The beginning of the year is changed.

1 ¶ And the LORDº spakeºª unto² Mosesº and Aaronº in the landº of Egypt,º saying,ºª 2 This² monthº [shall be] unto you the beginningº of months:º it² [shall be] the firstº monthº of the yearº to you.

The Passover is instituted.

3 ¶ Speakºª ye unto² all² the congregationº of Israel,º saying,ºª In the tenthº [day] of this² monthº they shall takeºª to them every manº a lamb,º according to the houseº of [their] fathers,º a lambº for an house:º 4 And if² the householdº be¹ª too littleºª for the lamb,ºº² let him² and his neighbourº nextº unto² his houseº takeºª [it] according to the numberº of the souls;º every manº according¹ to² his eatingº shall make your countºª for² the lamb.º 5 Your lambº shall be² without blemish,º a maleº of the firstº year:º ye shall take¹ª [it] out² from² the sheep,º or from² the goats:º 6 And ye shall keepº² it up until² the fourteenthºº dayº of the same² month:º and the wholeº assemblyº of the congregationº of Israelº shall killºª it inº the evening.º 7 And they shall takeºª of² the blood,º and strikeºª [it] on² the twoº side postsº and on² the upper door postº of² the houses,º wherein² they shall eatºª it. 8 And they shall eatºª² the fleshº in that² night,º roastº with fire,º and unleavened bread;º [and] with² bitterº [herbs] they shall eatºª it. 9 Eatºª not² of² it raw,º nor sodden¹ª¹ at all²² with water,º but²² roastº [with] fire;º his headº with² his legs,º and with² the purtenanceº thereof. 10 And ye shall let nothing² of² it remainºª until² the morning;º and that which remainethºª of² it until² the morningº ye shall burnºª with fire.º

The rite of the Passover.

11 ¶ And thusº shall ye eatºª it; [with] your loinsº girded,ºª your shoesº on your feet,º and your staffº in your hand;º and ye shall eatºª it in haste:º it² [is] the LORD'Sº passover.º 12 For I will pass¹ª through² the landº of Egyptº this² night,º and will smiteºª all² the firstbornº in the landº of Egypt,º both manº² and beast;º and against all² the godsº of Egyptº I will executeºª judgment:º I² [am] the LORD.º 13 And the bloodº shall be² to you for a tokenº upon² the housesº where² ye² [are]: and when I seeºª² the blood,º I will passºª over² you, and the plagueº shall not² be² upon you to destroyº [you], when I smiteºª the landº of Egypt.º 14 And this² dayº shall be² unto you for a memorial;º and ye shall keepºª it a feastº to the LORDº throughout your generations;º ye shall keep it a feastºª by an ordinanceº for ever.º

Unleavened bread.

15 Sevenº daysº shall ye eatºª unleavened bread;º evenº the firstº dayº ye shall put awayºª leavenº out of your houses:º² for² whosoever² eatethºª leavened breadº from the first¹ dayº²² until² the seventhº day,º that² soulº shall be cut¹ª off² from Israel.º² 16 And in the firstº dayº [there shall be] an holyº convocation,º and in the seventhº dayº there shall be² an holyº convocationº to you; no² manner² of workº shall be doneºª in them, saveº [that] which² every² manº must eat,ºª that² only² may be doneºª of you. 17 And ye shall observeºª² [the feast of] unleavened bread;º for² in this² selfsameº dayº have I brought¹ª your armies¹ out²²² of the landº² of Egypt:º therefore shall ye observeºª² this² dayº in your generationsº by an ordinanceº for ever.º

18 ¶ In the firstº [month], on the fourteenthºº dayº of the monthº at even,º ye shall eatºª unleavened bread,º until² the oneº and twentiethº dayº of the monthº at even.º 19 Sevenº daysº shall there be no² leavenº foundºª in your houses:º for² whosoever² eatethºª that which is leavened,¹ª² even that² soulº shall be cut offºª from the congregationº² of Israel,º whether he be a stranger,º or bornº in the land.º 20 Ye shall eatºª nothing²² leavened;¹ª² in all² your habitationsº shall ye eatºª unleavened bread.º

21 ¶ Then Mosesº calledºª for all² the eldersº of Israel,º and saidºª unto² them, Draw outºª and takeºª you a lambº according to your families,º and killºª the passover.º 22 And ye shall takeºª a bunchº of hyssop,º and dipºª [it] in the bloodº that² [is] in the bason,º and strikeºª² the lintelº and the twoº side postsº with² the bloodº that² [is] in the bason;º and noneº² of you² shall go outºª at the doorº² of his houseº until² the morning.º 23 For the LORDº will pass throughºª to smiteºª² the Egyptians;º and when he seethºª² the bloodº upon² the lintel,º and on² the twoº side posts,º the LORDº will pass² over¹ª² the door,º and will not² sufferºª the destroyerºª to come¹ª in² unto² your housesº to smiteºª [you]. 24 And ye shall observeºª² this² thingº for an ordinanceº to thee and to thy sonsº for¹ ever.º² 25 And it shall come to pass,² when² ye be comeºª to² the landº which² the LORDº will giveºª you, according as² he hath promised,ºª that ye shall keepºª² this² service.º 26 And it shall come to pass,² when² your childrenº shall sayºª unto² you, What² mean ye by this² service?º 27 That ye shall say,ºª It² [is] the sacrificeº of the LORD'Sº passover,º who² passedºª over² the housesº of the childrenº of Israelº in Egypt,º when he smoteºª² the Egyptians,º and deliveredºª our houses.º And the peopleº bowed the headºª and worshipped.ºª 28 And the childrenº of Israelº went away,¹ª² and didºª as² the LORDº had commandedºª² Mosesº and Aaron,º so² didºª they.

The firstborn are slain.

29 ¶ And it came to pass,² that at midnightºº the LORDº smoteºª all² the firstbornº in the landº of Egypt,º from the firstbornº² of Pharaohº that satºª on² his throneº unto² the firstbornº of the captiveº that² [was] in the dungeon;ºº and all² the firstbornº of cattle.º 30 And Pharaohº rose upºª in the night,º he,² and all² his servants,º and all² the Egyptians;º and there was² a greatº cryº in Egypt;º for² [there was] not² a houseº where²² [there was] not² one dead.ºª

The Israelites are driven out of the land.

31 ¶ And he calledºª for Mosesº and Aaronº by night,º and said,ºª Rise up,ºª [and] get you forthºª from amongº² my people,º both² ye² and² the childrenº of Israel;º and go,¹ª² serveºª² the LORD,º as ye have said.ºª 32 Also² takeºª your flocksº and² your herds,º as² ye have said,ºª and be gone;¹ª² and blessºª me also.² 33 And the Egyptiansº were urgentºª upon² the people,º that they might send¹ª them out² of² the landº in haste;ºª for² they said,ºª We [be] all² deadºª [men]. 34 And the peopleº tookºª² their doughº before² it was leavened,ºª their kneadingtroughsº being bound upºª in their clothesº upon² their shoulders.º 35 And the childrenº of Israelº didºª according to the wordº of Moses;º and they borrowedºª of the Egyptiansº² jewelsº of silver,º and jewelsº of gold,º and raiment:º 36 And the LORDº gaveºª the peopleº² favourº in the sightº of the Egyptians,º so that they lentºª unto them [such things as they required]. And they spoiledºª² the Egyptians.º

They come to Succoth.

37 ¶ And the childrenº of Israelº journeyedºª from Ramesesº² to Succoth,º about sixº hundredº thousandº on footº [that were] men,º besideº children.º² 38 And a mixedº multitudeº went upºª also² with² them; and flocks,º and herds,º [even] veryº muchº cattle.º 39 And they bakedºª unleavenedº cakesº of² the doughº which² they brought forthºª out of Egypt,º² for² it was not leavened;ºª² because² they were thrust outºª of Egypt,º² and couldºª not² tarry,ºª neither²² had they preparedºª for themselves any victual.º

40 ¶ Now the sojourningº of the childrenº of Israel,º who² dweltºª in Egypt,º [was] fourº hundredº¹ and thirtyº years.º 41 And it came to pass² at the endº² of the fourº hundredº¹ and thirtyº years,º even the selfsameº² dayº it came to pass,² that all² the hostsº of the LORDº went outºª from the landº² of Egypt.º 42 It² [is] a nightº to be much observedº unto the LORDº for bringing¹ª them out² from the landº² of Egypt:º this² [is] that² nightº of the LORDº to be observedº of all² the childrenº of Israelº in their generations.º

The ordinance of the Passover.

43 ¶ And the LORDº saidºª unto² Mosesº and Aaron,º This² [is] the ordinanceº of the passover:º There shall no²² strangerºº eatºª thereof: 44 But every² man'sº servantº that is boughtº for money,º when thou hast circumcisedºª him, then² shall he eatºª thereof. 45 A foreignerº and an hired servantº shall not² eatºª thereof. 46 In oneº houseº shall it be eaten;ºª thou shalt not² carry forthºª ought of² the fleshº abroadº out of² the house;º neither² shall ye breakºª a boneº thereof. 47 All² the congregationº of Israelº shall keepºª it. 48 And when² a strangerº shall sojournºª with² thee, and will keepºª the passoverº to the LORD,º let all² his malesº be circumcised,ºª and then² let him come nearºª and keepºª it; and he shall be² as one that is born¹ in² the land:º for no uncircumcised personº²² shall eatºª thereof. 49 Oneº lawº shall be² to him that is homeborn,º and unto the strangerº that sojournethºª amongº you. 50 Thus didºª all² the childrenº of Israel;º as² the LORDº commandedºª² Mosesº and Aaron,º so² didºª they. 51 And it came to pass² the selfsameº² day,º [that] the LORDº did bringºª² the childrenº of Israelº out of the landº² of Egyptº by² their armies.º
