1aThen we turned° and went° up the road° to Bashan°, and Og°, king° of Bashan°, Iwith all° his people° came° out to meet° us in battle° at Edrei°. 2 But the LORD° said° to me, ‘Do not fear° him, for I have delivered° him and all° his people° and his land° into your hand°; and you shall do° to him just° as you did° to Sihon° king° of the Amorites°, who° lived° at Heshbon°.’ 3 So the LORD° our God° delivered° Og° also°, king° of Bashan°, with all° his people° into our hand°, and we smote° Ithem until° no° survivor° was IIleft°. 4 We captured° all° his cities° at that time°; there was not a city° which° we did not take° from them: sixty° cities°, all° the region° of aArgob°, the kingdom° of Og° in Bashan°. 5 All° these° were cities° fortified° with high° walls°, gates° and bars°, besides°° a great° many° Iunwalled° towns°. 6 We Iutterly° destroyed° them, as we did° to aSihon° king° of Heshbon°, IIbutterly° destroying° IIIthe men°, women° and children° of every° city°. 7 aBut all° the animals° and the spoil° of the cities° we took° as our booty°.

8 ¶ “aThus we took° the land° at that time° from the hand° of the two° kings° of the Amorites° who° were beyond° the Jordan°, from the Ivalley° of Arnon° to Mount° Hermon° 9 (Sidonians° acall° Hermon° bSirion°, and the Amorites° call° it cSenir°): 10 all° the cities° of the plateau° and all° Gilead° and aall° Bashan°, as far° as Salecah° and Edrei°, cities° of the kingdom° of Og° in Bashan°. 11 (For only° Og° king° of Bashan° was left° of the remnant° of the aRephaim°. 12 ¶ “So we took° possession° of this° land° at that time°. From aAroer°, which° is by the Ivalley° of Arnon°, and half° the hill° country° of bGilead° and its cities° I gave° to the Reubenites° and to the Gadites°. 13 The rest° of Gilead° and all° Bashan°, the kingdom° of Og°, I gave° to the half-tribe°° of Manasseh°, all° the region° of Argob° (concerning all° Bashan°, it is called° the land° of Rephaim°. 14 aJair° the son° of Manasseh° took° all° the region° of Argob° as far° as the border° of the Geshurites° and the Maacathites°, and called° Iit, [that is], Bashan°, after° his own name°, IIHavvoth-jair°, [as it is] to this° day°.) 15 aTo Machir° I gave° Gilead°. 16 To the Reubenites° and to the Gadites° I gave° from Gilead° even as far° as the Ivalley° of Arnon°, the middle° of the Ivalley° IIas a border° and as far° as the Iriver° aJabbok°, the border° of the sons° of Ammon°; 17 the Arabah° also, with the Jordan° Ias [a] border°, from IIaChinnereth° beven as far° as the sea° of the Arabah°, cthe Salt° Sea°, IIIat the foot° of the slopes° of Pisgah° on the east°.

18 ¶ “Then I commanded° you at that time°, saying°, ‘aThe LORD° your God° has given° you this° land° to possess° it; ball° you valiant° men° shall cross° over° armed° before° your brothers°, the sons° of Israel°. 19 aBut your wives° and your little° ones° and your livestock° (I know° that you have bmuch° livestock°) shall remain° in your cities° which° I have given° you, 20 auntil° the LORD° gives° rest° to your fellow° countrymen° as to you, and they also° possess° the land° which° the LORD° your God° will give° them beyond° the Jordan°. bThen you may return° every° man° to his possession° which° I have given° you.’ 21 I commanded° Joshua° at that time°, saying°, ‘Your eyes° have seen° all° that the LORD° your God° has done° to these° two° kings°; so° the LORD° shall do° to all° the kingdoms° into which° you are about to cross°. 22 Do not fear° them, for the LORD° your God° ais the one fighting° for you.’

23 ¶ “I also pleaded° with the LORD° at that time°, saying°, 24 ‘O Lord° IGOD°, You have begun° to show° Your servant° aYour greatness° and Your strong° hand°; for what° bgod° is there in heaven° or on earth° who° can do° such works° and mighty° acts° as Yours? 25 Let me, I pray°, cross° over° and see° the afair° land° that is beyond° the Jordan°, Ithat good° hill° country° and Lebanon°.’ 26 But athe LORD° was angry° with me on your account°, and would not listen° to me; and the LORD° said° to me, ‘IEnough°! Speak° to Me no° more°° of this° matter°. 27 Go° up to the top° of aPisgah° and lift° up your eyes° to the west° and north° and south° and east°, and see° [it] with your eyes°, bfor you shall not cross° over° this° Jordan°. 28 aBut charge° Joshua° and encourage° him and strengthen° him, bfor he shall go° across° Iat the head° of this° people°, and he will give° them as an inheritance° the land° which° you will see°.’ 29 So we remained° in the valley° opposite° aBeth-peor°.

The story of the conquest of Og king of Bashan.

1 ¶ Then we turned,ºª and went upºª the wayº to Bashan:º and Ogº the kingº of Bashanº came outºª againstºª us, he² and all² his people,º to battleº at Edrei.º 2 And the LORDº saidºª unto² me, Fearºª him not:² for² I will deliverºª him, and all² his people,º and his land,º into thy hand;º and thou shalt doºª unto him as² thou didstºª unto Sihonº kingº of the Amorites,º which² dweltºª at Heshbon.º 3 So the LORDº our Godº deliveredºª into our handsº² Ogº also,² the kingº of Bashan,º and all² his people:º and we smoteºª him until² none² was leftºª to him remaining.º 4 And we tookºª² all² his citiesº at that² time,º there was² not² a cityº which² we tookºª not² from²² them, threescoreº cities,º all² the regionº of Argob,º the kingdomº of Ogº in Bashan.º 5 All² these² citiesº [were] fencedºª with highº walls,º gates,º and bars;º beside² unwalledº townsº² a greatº many.ºª 6 And we utterly destroyedºª them, as² we didºª unto Sihonº kingº of Heshbon,º utterly destroyingºª the men,º women,º and children,º of every² city.º 7 But all² the cattle,º and the spoilº of the cities,º we took for a preyºª to ourselves. 8 And we tookºª at that² timeº out¹ª of the handº² of the twoº kingsº of the Amoritesº² the landº that² [was] on this sideº Jordan,º from the riverº² of Arnonº unto² mountº Hermon;º 9 ([Which] Hermonº the Sidoniansº callºª Sirion;º and the Amoritesº callºª it Shenir;)º 10 All² the citiesº of the plain,º and all² Gilead,º and all² Bashan,º unto² Salchahº and Edrei,º citiesº of the kingdomº of Ogº in Bashan.º

The bigness of his bed.

11 For² only² Ogº kingº of Bashanº remainedºª of the remnantº² of giants;º behold,² his bedsteadº [was] a bedsteadº of iron;º [is] it² notº in Rabbathº of the childrenº of Ammon?º nineº cubitsº [was] the lengthº thereof, and fourº cubitsº the breadthº of it, after the cubitº of a man.º

12 And this² land,º [which] we possessedºª at that² time,º from Aroer,º² which² [is] by² the riverº Arnon,º and halfº mountº Gilead,º and the citiesº thereof, gaveºª I unto the Reubenitesº and to the Gadites.º 13 And the restº of Gilead,º and all² Bashan,º [being] the kingdomº of Og,º gaveºª I unto the halfº tribeº of Manasseh;º all² the regionº of Argob,º with all² Bashan,º whichº was calledºª the landº of giants.º 14 Jairº the sonº of Manassehº tookºª² all² the countryº of Argobº unto² the coastsº of Geshuriº and Maachathi;º and calledºª them after² his own name,º² Bashanhavothjair,ºº unto² this² day.º 15 And I gaveºª² Gileadº unto Machir.º 16 And unto the Reubenitesº and unto the Gaditesº I gaveºª from² Gileadº even unto² the riverº Arnonº halfº the valley,º and the borderº even unto² the riverº Jabbok,º [which is] the borderº of the childrenº of Ammon;º 17 The plainº also, and Jordan,º and the coastº [thereof], from Chinnerethº² even unto² the seaº of the plain,º [even] the saltº sea,º under² Ashdothpisgahºª¹² eastward.º
