Prayer for Deliverance from Secret Enemies.

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

  1 Hear° my voice°, O God°, in amy Icomplaint°;
  bPreserve° my life° from dread° of the enemy°.
  2 Hide° me from the asecret° counsel° of evildoers°,
  From the tumult° of bthose who do° iniquity°,
  3 Who° ahave sharpened° their tongue° like a sword°.
  They baimed° bitter° speech° [as] their arrow°,
  4 To ashoot° Ifrom concealment° at the blameless°;
  Suddenly° they shoot° at him, and bdo not fear°.
  5 They Ihold° fast° to themselves an evil° purpose°;
  They IItalk° of alaying° snares° secretly°;
  They say°, “bWho° can see° them?”
  6 They Idevise° injustices°, [saying],
  “We are IIready° with a well-conceived° plot°”;
  For the IIIainward° thought° and the heart° of a man° are IVdeep°.

  9 Then all° men° Iwill afear°,
  And they IIwill bdeclare° the work° of God°,
  And IIIwill consider° IVwhat° He has done°.
  10 The righteous° man° will be aglad° in the LORD° and will btake° refuge° in Him;
  And all° the upright° in heart° will glory°.

David prayeth for deliverance, complaining of his enemies.

1 ¶ [[To the chief Musician,ºª A Psalmº of David.]]º Hearºª my voice,º O God,º in my prayer:º preserveºª my lifeº from fearº² of the enemy.ºª 2 Hideºª me from the secret counselº² of the wicked;ºª from the insurrectionº² of the workersºª of iniquity:º 3 Who² whetºª their tongueº like a sword,º [and] bendºª [their bows to shoot] their arrows,º [even] bitterº words:º 4 That they may shootºª in secretº at the perfect:º suddenlyº do they shootºª at him, and fearºª not.² 5 They encourageºª themselves [in] an evilº matter:º they communeºª of laying¹ª snares¹ privily;ºª² they say,ºª Who² shall seeºª them? 6 They search outºª iniquities;º they accomplishºª a diligent¹ª search:º² both the inwardº [thought] of every oneº [of them], and the heart,º [is] deep.º

He promiseth himself to see such an evident destruction of his enemies, that the righteous shall rejoice at it.

7 But Godº shall shootºª at them [with] an arrow;º suddenlyº shall they be² wounded.º 8 So they shall make their own tongueº to fallºª upon² themselves: all² that seeºª them shall flee away.ºª 9 And all² menº shall fear,ºª and shall declareºª the workº of God;º for they shall wisely considerºª of his doing.º 10 The righteousº shall be gladºª in the LORD,º and shall trustºª in him; and all² the uprightº in heartº shall glory.ºª
