A Psalm of Supplication and Trust.

A Prayer of David.

  1 aIncline° Your ear°, O LORD°, [and] answer° me;
  For I am bafflicted° and needy°.
  2 aPreserve° my Isoul°, for I am a bgodly° man°;
  O You my God°, save° Your servant° who ctrusts° in You.
  3 Be agracious° to me, O Lord°,
  For bto You I cry° all° day° long.
  4 Make° glad° the soul° of Your servant°,
  For to You, O Lord°, aI lift° up my soul°.
  5 For You, Lord°, are agood°, and bready° to forgive°,
  And cabundant° in lovingkindness° to all° who call° upon You.
  6 aGive° ear°, O LORD°, to my prayer°;
  And give° heed° to the voice° of my supplications°!
  7 In athe day° of my trouble° I shall call° upon You,
  For bYou will answer° me.
  8 There° is ano° one° like° You among the gods°, O Lord°,
  Nor° are there° any works° blike Yours.
  9 aAll° nations° whom° You have made° shall come° and worship° before° You, O Lord°,
  And they shall glorify° Your name°.
  10 For You are agreat° and bdo° Iwondrous° deeds°;
  You alone° care God°.

David strengtheneth his prayer by the conscience of his religion,

5 For² thou,² Lord,º [art] good,º and ready to forgive;º and plenteousº in mercyº unto all² them that call¹ª upon² thee. 6 Give ear,ºª O LORD,º unto my prayer;º and attendºª to the voiceº of my supplications.º 7 In the dayº of my troubleº I will call¹ª upon² thee: for² thou wilt answerºª me. 8 Among the godsº [there is] none² like unto thee,² O Lord;º neither² [are there any works] like unto thy works.º 9 All² nationsº whom² thou hast madeºª shall comeºª and worshipºª beforeº thee, O Lord;º and shall glorifyºª thy name.º 10 For² thou² [art] great,º and doestºª wondrous things:ºª thou² [art] Godº alone.²

Complaining of the proud, he craveth some token of God's goodness.

14 O God,º the proudº are risenºª against² me, and the assembliesº of violentº [men] have sought¹ª after² my soul;º and have not² setºª thee before² them. 15 But thou,² O Lord,º [art] a Godº full of compassion,º and gracious,º longsuffering,ºº and plenteousº in mercyº and truth.º 16 O turnºª unto² me, and have mercyºª upon me; giveºª thy strengthº unto thy servant,º and saveºª the sonº of thine handmaid.º 17 Shewºª² me a tokenº for good;º that they which hateºª me may seeºª [it], and be ashamed:ºª because² thou,² LORD,º hast holpenºª me, and comfortedºª me.
