The Unrighteous Steward

1 Now° He was also° saying° to the disciples°, “There was a rich° man° who° had° a manager°, and this° [manager] was Ireported° to him as asquandering° his possessions°. 2 And he called° him and said° to him, ‘What° is this° I hear° about° you? Give° an accounting° of your management°, for you can° no° longer° be manager°.’ 3 The manager° said° to himself°, ‘What° shall I do°, since° my Imaster° is taking° the management° away° from me? I am° not strong° enough° to dig°; I am ashamed° to beg°. 4 I know° what° I shall do°, so° that when° I am removed° from the management° people will welcome° me into their homes°.’ 5 And he summoned° each° one° of his Imaster’s° debtors°, and he [began] saying° to the first°, ‘How° much° do you owe° my master°?’ 6 And he said°, ‘A hundred° Imeasures° of oil°.’ And he said° to him, ‘Take° your bill°, and sit° down° quickly° and write° fifty°.’ 7 Then° he said° to another°, ‘And how° much° do you owe°?’ And he said°, ‘A hundred° Imeasures° of wheat°.’ He *said° to him, ‘Take° your bill°, and write° eighty°.’ 8 And his Imaster° praised° the unrighteous° manager° because° he had acted° shrewdly°; for the sons° of athis° age° are more° shrewd° in relation° to their own° IIkind° than° the bsons° of light°. 9 And I say° to you, amake° friends° for yourselves° by means° of the Ibwealth° of unrighteousness°, so° that when° it fails°, cthey will receive° you into the eternal° dwellings°.

The parable of the unjust steward.

1 ¶ Andº he saidºª alsoº untoº hisº disciples,º There wasºª a certainº richº man,º whichº hadºª a steward;º andº the sameº was accusedºª unto himº thatº he had wastedºª his¹² goods.ºª 2 Andº he calledºª him,º and saidºª unto him,º Howº is it that I hearºª thisº ofº thee?º giveºª an accountº of thyº stewardship;º forº thou mayest² be¹ª no¹ longer¹ steward.ºª²² 3 Thenº the² stewardº saidºª withinº himself,º Whatº shall I do?ºª forº myº lordº taketh awayºª fromº meº the² stewardship:º I cannotººª dig;ºª to begºª I am ashamed.ºª 4 I am resolvedºª whatº to do,ºª that,º whenº I am put outºª of the² stewardship,º they may receiveºª meº intoº their¹² houses.º 5 Soº he calledºª everyº oneº of hisº lord'sº debtorsº [unto him], and saidºª unto the² first,º How muchº owest² thou¹ª unto myº lord?º 6 Andº he² said,ºª An hundredº measuresº of oil.º Andº he saidºª unto him,º Takeºª thyº bill,º andº sit downºª quickly,º and writeºª fifty.º 7 Then¹² said² he¹ª to another,º Andº how muchº owestºª thou?º Andº he² said,ºª An hundredº measuresº of wheat.º Andº he saidºª unto him,º Takeºª thyº bill,º andº writeºª fourscore.º 8 Andº the² lordº commendedºª the² unjustº steward,º becauseº he had doneºª wisely:º forº the² childrenº of thisº worldº areºª inº theirº generationº wiserº thanº the² childrenº of light.º 9 And Iº sayºª unto you,º Makeºª to yourselvesº friendsº ofº the² mammonº of unrighteousness;º that,º whenº ye fail,ºª they may receiveºª youº intoº everlastingº habitations.º 10 He that is faithfulº inº that which is leastº isºª faithfulº alsoº inº much:º andº he that is unjustº inº the leastº isºª unjustº alsoº inº much.º 11 Ifº thereforeº ye have¹ª notº beenºª faithfulº inº the² unrighteousº mammon,º whoº will commit¹ª to your¹ trustºª² the² trueº [riches]? 12 Andº ifº ye have¹ª notº beenºª faithfulº inº that which is another man's,º whoº shall giveºª youº that which is your own?º
