David, in a solemn assembly, having declared God's favour to him, and promise to his son Solomon, exhorteth them to fear God.

1 ¶ And Davidº assembledºª² all² the princesº of Israel,º the princesº of the tribes,º and the captainsº of the companiesº that ministeredºª² to the kingº by course,¹ and the captainsº over the thousands,º and captainsº over the hundreds,º and the stewardsº over all² the substanceº and possessionº of the king,º and of his sons,º with² the officers,º and with the mighty men,º and with all² the valiant² men,¹² unto² Jerusalem.º 2 Then Davidº the kingº stood upºª upon² his feet,º and said,ºª Hearºª me, my brethren,º and my people:º [As for me], I² [had] in² mine heartº to buildºª an houseº of restº for the arkº of the covenantº of the LORD,º and for the footstoolºº of our God,º and had made readyºª for the building:ºª 3 But Godº saidºª unto me, Thou shalt not² buildºª an houseº for my name,º because² thou² [hast been] a manº of war,º and hast shedºª blood.º 4 Howbeit the LORDº Godº of Israelº choseºª me before all²² the houseº of my fatherº to be² kingº over² Israelº for ever:º for² he hath chosenºª Judahº [to be] the ruler;º and of the houseº of Judah,º the houseº of my father;º and among the sonsº of my fatherº he likedºª me to make [me] kingºª over² all² Israel:º 5 And of all²² my sons,º (for² the LORDº hath givenºª me manyº sons,)º he hath chosenºª Solomonº my sonº to sitºª upon² the throneº of the kingdomº of the LORDº over² Israel.º 6 And he saidºª unto me, Solomonº thy son,º he² shall buildºª my houseº and my courts:º for² I have chosenºª him [to be] my son,º and I² will be² his father.º 7 Moreover I will establishºª² his kingdomº for ever,º² if² he be constantºª to doºª my commandmentsº and my judgments,º as at this² day.º 8 Now² therefore in the sightº of all² Israelº the congregationº of the LORD,º and in the audienceº of our God,º keepºª and seekºª for all² the commandmentsº of the LORDº your God:º that² ye may possessºª² this goodº land,º and leave [it] for an inheritanceºª for your childrenº afterº you for¹ ever.º²

He encourageth Solomon to build the Temple.

9 ¶ And thou,² Solomonº my son,º knowºª thou² the Godº of thy father,º and serveºª him with a perfectº heartº and with a willingº mind:º for² the LORDº searchethºª all² hearts,º and understandethºª all² the imaginationsº of the thoughts:º if² thou seekºª him, he will be foundºª of thee; but if² thou forsakeºª him, he will cast thee offºª for ever.¹² 10 Take heedºª now;² for² the LORDº hath chosenºª thee to buildºª an houseº for the sanctuary:º be strong,ºª and doºª [it].

He giveth him patterns for the form, and gold and silver for the materials.

11 ¶ Then Davidº gaveºª to Solomonº his sonº² the patternº of the porch,º and of the housesº thereof, and of the treasuriesº thereof, and of the upper chambersº thereof, and of the innerº parloursº thereof, and of the placeº of the mercy seat,º 12 And the patternº of all² that² he had² by the spirit,º of² the courtsº of the houseº of the LORD,º and of all² the chambersº round about,º of the treasuriesº of the houseº of God,º and of the treasuriesº of the dedicated things:º 13 Also for the coursesº of the priestsº and the Levites,º and for all² the workº of the serviceº of the houseº of the LORD,º and for all² the vesselsº of serviceº in the houseº of the LORD.º 14 [He gave] of goldº by weightº for [things] of gold,º for all² instrumentsº of all manner of service;º [silver also] for all² instrumentsº of silverº by weight,º for all² instrumentsº of every kind of service:º 15 Even the weightº for the candlesticksº of gold,º and for their lampsº of gold,º by weightº for every candlestick,º and for the lampsº thereof: and for the candlesticksº of silverº by weight,º [both] for the candlestick,º and [also] for the lampsº thereof, according to the useº of every candlestick.º 16 And by weightº [he gave] goldº for the tablesº of shewbread,º for every table;º and [likewise] silverº for the tablesº of silver:º 17 Also pureº goldº for the fleshhooks,º and the bowls,º and the cups:º and for the goldenº basonsº [he gave gold] by weightº for every bason;º and [likewise silver] by weightº for every basonº of silver:º 18 And for the altarº of incenseº refinedºª goldº by weight;º and goldº for the patternº of the chariotº of the cherubims,º that spread outºª [their wings], and coveredºª the arkº of the covenantº of the LORD.º 19 All² [this, said David], the LORDº made me understandºª in writingº by [his] handº² upon² me, [even] all² the worksº of this pattern.º

He encourageth Solomon to build the Temple.

20 And Davidº saidºª to Solomonº his son,º Be strongºª and of good courage,ºª and doºª [it]: fearºª not,² nor² be dismayed:ºª for² the LORDº God,º [even] my God,º [will be] with² thee; he will not² failºª thee, nor² forsakeºª thee, until² thou hast finishedºª all² the workº for the serviceº of the houseº of the LORD.º 21 And, behold,² the coursesº of the priestsº and the Levites,º [even they shall be with thee] for all² the serviceº of the houseº of God:º and [there shall be] with² thee for all manner² of workmanshipº every² willingº skilful man,º for any manner² of service:º also the princesº and all² the peopleº [will be] wholly² at thy commandment.º
