Prayer for the Punishment of the Wicked.

  1 Do you indeed° Ispeak° righteousness°, O IIgods°?
  Do you ajudge° IIIuprightly°, O sons° of men°?
  2 No°, in heart° you awork° unrighteousness°;
  On earth° you bweigh° out the violence° of your hands°.
  3 The wicked° are estranged° afrom the womb°;
  These who speak° lies° bgo° astray° from Ibirth°.
  4 They have venom° like° the avenom° of a serpent°;
  Like° a deaf° cobra° that stops° up its ear°,
  5 So° that it adoes not hear° the voice° of Ibcharmers°,
  [Or] a skillful° caster° of spells°.

David reproveth wicked judges,

describeth the nature of the wicked,

3 The wickedº are estrangedºª from the womb:º² they go astrayºª as soon as they be born,º² speakingºª lies.º 4 Their poisonº [is] likeº the poisonº of a serpent:º [they are] like² the deafº adderº [that] stoppethºª her ear;º 5 Which² will not² hearkenºª to the voiceº of charmers,ºª charmingººª never so wisely.ºª

6 Breakºª their teeth,º O God,º in their mouth:º break outºª the great teethº of the young lions,º O LORD.º 7 Let them melt awayºª as² watersº [which] run² continually:¹ª [when] he bendethºª [his bow to shoot] his arrows,º let them be as² cut in pieces.ºª 8 As² a snailº [which] melteth,º let [every one of them] pass away:ºª [like] the untimely birthº of a woman,º [that] they may not² seeºª the sun.º 9 Before² your potsº can feelºª the thorns,º he shall take them away as with a whirlwind,ºª both² living,º and in² [his] wrath.º

whereat the righteous shall rejoice.
