The Old and the New

1 Now° even° the first° [covenant] had° aregulations° of divine° worship° and bthe earthly° sanctuary°. 2 For there was aa Itabernacle° prepared°, the IIouter° one°, in which° [were] bthe lampstand° and cthe table° and dthe IIIsacred° bread°; this° is called° the holy° place°. 3 Behind° athe second° veil° there was a Itabernacle° which is called° the bHoly° of Holies°, 4 having° a golden° Iaaltar° of incense° and bthe ark° of the covenant° covered° on all° sides° with gold°, in which° was ca golden° jar° holding° the manna°, and dAaron’s° rod° which budded°, and ethe tables° of the covenant°; 5 and above° it [were] the acherubim° of glory° bovershadowing° the mercy° seat°; but of these° things° we cannot° now° speak° in detail°.

11 Butº Christº being comeºª an high priestº of good thingsº to come,ºª byº a greaterº andº more perfectº tabernacle,º notº made with hands,º that is to say,ºª notº of thisº building;º 12 Neitherº byº the bloodº of goatsº andº calves,º butº byº his ownº bloodº he entered inºª onceº intoº the² holy place,º having obtainedºª eternalº redemptionº [for us]. 13 Forº ifº the² bloodº of bullsº andº of goats,º andº the ashesº of an heiferº sprinklingºª the² unclean,ºª sanctifiethºª toº the² purifyingº of the² flesh:º 14 How much¹² moreº shall¹ª the² bloodº of Christ,º whoº throughº the eternalº Spiritº offeredºª himselfº without spotº to God,º purgeºª yourº conscienceº fromº deadº worksº to¹ serveºª the livingºª God?º 15 Andº for this¹ causeº² he isºª the mediatorº of the newº testament,º thatº by means¹ª of death,º² forº the redemptionº of the² transgressionsº [that were] underº the² firstº testament,º they which are calledºª might receiveºª the² promiseº of eternalº inheritance.º 16 Forº whereº a testamentº [is], there must also of necessityº beºª the deathº of the² testator.ºª 17 Forº a testamentº [is] of forceº after¹ men are dead:º² otherwiseº it is of¹ª no¹ª strength¹ª at allº² whileº the² testatorºª liveth.ºª 18 Whereuponº neitherº the² firstº [testament] was dedicatedºª withoutº blood.º 19 Forº whenº Mosesº had spokenºª everyº preceptº to allº the² peopleº accordingº to the law,º he tookºª the² bloodº of calvesº andº of goats,º withº water,º andº scarletº wool,º andº hyssop,º and sprinkledºª bothº the² book,º¹ andº allº the² people,º 20 Saying,ºª Thisº [is] the² bloodº of the² testamentº whichº Godº hath enjoinedºª untoº you.º 21 Moreoverº¹ he sprinkledºª with bloodº both¹² the² tabernacle,º andº allº the² vesselsº of the² ministry.º 22 Andº almostº all thingsº are¹ª byº the² lawº purgedºª withº blood;º andº withoutº shedding of bloodº isºª noº remission.º 23 [It was] thereforeº necessaryº that the²² patterns¹² of things¹² inº the² heavensº should be purifiedºª with these;º butº the² heavenly thingsº themselvesº with betterº sacrificesº thanº these.º 24 Forº Christº is¹ª notº enteredºª intoº the holy placesº made with hands,º [which are] the figuresº of the² true;º butº intoº heavenº itself,º nowº to appearºª in the² presenceº of Godº forº us:º 25 Norº yet thatº he should offerºª himselfº often,º asº the² high priestº enterethºª intoº the² holy placeº every¹ yearº² withº bloodº of others;º 26 For thenº mustºª heº oftenº have sufferedºª sinceº the foundationº of the world:º butº nowº onceº inº the endº of the² worldº hath he appearedºª to¹ put awayº² sinº byº the² sacrificeº of himself.¹² 27 Andº asºº it is appointedºª unto menº onceº to die,ºª butº afterº thisº the judgment:º 28 Soº Christº was onceº offeredºª to¹ bearºª the sinsº of many;º and unto them that look¹ª for² himº shall he appearºª¹ the² second timeº withoutº sinº untoº salvation.º
