Daniel's vision of the ram and he goat.1 ¶ In the thirdº yearº of the reignº of kingº Belshazzarº a visionº appearedºª unto² me, [even unto] me² Daniel,º after¹ that² which appearedºª unto² me at the first.º 2 And I sawºª in a vision;º and it came to pass,² when I saw,ºª that I² [was] at Shushanº [in] the palace,º which² [is] in the provinceº of Elam;º and I sawºª in a vision,º and I² was² by² the riverº of Ulai.º 3 Then I lifted upºª mine eyes,º and saw,ºª and, behold,² there stoodºª beforeº the riverº aº ramº which had [two] horns:º and the [two] hornsº [were] high;º but oneº [was] higherº than² the other,º and the higherº came upºª last.º 4 I sawºª² the ramº pushingºª westward,º and northward,º and southward;º so that no²² beastsº might standºª beforeº him, neither² [was there any] that could deliverºª out of his hand;º² but he didºª according to his will,º and became great.ºª 5 And as I² was² considering,ºª behold,² an he¹ goatº² cameºª from² the westº on² the faceº of the whole² earth,º and touchedºª not² the ground:º and the goatº [had] a notableº hornº between² his eyes.º 6 And he cameºª to² the ramº that hadº [two] horns,º which² I had seenºª standingºª beforeº the river,º and ranºª unto² him in the furyº of his power.º 7 And I sawºª him come¹ª close² untoº the ram,º and he was moved with cholerºª against² him, and smoteºª² the ram,º and brakeºª² his twoº horns:º and there was² no² powerº in the ramº to standºª beforeº him, but he cast him downºª to the ground,º and stamped¹ª upon² him: and there was² none² that could deliverºª the ramº out of his hand.º² 8 Therefore the he¹ goatº² waxed very¹ great:ºª²² and when he was strong,ºª the greatº hornº was broken;ºª and for² it came upºª fourº notable onesº toward the fourº windsº of heaven.º 9 And out of² oneº of² them came forthºª a² littleº² horn,º which waxed exceeding¹ great,ºª² toward² the south,º and toward² the east,º and toward² the pleasantº [land]. 10 And it waxed great,ºª [even] to² the hostº of heaven;º and it cast downºª [some] of² the hostº and of² the starsº to the ground,º and stamped¹ª upon² them. 11 Yea, he magnifiedºª [himself] even to² the princeº of the host,º and by² him the dailyº [sacrifice] was taken away,ºªªª and the placeº of his sanctuaryº was cast down.ºª 12 And an hostº was givenºª [him] against² the dailyº [sacrifice] by reason of transgression,º and it cast downºª the truthº to the ground;º and it practised,ºª and prospered.ºª [1] Dn 7:1, 15, 28; 8:15; 9:2; 10:2, 7; 11:4.
