Job, complaining of his friends' cruelty, sheweth there is misery enough in him to feed their cruelty.

1 ¶ Then Jobº answeredºª and said,ºª 2 How long²² will ye vexºª my soul,º and break¹ª me in pieces² with words?º 3 These² tenº timesº have ye reproachedºª me: ye are not² ashamedºª [that] ye make yourselves strangeºª to me. 4 And² be it indeedº [that] I have erred,ºª mine errorº remainethºª with² myself. 5 If² indeedº ye will magnifyºª [yourselves] against² me, and pleadºª against² me my reproach:º 6 Knowºª nowº that² Godº hath overthrownºª me, and hath compassedºª² me with his net.¹² 7 Behold,² I cry outºª of wrong,º but I am not² heard:ºª I cry aloud,ºª but [there is] no² judgment.º 8 He hath fenced upºª my wayº that I cannot² pass,ºª and he hath setºª darknessº in² my paths.º 9 He hath stripped¹ª me of²²² my glory,º and takenºª the crownº [from] my head.º 10 He hath destroyedºª me on every side,º and I am gone:¹ª² and mine hopeº hath he removedºª like a tree.º 11 He hath also kindledºª his wrathº against² me, and he countethºª me unto him as [one of] his enemies.º 12 His troopsº comeºª together,º and raise upºª their wayº against² me, and encampºª round aboutº my tabernacle.º 13 He hath put¹ª my brethren¹ farºª² from²² me, and mine acquaintanceºª are verily² estrangedºª from² me. 14 My kinsfolkº have failed,ºª and my familiar friendsºª have forgottenºª me. 15 They that dwellºª in mine house,º and my maids,º countºª me for a stranger:ºª I am² an alienº in their sight.º 16 I calledºª my servant,º and he gave [me] no² answer;ºª I intreatedºª him withº my mouth.º 17 My breathº is strangeºª to my wife,º though I intreated¹ª² for the children'sº [sake] of mine own body.º 18 Yea,² young childrenº despisedºª me; I arose,ºª and they spakeºª against me. 19 All² my inwardº friendsº abhorredºª me: and they whom² I lovedºª are turnedºª against me. 20 My boneº cleavethºª to my skinº and to my flesh,º and I am escapedºª with the skinº of my teeth.º
