,² lo,² I will saveºª thee from afar,º² and thy seedº from the landº² of their captivity;º and Jacobº shall return,ºª and shall be in rest,ºª and be quiet,ºª and none² shall make [him] afraid.ºª 11 For² I² [am] with² thee, saithºª the LORD,º to saveºª thee: though² I makeºª a full endº of all² nationsº whither²² I have scatteredºª thee, yet² will I not² makeºª a full endº of thee: but I will correctºª thee in measure,º and will not² leave thee altogether¹ª unpunished.ºª 12 For² thus² saithºª the LORD,º Thy bruiseº [is] incurable,ºª [and] thy woundº [is] grievous.ºª 13 [There is] none² to pleadºª thy cause,º that thou mayest be bound up:º thou hast no² healingº medicines.º 14 All² thy loversºª have forgottenºª thee; they seekºª thee not;² for² I have woundedºª thee with the woundº of an enemy,ºª with the chastisementº of a cruel² one,¹ for² the multitudeº of thine iniquity;º [because] thy sinsº were increased.ºª 15 Why² criestºª thou for² thine affliction?º thy sorrowº [is] incurableºª for² the multitudeº of thine iniquity:º [because] thy sinsº were increased,ºª I have doneºª these² things unto thee. 16 Therefore² all² they that devourºª thee shall be devoured;ºª and all² thine adversaries,º every one² of them, shall go¹ª² into captivity;º and they that spoilºªª¹ thee shall be² a spoil,º and all² that preyºª upon thee will I giveºª for a prey.º 17 For² I will restoreºª healthº unto thee, and I will healºª thee of thy wounds,º² saithºª the LORD;º because² they calledºª thee an Outcast,ºª [saying], This² [is] Zion,º whom no² man seeketh² after.¹ª
