2 Chronicles 28:20-
21 And Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and
distressed him, but strengthened him not. ... For Ahaz
took away a portion [

it] unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.
Job 6:14-
20 To him that
is afflicted pity [
should be shewed] from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty. ... They were
confounded because they had hoped; they came thither, and were ashamed.
Isaiah 30:1-
3 Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD,
that take counsel, but not of me; and that
cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may
add sin to sin: ... Therefore shall
the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt
[your] confusion.
Isaiah 36:6 Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so [
is] Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.
Ezekiel 29:6-
7 And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall
know that I [
am] the LORD, because they have been
a staff of reed to the house of Israel. ... When
they took hold of thee by thy hand,
thou didst break, and rend all their shoulder: and when they leaned upon thee, thou brakest, and madest all their loins to be at a stand.
2 Timothy 4:16 At my first
