Asa, by the aid of the Syrians, diverteth Baasha from building of Ramah.

1 ¶ In the sixº and thirtiethº yearº of the reignº of Asaº Baashaº kingº of Israelº came upºª against² Judah,º and builtºª² Ramah,º to the intent that¹ he might letºª none² go outºª or come inºª to Asaº kingº of Judah.º 2 Then Asaº brought outºª silverº and goldº out of the treasuresº² of the houseº of the LORDº and of the king'sº house,º and sentºª to² Benhadadº kingº of Syria,º that dweltºª at Damascus,º saying,ºª 3 [There is] a leagueº between² me and thee, as [there was] between² my fatherº and thy father:º behold,² I have sentºª thee silverº and gold;º go,¹ª² breakºª thy leagueº with² Baashaº kingº of Israel,º that he may departºª from²² me. 4 And Benhadadº hearkenedºª unto² kingº Asa,º and sentºª² the captainsº of his² armiesº against² the citiesº of Israel;º and they smoteºª² Ijon,º and Dan,º and Abelmaim,º and all² the storeº citiesº of Naphtali.º 5 And it came to pass,² when Baashaº heardºª [it], that he left offºª buildingºª²² of Ramah,º and let² his workº cease.ºª 6 Then Asaº the kingº tookºª² all² Judah;º and they carried awayºª² the stonesº of Ramah,º and the timberº thereof, wherewith² Baashaº was building;ºª and he builtºª therewith² Gebaº and Mizpah.º

Being reproved thereof by Hanani, he putteth him in prison.

7 ¶ And at that² timeº Hananiº the seer¹ª² cameºª to² Asaº kingº of Judah,º and saidºª unto² him, Because thou hast reliedºª on² the kingº of Syria,º and not² reliedºª on² the LORDº thy God,º therefore²² is the hostº of the kingº of Syriaº escapedºª out of thine hand.º² 8 Were² not² the Ethiopiansº and the Lubimsº a hugeº host,º with veryº manyºª chariotsº and horsemen?º yet, because thou didst relyºª on² the LORD,º he deliveredºª them into thine hand.º 9 For² the eyesº of the LORDº run to and froºª throughout the whole² earth,º to shew himself strongºª in the behalf of² [them] whose heartº [is] perfectº toward² him. Herein²² thou hast done foolishly:ºª therefore² from henceforthº² thou shalt haveº wars.º 10 Then Asaº was wrothºª with² the seer,¹ª² and putºª him in a prisonº house;º for² [he was] in a rageº with² him because of² this² [thing]. And Asaº oppressedºª [some] of² the peopleº the same² time.º

Among his other acts in his disease he seeketh not God, but to the physicians.

11 ¶ And, behold,² the actsº of Asa,º firstº and last,º lo,² they [are] writtenºª in² the bookº of the kingsº of Judahº and Israel.º 12 And Asaº in the thirtyº and ninthº yearº of his reignº was diseasedºª in his feet,º until² his diseaseº [was] exceedingº [great]: yet² in his diseaseº he soughtºª not²² to the LORD,º but² to the physicians.ºª

His death and burial.

13 ¶ And Asaº sleptºª with² his fathers,º and diedºª in the oneº and fortiethº yearº of his reign.ºª 14 And they buriedºª him in his own sepulchres,º which² he had madeºª for himself in the cityº of David,º and laidºª him in the bedº which² was filledºª with sweet odoursº and divers kindsº [of spices] prepared¹ª by the apothecaries'¹ art:º²² and they madeºª a veryº² greatº burningº for him.
