David, foreknowing the place of the Temple, prepareth abundance for the building of it.

1 ¶ Then Davidº said,ºª This² [is] the houseº of the LORDº God,º and this² [is] the altarº of the burnt offeringº for Israel.º 2 And Davidº commandedºª to gather togetherºª² the strangersº that² [were] in the landº of Israel;º and he setºª masonsºª to hewºª wroughtº stonesº to buildºª the houseº of God.º 3 And Davidº preparedºª ironº in abundanceº for the nailsº for the doorsº of the gates,º and for the joinings;º and brassº in abundanceº without² weight;º 4 Also cedarº treesº in abundance:ºº for² the Zidoniansº and they of Tyreº broughtºª muchº cedarº woodº to David.º 5 And Davidº said,ºª Solomonº my sonº [is] youngº and tender,º and the houseº [that is] to be buildedºª for the LORDº [must be] exceedingº magnifical,ºª of fameº and of gloryº throughout all² countries:º I will [therefore] now² make preparationºª for it. So Davidº preparedºª abundantlyº beforeº his death.º

He instucteth Solomon in God's promises, and his duty in building the Temple.

6 ¶ Then he calledºª for Solomonº his son,º and chargedºª him to buildºª an houseº for the LORDº Godº of Israel.º 7 And Davidº saidºª to Solomon,º My son,º as for me,² it was² in² my mindº to buildºª an houseº unto the nameº of the LORDº my God:º 8 But the wordº of the LORDº came² to² me, saying,ºª Thou hast shedºª bloodº abundantly,º and hast madeºª greatº wars:º thou shalt not² buildºª an houseº unto my name,º because² thou hast shedºª muchº bloodº upon the earthº in my sight.º 9 Behold,² a sonº shall be bornºª to thee, who² shall be² a manº of rest;º and I will give him restºª from all²² his enemiesºª round about:º² for² his nameº shall be² Solomon,º and I will giveºª peaceº and quietnessº unto² Israelº in his days.º 10 He² shall buildºª an houseº for my name;º and he² shall be² my son,º and I² [will be] his father;º and I will establishºª the throneº of his kingdomº over² Israelº for¹ ever.º² 11 Now,² my son,º the LORDº be² with² thee; and prosperºª thou, and buildºª the houseº of the LORDº thy God,º as² he hath saidºª of² thee. 12 Only² the LORDº giveºª thee wisdomº and understanding,º and give thee chargeºª concerning² Israel,º that thou mayest keepºª² the lawº of the LORDº thy God.º 13 Then² shalt thou prosper,ºª if² thou takest heedºª to fulfilºª² the statutesº and judgmentsº which² the LORDº chargedºª² Mosesº with concerning² Israel:º be strong,ºª and of good courage;ºª dreadºª not,² nor² be dismayed.ºª 14 Now, behold,² in my troubleº I have preparedºª for the houseº of the LORDº an hundredº thousandº talentsº of gold,º and a thousandº thousandº talentsº of silver;º and of brassº and ironº without² weight;º for² it is² in abundance:º timberº also and stoneº have I prepared;ºª and thou mayest addºª thereto.² 15 Moreover [there are] workmenººª with² thee in abundance,º hewersºª and workersº of stoneº and timber,º and all manner² of cunning menº for every manner² of work.º 16 Of the gold,º the silver,º and the brass,º and the iron,º [there is] no² number.º Ariseºª [therefore], and be doing,ºª and the LORDº be² with² thee.

He chargeth the princes to assist his son.

17 ¶ Davidº also commandedºª all² the princesº of Israelº to helpºª Solomonº his son,º [saying], 18 [Is] not² the LORDº your Godº with² you? and hath he [not] given you restºª on every side?º² for² he hath givenºª² the inhabitantsºª of the landº into mine hand;º and the landº is subduedºª beforeº the LORD,º and beforeº his people.º 19 Now² setºª your heartº and your soulº to seekºª the LORDº your God;º ariseºª therefore, and buildºª ye² the sanctuaryº of the LORDº God,º to bringºª² the arkº of the covenantº of the LORD,º and the holyº vesselsº of God,º into the houseº that is to be builtºª to the nameº of the LORD.º
