Jehoshaphat, joined in affinity with Ahab, is persuaded to go with him against Ramoth-gilead.

1 ¶ Now Jehoshaphatº had² richesº and honourº in abundance,º and joined affinityºª with Ahab.º 2 And afterº [certain] yearsº he went downºª to² Ahabº to Samaria.º And Ahabº killedºª sheepº and oxenº for him in abundance,º and for the peopleº that² [he had] with² him, and persuadedºª him to go upºª [with him] to² Ramothgilead.º¹ 3 And Ahabº kingº of Israelº saidºª unto² Jehoshaphatº kingº of Judah,º Wilt thou go¹ª² with² me to Ramothgilead?º¹ And he answeredºª him, I² [am] as thou² [art], and my peopleº as thy people;º and [we will be] with² thee in the war.º

Ahab, seduced by flase prophets, according to the word of Micaiah, is slain there.

4 ¶ And Jehoshaphatº saidºª unto² the kingº of Israel,º Enquire,ºª I pray thee,² at² the wordº of the LORDº to day.º 5 Therefore the kingº of Israelº gathered togetherºª² of prophetsº fourº hundredº men,º and saidºª unto² them, Shall we go¹ª² to² Ramothgileadº¹ to battle,º or² shall I forbear?ºª And they said,ºª Go up;ºª for Godº will deliverºª [it] into the king'sº hand.º 6 But Jehoshaphatº said,ºª [Is there] not² here² a prophetº of the LORDº besides,² that we might enquireºª of him?²² 7 And the kingº of Israelº saidºª unto² Jehoshaphat,º [There is] yet² oneº man,º by whom²² we may enquireºª of² the LORD:º but I² hateºª him; for² he never² prophesiedºª goodº unto² me, but² alwaysº² evil:º the same² [is] Micaiahº the sonº of Imla.º And Jehoshaphatº said,ºª Let not² the kingº sayºª so.² 8 And the kingº of Israelº calledºª for² oneº [of his] officers,º and said,ºª Fetch quicklyºª Micaiahº the sonº of Imla.º 9 And the kingº of Israelº and Jehoshaphatº kingº of Judahº satºª eitherº of them on² his throne,º clothedºª in [their] robes,º and they satºª in a void placeº at the entering inº of the gateº of Samaria;º and all² the prophetsº prophesiedºª beforeº them. 10 And Zedekiahº the sonº of Chenaanahº had madeºª him hornsº of iron,º and said,ºª Thus² saithºª the LORD,º With these² thou shalt pushºª² Syriaº until² they be consumed.ºª 11 And all² the prophetsº prophesiedºª so,² saying,ºª Go upºª to Ramothgilead,º¹ and prosper:ºª for the LORDº shall deliverºª [it] into the handº of the king.º 12 And the messengerº that² wentºª to callºª Micaiahº spakeºª to² him, saying,ºª Behold,² the wordsº of the prophetsº [declare] goodº to² the kingº with oneº assent;º let thy wordº therefore, I pray thee,² be² like oneº of² theirs, and speakºª thou good.º 13 And Micaiahº said,ºª [As] the LORDº liveth,º even²² what² my Godº saith,ºª that will I speak.ºª 14 And when he was comeºª to² the king,º the kingº saidºª unto² him, Micaiah,º shall we go¹ª² to² Ramothgileadº¹ to battle,º or² shall I forbear?ºª And he said,ºª Go ye up,ºª and prosper,ºª and they shall be deliveredºª into your hand.º 15 And the kingº saidºª to² him, How many²² timesº shall I² adjureºª thee that² thou sayºª nothing² but² the truthº to² me in the nameº of the LORD?º 16 Then he said,ºª I did seeºª² all² Israelº scatteredºª upon² the mountains,º as sheepº that² have no² shepherd:ºª and the LORDº said,ºª These² have no² master;º let them returnºª [therefore] every manº to his houseº in peace.º 17 And the kingº of Israelº saidºª to² Jehoshaphat,º Did I not² tellºª² thee [that] he would not² prophesyºª goodº unto² me, but²² evil?º 18 Again he said,ºª Therefore² hearºª the wordº of the LORD;º I sawºª² the LORDº sittingºª upon² his throne,º and all² the hostº of heavenº standingºª on² his right handº and [on] his left.º 19 And the LORDº said,ºª Who² shall enticeºª² Ahabº kingº of Israel,º that he may go upºª and fallºª at Ramothgilead?º¹ And one² spakeºª sayingºª after this manner,º and another² sayingºª after that manner.º 20 Then there came outºª a spirit,º and stoodºª beforeº the LORD,º and said,ºª I² will enticeºª him. And the LORDº saidºª unto² him, Wherewith?² 21 And he said,ºª I will go out,ºª and be² a lyingº spiritº in the mouthº of all² his prophets.º And [the LORD] said,ºª Thou shalt enticeºª [him], and thou shalt also² prevail:ºª go out,ºª and doºª [even] so.² 22 Now² therefore, behold,² the LORDº hath putºª a lyingº spiritº in the mouthº of these² thy prophets,º and the LORDº hath spokenºª evilº against² thee. 23 Then Zedekiahº the sonº of Chenaanahº came near,ºª and smoteºª² Micaiahº upon² the cheek,º and said,ºª Whichº² wayº wentºª the Spiritº of the LORDº from²² me to speakºª unto² thee? 24 And Micaiahº said,ºª Behold,² thou shalt seeºª on that² dayº when² thou shalt goºª into an inner¹ chamberº to hide¹ª thyself.² 25 Then the kingº of Israelº said,ºª Takeºª ye² Micaiah,º and carry him backºª to² Amonº the governorº of the city,º and to² Joashº the king'sº son;º 26 And say,ºª Thus² saithºª the king,º Putºª this² [fellow] in the prison,ºº and feedºª him with breadº of afflictionº and with waterº of affliction,º until² I returnºª in peace.º 27 And Micaiahº said,ºª If² thou certainly¹ª returnºª in peace,º [then] hath not² the LORDº spokenºª by me. And he said,ºª Hearken,ºª all² ye people.º 28 So the kingº of Israelº and Jehoshaphatº the kingº of Judahº went upºª to² Ramothgilead.º¹ 29 And the kingº of Israelº saidºª unto² Jehoshaphat,º I will disguise¹ª myself,² and will goºª to the battle;º but put¹ª thou on²² thy robes.º So the kingº of Israelº disguised¹ª himself;² and they wentºª to the battle.º 30 Now the kingº of Syriaº had commandedºª² the captainsº of the chariotsº that² [were] with him, saying,ºª Fightºª ye not² with² smallº or² great,º save²² only² with² the kingº of Israel.º 31 And it came to pass,² when the captainsº of the chariotsº sawºª² Jehoshaphat,º that they² said,ºª It² [is] the kingº of Israel.º Therefore they compassed² about¹ª² him to fight:ºª but Jehoshaphatº cried out,ºª and the LORDº helpedºª him; and Godº movedºª them [to depart] from² him. 32 For it came to pass,² that, when the captainsº of the chariotsº perceivedºª that² it was² not² the kingº of Israel,º they turned back againºª from pursuingº² him. 33 And a [certain] man² drewºª a bowº at a venture,º and smoteºª² the kingº of Israelº between² the jointsº of the harness:º therefore he saidºª to his chariot¹ man,¹² Turnºª thine hand,º that thou mayest carry me outºª of² the host;º for² I am wounded.ºª 34 And the battleº increasedºª that² day:º howbeit the kingº of Israelº stayed [himself] upºª² in [his] chariotº againstº the Syriansº until² the even:º and about the timeº of the sunº going downºª he died.ºª
