Zophar reproveth Job for justifying himself.

1 ¶ Then answeredºª Zopharº the Naamathite,º and said,ºª 2 Should not² the multitudeº of wordsº be answered?ºª and should² a manº full of talkº be justified?ºª 3 Should thy liesº make¹ª menº hold their peace?ºª and when thou mockest,ºª shall no² man make thee ashamed?ºª 4 For thou hast said,ºª My doctrineº [is] pure,º and I am² cleanº in thine eyes.º 5 Butº oh that¹ª² Godº would² speak,ºª and openºª his lipsº against² thee;

God's wisdom is unsearchable.

6 And that he would shewºª thee the secretsº of wisdom,º that² [they are] doubleº to that which is!º Knowºª therefore that² Godº exactethºª of thee [less] than thine iniquityº² [deserveth]. 7 Canst thou by searchingº find outºª God?º canst thou find¹ª out² the Almightyº unto² perfection?º 8 [It is] as highº as heaven;º what² canst thou do?ºª deeperº than hell;º² what² canst thou know?ºª 9 The measureº thereof [is] longerº than the earth,º² and broaderº than² the sea.º 10 If² he cut off,ºª and shut up,ºª or gather together,ºª then who² can hinderºª him? 11 For² he² knowethºª vainº men:º he seethºª wickednessº also; will he not² then considerºª [it]? 12 For vainºª manº would be wise,ºª though manº be bornºª [like] a wild ass'sº colt.º

The assured blessing of repentance.

13 If² thou² prepareºª thine heart,º and stretch¹ª out² thine handsº toward² him; 14 If² iniquityº [be] in thine hand,º put it far away,ºª and let not² wickednessº dwellºª in thy tabernacles.º 15 For² then² shalt thou lift upºª thy faceº without spot;º² yea, thou shalt be² stedfast,ºª and shalt not² fear:ºª 16 Because² thou² shalt forgetºª [thy] misery,º [and] rememberºª [it] as watersº [that] pass away:ºª 17 And [thine] ageº shall be clearerºª than the noonday;º² thou shalt shine forth,ºª thou shalt be² as the morning.º 18 And thou shalt be secure,ºª because² there² is¹ hope;º yea, thou shalt digºª [about thee, and] thou shalt take thy restºª in safety.º 19 Also thou shalt lie down,ºª and none² shall make [thee] afraid;ºª yea, manyº shall make suitºª unto² thee.¹ 20 But the eyesº of the wickedº shall fail,ºª and they shall not escape,ººª² and their hopeº [shall be as] the giving upº of the ghost.º
