[1] aPv 1:1

  2 ¶ It is the glory° of God° to aconceal° a matter°,
  But the glory° of bkings° is to search° out a matter°.
  3 [As] the heavens° for height° and the earth° for depth°,
  So the heart° of kings° is unsearchable°°.
  4 Take° away° the adross° from the silver°,
  And there comes° out a vessel° for the bsmith°;
  5 Take° away° the awicked° before° the king°,
  And his bthrone° will be established° in righteousness°.
  6 Do not claim° honor° in the presence° of the king°,
  And do not stand° in the place° of great° men°;
  7 For ait is better° that it be said° to you, “Come° up here°,”
  Than° for you to be placed° lower° in the presence° of the prince°,
  Whom° your eyes° have seen°.

  8 ¶ Do not go° out ahastily° to Iargue° [your case];
  IIOtherwise°, what° will you do° in IIIthe end°,
  When your neighbor° humiliates° you?
  9 IaArgue° your case° with your neighbor°,
  And bdo not reveal° the secret° of another°,
  10 Or° he who hears° [it] will reproach° you,
  And the evil° report° about you will not Ipass° away°.

  11 ¶ [Like] apples° of gold° in settings° of silver°
  Is a aword° spoken° in Iright circumstances°.
  12 [Like] Ian aearring° of gold° and an bornament° of cfine° gold°
  Is a wise° reprover° to a dlistening° ear°.
  13 Like the cold° of snow° in the Itime° of harvest°
  Is a afaithful° messenger° to those who send° him,
  For he refreshes° the soul° of his masters°.
  14 [Like] aclouds° and bwind° without° rain°
  Is a man° who boasts° Iof his gifts° falsely°.
  15 By Iaforbearance°° a ruler° may be persuaded°,

  16 Have you afound° honey°? Eat° [only] Iwhat° you need°,

  17 Let your foot° rarely° be in your neighbor’s° house°,
  Or° he will become° Iweary° of you and hate° you.
  18 [Like] a club° and a asword° and a sharp° barrow°
  Is a man° who bears° cfalse° witness° against his neighbor°.
  19 [Like] a bad° tooth° and Ian unsteady° foot°
  Is confidence° in a afaithless° man in time° of trouble°.
  20 [Like] one who takes° off° a garment° on a cold° day°, [or like] vinegar° on Isoda°,
  Is he who sings° songs° to IIa troubled° heart°.
  21 aIf° Iyour enemy° is hungry°, give° him food° to eat°;
  And if° he is thirsty°, give° him water° to drink°;
  22 For you will Iheap° burning coals° on his head°,
  And athe LORD° will reward° you.
  23 The north° wind° brings° forth° rain°,
  And a Iabackbiting° tongue°, an angry° countenance°.
  24 It is abetter° to live° in a corner° of the roof°

  25 [Like] cold° water° to a weary° soul°,
  So is agood° news° from a distant° land°.
  26 [Like] a atrampled° spring° and a Ipolluted° well°
  Is a righteous° man° who gives° way° before° the wicked°.
  27 It is not good° to eat° much° honey°,
  Nor° is it glory° to asearch° out Ione’s own glory°.

and about avoiding of quarrels, and sundry causes thereof.

8 Go not forthºª² hastilyº to strive,ºª lest² [thou know not] what² to doºª in the endº thereof, when thy neighbourº hath put thee to shame.ºª² 9 Debateºª thy causeº with² thy neighbourº [himself]; and discoverºª not² a secretº to another:º 10 Lest² he that hearethºª [it] put thee to shame,ºª and thine infamyº turn not away.ºª² 11 A wordº fitlyº¹ª² spokenºª [is like] applesº of goldº in picturesº of silver.º 12 [As] an earringº of gold,º and an ornamentº of fine gold,º [so is] a wiseº reproverºª upon² an obedientºª ear.º 13 As the coldº of snowº in the timeº of harvest,º [so is] a faithfulºª messengerº to them that sendºª him: for he refreshethºª the soulº of his masters.º 14 Whosoº boasteth¹ª himself² of a falseº giftº [is like] cloudsº and windº without² rain.º 15 By longº forbearingº is a princeº persuaded,ºª and a softº tongueº breakethºª the bone.º 16 Hast thou foundºª honey?º eatºª so much as is sufficientº for thee, lest² thou be filledºª therewith, and vomitºª it. 17 Withdrawºª thy footº from thy neighbour'sº house;º² lest² he be wearyºª of thee, and [so] hateºª thee. 18 A manº that bearethºª falseº witnessº against his neighbourº [is] a maul,º and a sword,º and a sharpºª arrow.º 19 Confidenceº in an unfaithful manºª in timeº of troubleº [is like] a brokenº tooth,º and a footº out of joint.º 20 [As] he that taketh awayºª a garmentº in coldº weather,º [and as] vinegarº upon² nitre,º so [is] he that singethºª songsº to² an heavyº heart.º 21 If² thine enemyºª be hungry,º give him breadº to eat;ºª and if² he be thirsty,º give him waterº to drink:ºª 22 For² thou² shalt heapºª coals of fireº upon² his head,º and the LORDº shall rewardºª thee. 23 The northº windº driveth awayºª rain:º so [doth] an angryºª countenanceº a backbitingº tongue.º 24 [It is] betterº to dwellºª in² the cornerº of the housetop,º than with a brawling¹ª¹ womanº²² and in a wideº house.º 25 [As] coldº watersº to² a thirstyº soul,º so [is] goodº newsº from a far¹ country.º²² 26 A righteousº man falling downºª beforeº the wickedº [is as] a troubledºª fountain,º and a corruptºª spring.º 27 [It is] not² goodº to eatºª muchºª honey:º so [for men] to searchº their own gloryº [is not] glory.º 28 Heº that² [hath] no² rule¹ over² his own spiritº [is like] a cityº [that is] broken down,ºª [and] without² walls.º
