  2 “Can you aput° a Irope° in his nose°
  Or pierce° his jaw° with a IIhook°?
  3 “Will he make° many° supplications° to you,
  Or° will he speak° to you soft° words°?
  4 “Will he make° a covenant° with you?
  Will you take° him for a servant° forever°?
5 “Will you play° with him as with a bird°,
Or will you bind° him for your maidens°?
  6 “Will the Itraders° bargain° over° him?
  Will they divide° him among° the merchants°?
  7 “Can you fill° his skin° with harpoons°,

  11 “Who° has Iagiven° to Me that I should repay° [him]?

Of God's great power in the leviathan.

1 ¶ Canst thou draw outºª leviathanº with an hook?º or his tongueº with a cordº [which] thou lettest down?ºª 2 Canst thou putºª an hookº into his nose?º or boreºª his jawº through with a thorn?º 3 Will he make manyºª supplicationsº unto² thee? will he speakºª softº [words] unto² thee? 4 Will he makeºª a covenantº with² thee? wilt thou takeºª him for a servantº for ever?º 5 Wilt thou playºª with him as [with] a bird?º or wilt thou bindºª him for thy maidens?º 6 Shall the companionsº make a banquet¹ª² of² him? shall they partºª him among² the merchants?º 7 Canst thou fillºª his skinº with barbed irons?º or his headº with fishº spears?º 8 Layºª thine handº upon² him, rememberºª the battle,º do no² more.ºª 9 Behold,² the hopeº of him is in vain:ºª shall not [one] be cast downºª even² at² the sightº of him? 10 None² [is so] fierceº that² dare stir him up:ºªªª who² then is able to standºª beforeº me? 11 Who² hath preventedºª me, that I should repayºª [him? whatsoever is] under² the whole² heavenº is mine. 12 I will not² concealºª his parts,¹² nor² his power,º¹ nor his comelyº proportion.º 13 Who² can discoverºª the faceº of his garment?º [or] who² can comeºª [to him] with his doubleº bridle?º 14 Who² can openºª the doorsº of his face?º his teethº [are] terribleº round about.º 15 [His] scalesºº [are his] pride,º shut up togetherºª [as with] a closeº seal.º 16 Oneº is so nearºª to another,º that no² airº can comeºª between² them. 17 They are joinedºª oneº to another,º they stick together,ºª that they cannot² be sundered.ºª 18 By his neesingsº a lightº doth shine,ºª and his eyesº [are] like the eyelidsº of the morning.º 19 Out of his mouthº² goºª burning lamps,º [and] sparksº of fireº leap out.ºª 20 Out of his nostrilsº² goethºª smoke,º as [out] of a seethingºª potº or caldron.º 21 His breathº kindlethºª coals,º and a flameº goeth outºª of his mouth.º² 22 In his neckº remainethºª strength,º and sorrowº is turned into joyºª beforeº him. 23 The flakesº of his fleshº are joined together:ºª they are firmºª in² themselves; they cannot² be moved.ºª 24 His heartº is as firmºª as² a stone;º yea, as hardºª as a pieceº of the netherº [millstone]. 25 When he raiseth upº² himself, the mighty¹² are afraid:ºª by reason of breakingsº² they purify¹ª themselves.² 26 The swordº of him that layethºª at him cannot² hold:ºª the spear,º the dart,º nor the habergeon.º 27 He esteemethºª ironº as straw,º [and] brassº as rottenº wood.º 28 The arrowºº cannot² make him flee:ºª slingstonesºº are turnedºª with him into stubble.º 29 Dartsº are countedºª as stubble:º he laughethºª at the shakingº of a spear.º 30 Sharpº stonesº [are] under² him: he spreadethºª sharp pointed thingsº upon² the mire.º 31 He maketh the deepº to boilºª like a pot:º he makethºª the seaº like a pot of ointment.º 32 He maketh a pathº to shineºª afterº him; [one] would thinkºª the deepº [to be] hoary.º 33 Upon² earthº there is not² his like,º who is madeºª withoutº fear.º 34 He beholdethºª² all² highº [things]: he² [is] a kingº over² all² the childrenº of pride.º
