Bildad Speaks of the Wicked

1 Then Bildad° the Shuhite° Iresponded°°,
  2 “How° long° will you hunt°° for words°?
  Show° understanding° and then° we can talk°.
  3 “Why° are we aregarded° as beasts°,
  As stupid° in your eyes°?
  4 “O Iyou who tear° yourself° in your anger°
  For your sake° is the earth° to be abandoned°,
  Or the rock° to be moved° from its place°?

  5 ¶ “Indeed°, the alight° of the wicked° goes° out,
  And the Iflame° of his fire° gives° no° light°.
  6 “The light° in his tent° is adarkened°,
  And his lamp° goes° out above° him.
  7 “His Ivigorous° stride° is shortened°,
  And his aown scheme° brings° him down°.
  8 “For he is athrown° into the net° by his own feet°,
  And he steps° on the webbing°.
  9 “A snare° seizes° [him] by the heel°,
  [And] a trap° snaps° shut° on him.
  10 “A noose° for him is hidden° in the ground°,
  And a trap° for him on the path°.
  11 “All° around° aterrors° frighten° him,
  And bharry° him at every step°.
  12 “His strength° is afamished°,
  And calamity° is ready° at his side°.
  13IHis skin° is devoured° by disease°,
  The firstborn° of death° adevours° his IIlimbs°.
  14 “He is atorn° from Ithe security° of his tent°,
  And IIthey march° him before the king° of bterrors°.
  15IThere dwells° in his tent° nothing° of his;
  aBrimstone° is scattered° on his habitation°.
  16 “His aroots° are dried° below°°,
  And his bbranch° is cut° off° above°°.
  17aMemory° of him perishes° from the earth°,
  And he has no° name° abroad°°.
  18IHe is driven° from light° ainto darkness°,
  And bchased° from the inhabited° world°.
  19 “He has no° aoffspring° or posterity° among his people°,
  Nor° any survivor° where° he sojourned°.

Bildad reproveth Job of presumption and impatience.

The calamities of the wicked.

5 Yea,² the lightº of the wickedº shall be put out,ºª and the sparkº of his fireº shall not² shine.ºª 6 The lightº shall be darkºª in his tabernacle,º and his candleº shall be put outºª with² him. 7 The stepsº of his strengthº shall be straitened,ºª and his own counselº shall cast him down.ºª 8 For² he is castºª into a netº by his own feet,º and he walkethºª upon² a snare.º 9 The ginº shall takeºª [him] by the heel,º [and] the robberº shall prevailºª against² him. 10 The snareº [is] laidºª for him in the ground,º and a trapº for him in² the way.º 11 Terrorsº shall make him afraidºª on every side,º and shall driveºª him to his feet.º 12 His strengthº shall be² hungerbitten,º and destructionº [shall be] readyºª at his side.º 13 It shall devourºª the strengthº of his skin:º [even] the firstbornº of deathº shall devourºª his strength.º 14 His confidenceº shall be rooted outºª of his tabernacle,º² and it shall bringºª him to the kingº of terrors.º 15 It shall dwellºª in his tabernacle,º because [it is] noneº² of his: brimstoneº shall be scatteredºª upon² his habitation.º 16 His rootsº shall be dried upºª beneath,²² and aboveº² shall his branchº be cut off.ºª 17 His remembranceº shall perishºª from² the earth,º and he shall have no² nameº in² the street.ºº 18 He shall be drivenºª from lightº² into² darkness,º and chasedºª out of the world.º² 19 He shall neither² have sonº nor² nephewº among his people,º nor² any remainingº in his dwellings.º 20 They that come afterº [him] shall be astoniedºª at² his day,º as they that went beforeº were affrighted.º¹ª 21 Surely² such² [are] the dwellingsº of the wicked,º and this² [is] the placeº [of him that] knowethºª not² God.º
