Azariah his good reign.

1 ¶ In the twentyº¹ and seventhº yearº of Jeroboamº kingº of Israelº began Azariahº sonº of Amaziahº kingº of Judahº to reign.ºª 2 Sixteenº¹² yearsº oldº was² he when he began to reign,ºª and he reignedºª twoº and fiftyº yearsº in Jerusalem.º And his mother'sº nameº [was] Jecholiahº of Jerusalem.º² 3 And he didºª [that which was] rightº in the sightº of the LORD,º according to all² that² his fatherº Amaziahº had done;ºª 4 Save² that the high placesº were not² removed:ºª the peopleº sacrificedºª and burnt incenseºª still² on the high places.º

He dying a leper, Jotham succeedeth.

5 ¶ And the LORDº smoteºª² the king,º so that he was² a leperºª unto² the dayº of his death,º and dweltºª in a severalº house.º And Jothamº the king'sº sonº [was] over² the house,º judgingºª² the peopleº of the land.º 6 And the restº of the actsº of Azariah,º and all² that² he did,ºª [are] they² not² writtenºª in² the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Judah?º 7 So Azariahº sleptºª with² his fathers;º and they buriedºª him with² his fathersº in the cityº of David:º and Jothamº his sonº reignedºª in his stead.²

Zachariah, the last of Jehu's generation, reigning ill, is slain by Shallum.

8 ¶ In the thirtyº¹ and eighthº yearº of Azariahº kingº of Judahº did Zachariahº the sonº of Jeroboamº reignºª over² Israelº in Samariaº sixº months.º 9 And he didºª [that which was] evilº in the sightº of the LORD,º as² his fathersº had done:ºª he departedºª not² from the sinsº² of Jeroboamº the sonº of Nebat,º who² made² Israelº to sin.ºª 10 And Shallumº the sonº of Jabeshº conspiredºª against² him, and smoteºª him beforeº the people,º and slewºª him, and reignedºª in his stead.² 11 And the restº of the actsº of Zachariah,º behold,² they [are] writtenºª in² the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Israel.º 12 This² [was] the wordº of the LORDº which² he spakeºª unto² Jehu,º saying,ºª Thy sonsº shall sitºª on² the throneº of Israelº unto the fourthº [generation]. And so² it came to pass.²

Shallum, reigning a month, is slain by Menahem.

13 ¶ Shallumº the sonº of Jabeshº began to reignºª in the nineº and thirtiethº yearº of Uzziahº kingº of Judah;º and he reignedºª a fullº monthº in Samaria.º 14 For Menahemº the sonº of Gadiº went upºª from Tirzah,º² and cameºª to Samaria,º and smoteºª² Shallumº the sonº of Jabeshº in Samaria,º and slewºª him, and reignedºª in his stead.² 15 And the restº of the actsº of Shallum,º and his conspiracyº which² he made,ºª behold,² they [are] writtenºª in² the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Israel.º

Menahem strengtheneth himself by Pul.

16 ¶ Then² Menahemº smoteºª² Tiphsah,º and all² that² [were] therein, and the coastsº thereof from Tirzah:º² because² they openedºª not² [to him], therefore he smoteºª [it; and]² all² the women therein that were with childº he ripped up.ºª 17 In the nineº¹ and thirtiethº yearº of Azariahº kingº of Judahº began Menahemº the sonº of Gadiº to reignºª over² Israel,º [and reigned] tenº yearsº in Samaria.º 18 And he didºª [that which was] evilº in the sightº of the LORD:º he departedºª not² all² his daysº from²² the sinsº of Jeroboamº the sonº of Nebat,º who² made² Israelº to sin.ºª 19 [And] Pulº the kingº of Assyriaº cameºª against² the land:º and Menahemº gaveºª Pulº a thousandº talentsº of silver,º that his handº might be² with² him to confirmºª the kingdomº in his hand.º 20 And Menahemº exactedºª² the moneyº of² Israel,º [even] of² all² the mighty menº of wealth,º of eachº manº fiftyº shekelsº of silver,º to giveºª to the kingº of Assyria.º So the kingº of Assyriaº turned back,ºª and stayedºª not² there² in the land.º

Pekahiah succeedeth him.

21 ¶ And the restº of the actsº of Menahem,º and all² that² he did,ºª [are] they² not² writtenºª in² the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Israel?º 22 And Menahemº sleptºª with² his fathers;º and Pekahiahº his sonº reignedºª in his stead.²

Pekahiah is slain by Pekah.

23 ¶ In the fiftiethº¹ yearº of Azariahº kingº of Judahº Pekahiahº the sonº of Menahemº began to reignºª over² Israelº in Samaria,º [and reigned] two years.º 24 And he didºª [that which was] evilº in the sightº of the LORD:º he departedºª not² from the sinsº² of Jeroboamº the sonº of Nebat,º who² made² Israelº to sin.ºª 25 But Pekahº the sonº of Remaliah,º a captainº of his, conspiredºª against² him, and smoteºª him in Samaria,º in the palaceº of the king'sº house,º with² Argobº and² Arieh,º and with² him fiftyº menº of the Gileadites:ºº² and he killedºª him, and reignedºª in his room.² 26 And the restº of the actsº of Pekahiah,º and all² that² he did,ºª behold,² they [are] writtenºª in² the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Israel.º

Pekah is oppressed by Tiglath-pileser, and slain by Hoshea.

27 ¶ In the twoº¹ and fiftiethº yearº of Azariahº kingº of Judahº Pekahº the sonº of Remaliahº began to reignºª over² Israelº in Samaria,º [and reigned] twentyº years.º 28 And he didºª [that which was] evilº in the sightº of the LORD:º he departedºª not² from² the sinsº of Jeroboamº the sonº of Nebat,º who² made² Israelº to sin.ºª 29 In the daysº of Pekahº kingº of Israelº cameºª Tiglathpileserº kingº of Assyria,º and tookºª² Ijon,º and Abelbethmaachah,º and Janoah,º and Kedesh,º and Hazor,º and Gilead,º and Galilee,º all² the landº of Naphtali,º and carried them captiveºª to Assyria.º 30 And Hosheaº the sonº of Elahº madeºª a conspiracyº against² Pekahº the sonº of Remaliah,º and smoteºª him, and slewºª him, and reignedºª in his stead,² in the twentiethº yearº of Jothamº the sonº of Uzziah.º 31 And the restº of the actsº of Pekah,º and all² that² he did,ºª behold,² they [are] writtenºª in² the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Israel.º

Jotham's good reign.

32 ¶ In the secondº yearº of Pekahº the sonº of Remaliahº kingº of Israelº began Jothamº the sonº of Uzziahº kingº of Judahº to reign.ºª 33 Fiveº and twentyº yearsº oldº was² he when he began to reign,ºª and he reignedºª sixteenºº yearsº in Jerusalem.º And his mother'sº nameº [was] Jerusha,º the daughterº of Zadok.º 34 And he didºª [that which was] rightº in the sightº of the LORD:º he didºª according to all² that² his fatherº Uzziahº had done.ºª

35 ¶ Howbeit² the high placesº were not² removed:ºª the peopleº sacrificedºª and burned incenseºª still² in the high places.º He² builtºª² the higherº gateº of the houseº of the LORD.º

Ahaz succeedeth him.

36 ¶ Now the restº of the actsº of Jotham,º and all that² he did,ºª [are] they² not² writtenºª in² the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Judah?º 37 In those² daysº the LORDº beganºª to sendºª against Judahº Rezinº the kingº of Syria,º and Pekahº the sonº of Remaliah.º 38 And Jothamº sleptºª with² his fathers,º and was buriedºª with² his fathersº in the cityº of Davidº his father:º and Ahazº his sonº reignedºª in his stead.²
