The water of separation made of ashes of a red heifer.

1 ¶ And the LORDº spakeºª unto² Mosesº and unto² Aaron,º saying,ºª 2 This² [is] the ordinanceº of the lawº which² the LORDº hath commanded,ºª saying,ºª Speakºª unto² the childrenº of Israel,º that they bringºª² thee a redº heiferº without spot,º wherein² [is] no² blemish,º [and] upon² which² neverº cameºª yoke:º 3 And ye shall giveºª her unto² Eleazarº the priest,º that he may bring her forthºª² withoutº²² the camp,º and [one] shall slayºª her beforeº his face: 4 And Eleazarº the priestº shall takeºª of her bloodº² with his finger,º and sprinkleºª of her bloodº² directlyº² beforeº the tabernacleº of the congregationº sevenº times:º 5 And [one] shall burnºª² the heiferº in his sight;º² her skin,º and her flesh,º and her blood,º with² her dung,º shall he burn:ºª 6 And the priestº shall takeºª cedarº wood,º and hyssop,º and scarlet,ºº and castºª [it] into² the midstº of the burningº of the heifer.º 7 Then the priestº shall washºª his clothes,º and he shall batheºª his fleshº in water,º and afterwardº he shall comeºª into² the camp,º and the priestº shall be uncleanºª until² the even.º 8 And he that burnethºª her shall washºª his clothesº in water,º and batheºª his fleshº in water,º and shall be uncleanºª until² the even.º 9 And a manº [that is] cleanº shall gather¹ª up²² the ashesº of the heifer,º and lay [them] up¹ª² withoutº² the campº in a cleanº place,º and it shall be² keptº for the congregationº of the childrenº of Israelº for a waterº of separation:º it² [is] a purification for sin.º 10 And he that gatherethºª² the ashesº of the heiferº shall washºª² his clothes,º and be uncleanºª until² the even:º and it shall be² unto the childrenº of Israel,º and unto the strangerº that sojournethºª amongº them, for a statuteº for ever.º

The law for the use of it in purification of the unclean.

11 ¶ He that touchethºª the deadºª bodyº of any² manº shall be uncleanºª sevenº days.º 12 He² shall purify¹ª himself² with it on the thirdº day,º and on the seventhº dayº he shall be clean:ºª but if² he purify¹ª not himself²² the thirdº day,º then the seventhº dayº he shall not² be clean.ºª 13 Whosoever² touchethºª the deadºª bodyº of any manº that² is dead,ºª and purifieth¹ª not himself,²² defilethºª² the tabernacleº of the LORD;º and that² soulº shall be cut offºª from Israel:º² because² the waterº of separationº was not² sprinkledºª upon² him, he shall be² unclean;º his uncleannessº [is] yet² upon him. 14 This² [is] the law,º when² a manº diethºª in a tent:º all² that comeºª into² the tent,º and all² that² [is] in the tent,º shall be uncleanºª sevenº days.º 15 And every² openºª vessel,º which² hath no² coveringº boundº upon² it,² [is] unclean.º 16 And whosoever²² touchethºª one that is slainº with a swordº in² the openº fields,º or² a dead body,ºª or² a boneº of a man,º or² a grave,º shall be uncleanºª sevenº days.º 17 And for an uncleanº [person] they shall takeºª of the ashesº² of the burnt heiferº of purification for sin,º and runningº waterº shall be putºª thereto² in² a vessel:º 18 And a cleanº personº shall takeºª hyssop,º and dipºª [it] in the water,º and sprinkleºª [it] upon² the tent,º and upon² all² the vessels,º and upon² the personsº that² were² there,² and upon² him that touchedºª a bone,º or² one slain,º or² one dead,ºª or² a grave:º 19 And the cleanº [person] shall sprinkleºª upon² the uncleanº on the thirdº day,º and on the seventhº day:º and on the seventhº dayº he shall purifyºª himself, and washºª his clothes,º and batheºª himself in water,º and shall be cleanºª at even.º 20 But the manº that² shall be unclean,ºª and shall not² purify¹ª himself,² that² soulº shall be cut offºª from amongº² the congregation,º because² he hath defiledºª² the sanctuaryº of the LORD:º the waterº of separationº hath not² been sprinkledºª upon² him; he² [is] unclean.º 21 And it shall be² a perpetualº statuteº unto them, that he that sprinklethºª the waterº of separationº shall washºª his clothes;º and he that touchethºª the waterº of separationº shall be uncleanºª until² even.º 22 And whatsoever²² the uncleanº [person] touchethºª shall be unclean;ºª and the soulº that touchethºª [it] shall be uncleanºª until² even.º
