Portion of the Levites

1aThe Levitical° priests°, the whole° tribe° of Levi°, shall have° no° portion° or inheritance° with Israel°; they shall eat° the LORDS° offerings° by fire° and His Iportion°. 2 aThey shall have° no° inheritance° among° their Icountrymen°; the LORD° is their inheritance°, as He IIpromised° them.

3 ¶ “aNow this° shall be the priests’° due° from the people°, from those who offer° a sacrifice°, either° an ox° or° a sheep°, of which they shall give° to the priest° the shoulder° and the two° cheeks° and the stomach°. 4 You shall give° him the afirst° fruits° of your grain°, your new° wine°, and your oil°, and the first° shearing° of your sheep°. 5 aFor the LORD° your God° has chosen° him and his sons° from all° your tribes°, to bstand° Iand serve° in the name° of the LORD° forever°°.

9 ¶ “When° you enter° the land° which° the LORD° your God° gives° you, you shall not learn° to Iaimitate° the detestable° things° of those° nations°. 10 There shall not be found° among you anyone awho makes his son° or his daughter° pass° through the fire°, one who uses° divination°, one bwho practices° witchcraft°, or one who interprets° omens°, or a sorcerer°, 11 or one who casts° a spell°, aor a medium°°, or a spiritist°, or one who calls° up the dead°. 12 For whoever° does° these° things° is detestable° to the LORD°; and abecause° of these° detestable° things° the LORD° your God° will drive° them out before°° you. 13 aYou shall be Iblameless° before° the LORD° your God°. 14 For those° nations°, which° you shall dispossess°, listen° to those who apractice° witchcraft° and to diviners°, but as for you, the LORD° your God° has not allowed° you [to do] so°.

15 ¶ “aThe LORD° your God° will raise° up for you a prophet° like° me from among° you, from your Icountrymen°, you shall listen° to him. 16 This is aaccording to all° that you asked° of the LORD° your God° in Horeb° on the day° of the assembly°, saying°, ‘Let me not hear° again° the voice° of the LORD° my God°, let me not see° this° great° fire° anymore°, or° I will die°.’ 17 aThe LORD° said° to me, ‘They have Ispoken° well°. 18 I will raise° up a prophet° from among° their Icountrymen° like° you, and aI will put° My words° in his mouth°, and bhe shall speak° to them all° that I command° him. 19 aIt shall come° about that whoever°° will not listen° to My words° which° he shall speak° in My name°, I Myself° will require° [it] of him. 20 But the prophet° who° speaks° a word° apresumptuously° in My name° which° I have not commanded° him to speak°, or bwhich° he speaks° in the name° of other° gods°, Ithat prophet° shall die°.’ 21 IYou may say° in your heart°, ‘How° will we know° the word° which° the LORD° has not spoken°?’ 22 aWhen° a prophet° speaks° in the name° of the LORD°, if the thing° does not come° about or come° true, that is the thing° which° the LORD° has not spoken°. The prophet° has spoken° it bpresumptuously°; you shall not be afraid° of him.

The LORD is the priests' and Levites' inheritance.

The priest's due.

3 ¶ And this² shall be² the priest'sº dueº from²² the people,º from²² them that offerºª a sacrifice,º whether² [it be] oxº or² sheep;º and they shall giveºª unto the priestº the shoulder,º and the two cheeks,º and the maw.º 4 The firstfruitº [also] of thy corn,º of thy wine,º and of thine oil,º and the firstº of the fleeceº of thy sheep,º shalt thou giveºª him. 5 For² the LORDº thy Godº hath chosenºª him out of all²² thy tribes,º to standºª to ministerºª in the nameº of the LORD,º him² and his sonsº for ever.º²

6 ¶ And if² a Leviteº comeºª from anyº² of thy gatesº out of all²² Israel,º where²² he² sojourned,ºª and comeºª with all² the desireº of his mindº unto² the placeº which² the LORDº shall choose;ºª 7 Then he shall ministerºª in the nameº of the LORDº his God,º as all² his brethrenº the Levitesº [do], which standºª there² beforeº the LORD.º 8 They shall have like portionsº to eat,ºª beside² that which cometh of the saleº² of² his patrimony.º

9 ¶ When² thou² art comeºª into² the landº which² the LORDº thy Godº givethºª thee, thou shalt not² learnºª to doºª after the abominationsº of those² nations.º 10 There shall not² be foundºª among you [any one] that maketh his sonº or his daughterº to pass¹ª through² the fire,º [or] that usethºª divination,º [or] an observer of times,ºª or an enchanter,ºª or a witch,ºª 11 Or a charmer,ººª or a consulterºª with familiar spirits,º or a wizard,º or a necromancer.ººªª² 12 For² all² that doºª these things² [are] an abominationº unto the LORD:º and becauseº of these² abominationsº the LORDº thy Godº doth drive them outºª² from beforeº² thee. 13 Thou shalt be² perfectº with² the LORDº thy God.º 14 For² these² nations,º which² thou² shalt possess,ºª² hearkenedºª unto² observers of times,ºª and unto² diviners:ºª but as for thee,² the LORDº thy Godº hath not² sufferedºª thee so² [to do].

Christ the Prophet is to be heard.

15 ¶ The LORDº thy Godº will raise upºª unto thee a Prophetº from the midstº² of thee, of thy brethren,º² like unto me;² unto² him ye shall hearken;ºª 16 According to all² that² thou desiredstºª of²² the LORDº thy Godº in Horebº in the dayº of the assembly,º saying,ºª Let me not² hearºª againºª² the voiceº of the LORDº my God,º neither² let me seeºª this² greatº fireº any more,² that I dieºª not.² 17 And the LORDº saidºª unto² me, They have wellºª [spoken that] which² they have spoken.ºª 18 I will raise them upºª a Prophetº from amongº² their brethren,º like unto thee,² and will putºª my wordsº in his mouth;º and he shall speakºª unto² them² all² that² I shall commandºª him. 19 And it shall come to pass,² [that] whosoeverº² will not² hearkenºª unto² my wordsº which² he shall speakºª in my name,º I² will requireºª [it] of²² him.

The presumptuous prophet is to die.

20 But² the prophet,º which² shall presumeºª to speakºª a wordº in my name,º² which² I have not² commandedºª him to speak,ºª or that² shall speakºª in the nameº of otherº gods,º even that² prophetº shall die.ºª 21 And if² thou sayºª in thine heart,º How² shall we knowºª² the wordº which² the LORDº hath not² spoken?ºª 22 When² a prophetº speakethºª in the nameº of the LORD,º if the thingº follow² not,² nor² come to pass,ºª that² [is] the thingº which² the LORDº hath not² spoken,ºª [but] the prophetº hath spokenºª it presumptuously:º thou shalt not² be afraidºª of² him.
