Manasseh Succeeds Hezekiah

1 aManasseh° was twelve°° years° old° when he became° king°, and he reigned° fifty-five° years° in Jerusalem°; and his mother’s° name° was Hephzibah°. 2 aHe did° evil° in the sight° of the LORD°, baccording to the abominations° of the nations° whom° the LORD° dispossessed° before°° the sons° of Israel°. 3 For ahe rebuilt°° the high° places° which° Hezekiah° his father° had destroyed°; and bhe erected° altars° for Baal° and made° an IAsherah°, as Ahab° king° of Israel° had done°, and cworshiped° all° the host° of heaven° and served° them. 4 aHe built° altars° in the house° of the LORD°, of which° the LORD° had said°, “bIn Jerusalem° I will put° My name°.” 5 For he built° altars° for aall° the host° of heaven° in bthe two° courts° of the house° of the LORD°. 6 aHe made his son° pass° through the fire°, bpracticed° witchcraft° and used° divination°, and dealt° with mediums° and spiritists°. He did° much° evil° in the sight° of the LORD° provoking° [Him to anger]. 7 Then ahe set° the carved° image° of Asherah° that he had made°, in the house° of which° the LORD° said° to David° and to his son° Solomon°, “bIn this° house° and in Jerusalem°, which° I have chosen° from all° the tribes° of Israel°, I will put° My name° forever°. 8 And I awill not make the feet° of Israel° wander° anymore° from the land° which° I gave° their fathers°, if° only° they will observe° to do° according to all° that I have commanded° them, and according to all° the law° that My servant° Moses° commanded° them.” 9 But they did not listen°, and Manasseh° aseduced° them to do° evil° more° than° the nations° whom° the LORD° destroyed° before°° the sons° of Israel°.

The King’s Idolatries Rebuked

10 ¶ Now the LORD° spoke° through° His servants° the prophets°, saying°, 11aBecause°° Manasseh° king° of Judah° has done° these° abominations°, bhaving done° wickedly° more° than° all° the Amorites° did° who° [were] before° him, and chas also° made Judah° sin° dwith his idols°; 12 therefore° thus° says° the LORD°, the God° of Israel°, ‘Behold°, I am bringing° [such] calamity° on Jerusalem° and Judah°, that whoever° hears° of it, aboth° his ears° will tingle°. 13 aI will stretch° over° Jerusalem° the line° of Samaria° and the plummet° of the house° of Ahab°, and I will wipe° Jerusalem° as one wipes° a dish°, wiping° it and turning° it upside°° down°. 14 I will abandon° the remnant° of My inheritance° and deliver° them into the hand° of their enemies°, and they will become° as plunder° and spoil° to all° their enemies°; 15 because°° they have done° evil° in My sight°, and have been° provoking° Me to anger° since° the day° their fathers° came° from Egypt°, even to this° day°.’”

16aMoreover°, Manasseh° shed° very° much° innocent° blood° until°° he had filled° Jerusalem° from one° end° to another°; besides°° his sin° bwith which° he made Judah° sin°, in doing° evil° in the sight° of the LORD°. 17 aNow the rest° of the acts° of Manasseh° and all° that he did° and his sin° which° he Icommitted°, are they not written° in the Book° of the Chronicles°° of the Kings° of Judah°? 18 aAnd Manasseh° slept° with his fathers° and was buried° in the garden° of his own house°, bin the garden° of Uzza°, and Amon° his son° became° king° in his place°.

Amon Succeeds Manasseh

19aAmon° was twenty-two°° years° old° when he became° king°, and he reigned° two° years° in Jerusalem°; and his mother’s° name° [was] Meshullemeth° the daughter° of Haruz° of Jotbah°. 20 He did° evil° in the sight° of the LORD°, aas Manasseh° his father° had done°. 21 For he walked° in all° the way° that his father° had walked°, and served° the idols° that his father° had served° and worshiped° them. 22 So ahe forsook° the LORD°, the God° of his fathers°, and did not walk° in the way° of the LORD°. 23 aThe servants° of Amon° conspired° against° him and killed° the king° in his own house°. 24 Then athe people° of the land° Ikilled° all° those who had conspired° against° King° Amon°, and the people° of the land° made° Josiah° his son° king° in his place°. 25 Now the rest° of the acts° of Amon° which° he did°, are they not written° in the Book° of the Chronicles°° of the Kings° of Judah°? 26 He was buried° in his grave° ain the garden° of Uzza°, and Josiah° his son° became° king° in his place°.

Manasseh's reign.

3 For he built upºª againºª² the high placesº which² Hezekiahº his fatherº had destroyed;ºª and he reared upºª altarsº for Baal,º and madeºª a grove,º as² didºª Ahabº kingº of Israel;º and worshippedºª all² the hostº of heaven,º and servedºª them. 4 And he builtºª altarsº in the houseº of the LORD,º of which² the LORDº said,ºª In Jerusalemº will I putºª² my name.º 5 And he builtºª altarsº for all² the hostº of heavenº in the twoº courtsº of the houseº of the LORD.º 6 And he made² his sonº pass¹ª through² the fire,º and observed times,ºª and used enchantments,ºª and dealtºª with familiar spiritsº and wizards:º he wroughtºª muchºª wickednessº in the sightº of the LORD,º to provoke [him] to anger.ºª 7 And he setºª² a graven imageº of the groveº that² he had madeºª in the house,º of which² the LORDº saidºª to² David,º and to² Solomonº his son,º In this² house,º and in Jerusalem,º which² I have chosenºª out of all²² tribesº of Israel,º will I putºª² my nameº for ever:º 8 Neither² will I make the feetº of Israelº moveºª any moreºª out of² the landº which² I gaveºª their fathers;º only² if² they will observeºª to doºª according to all² that² I have commandedºª them, and according to all² the lawº that² my servantº Mosesº commandedºª them. 9 But they hearkenedºª not:² and Manassehº seducedºª them to doºª² more evilº than² did the nationsº whom² the LORDº destroyedºª beforeº² the childrenº of Israel.º

His wickedness causeth prophecies against Judah.

10 ¶ And the LORDº spakeºª byº his servantsº the prophets,º saying,ºª 11 Because²² Manassehº kingº of Judahº hath doneºª these² abominations,º [and] hath done wickedlyºª above all²² that² the Amoritesº did,ºª which² [were] beforeº him, and hath made² Judahº also² to sinºª with his idols:º 12 Therefore² thus² saithºª the LORDº Godº of Israel,º Behold,² I [am] bringingºª [such] evilº upon² Jerusalemº and Judah,º that² whosoever² hearethºª of it, bothº his earsº shall tingle.ºª 13 And I will stretchºª over² Jerusalemº² the lineº of Samaria,º and the plummetº of the houseº of Ahab:º and I will wipeºª² Jerusalemº as² [a man] wipethºª² a dish,º wipingºª [it], and turningºª [it] upside down.º² 14 And I will forsakeºª² the remnantº of mine inheritance,º and deliverºª them into the handº of their enemies;ºª and they shall become² a preyº and a spoilº to all² their enemies;ºª 15 Because²² they have doneºª [that which was]² evilº in my sight,º and have² provoked¹ me to anger,ºª² since² the dayº their fathersº came forthºª out of Egypt,º² even unto² this² day.º 16 Moreover² Manassehº shedºª innocentº bloodº veryº much,ºª till²² he had filledºª² Jerusalemº from one endº to another;º beside his sinº²² wherewith² he made Judah¹ to sin,ºª²² in doingºª [that which was] evilº in the sightº of the LORD.º

Amon succeedeth him.

17 ¶ Now the restº of the actsº of Manasseh,º and all² that² he did,ºª and his sinº that² he sinned,ºª [are] they² not² writtenºª in² the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Judah?º 18 And Manassehº sleptºª with² his fathers,º and was buriedºª in the gardenº of his own house,º in the gardenº of Uzza:º and Amonº his sonº reignedºª in his stead.²
