1 The I aoracle° concerning bDamascus°.
  “Behold°, Damascus° is about to be cremoved° from being a city°
  And will become° a dfallen° ruin°.
  2 “The cities° Iof aAroer° are forsaken°;
  They will be for bflocks° IIto lie° down° in,
  And there° will be cno° one° to frighten° [them].
  3 “The I afortified° city° will disappear° from Ephraim°,
  And IIsovereignty° from Damascus°
  And the remnant° of Aram°;
  They will be like the bglory° of the sons° of Israel°,”
  Declares° the LORD° of hosts°.

  4 ¶ Now in that day° the aglory° of Jacob° will Ifade°,
  And bthe fatness° of his flesh° will become° lean°.
  5 It will be aeven like the Ireaper° gathering° the standing° grain°,
  As his arm° harvests° the ears°,
  Or it will be like one gleaning° ears° of grain°
  In the bvalley° of Rephaim°.
  6 Yet agleanings° will be left° in it like the Ishaking° of an olive° tree°,
  Two° [or] three° olives° on the topmost°° bough°,
  Four° [or] five° on the branches° of a fruitful° tree°,
  Declares° the LORD°, the God° of Israel°.
  7 In that day° man° will ahave° regard° for his Maker°
  And his eyes° will look° to the Holy° One° of Israel°.
  8 He will not have° regard° for the aaltars°, the work° of his hands°,
  Nor° will he look° to that which° his bfingers° have made°,
  Even the I cAsherim° and IIincense° stands°.
  9 In that day° Itheir strong° cities° will be like IIforsaken° places° in the forest°,
  Or like IIIbranches° which° they abandoned° before°° the sons° of Israel°;
  And IVthe land will be a desolation°.
  10 For ayou have forgotten° the bGod° of your salvation°
  And have not remembered° the crock° of your refuge°.
  Therefore°° you plant° delightful° plants°
  And set° them with vine° slips° of a strange° [god].
  11 In the day° that you plant° [it] you carefully° fence° [it] in,
  And in the amorning° you bring° your seed° to blossom°;
  [But] the harvest° will b[be] a heap°
  In a day° of sickliness° and incurable° pain°.

  aWho roar° like the roaring° of the seas°,

  But He will brebuke° them and they will flee° far° away°,
  And be chased° clike chaff° in the mountains° before° the wind°,
  Or like whirling° dust° before° a gale°.
  14 At evening° time°, behold°, [there is] terror°!
  Before° morning° athey are no° more°.
  ISuch° [will be] the portion° of those who plunder° us
  And the lot° of those who pillage° us.

A remnant shall forsake idolatry.

6 ¶ Yet gleaning grapesº shall be leftº ª in it, as the shakingº of an olive tree,º twoº [or] threeº berriesº in the topº of the uppermost bough,º fourº [or] fiveº in the outmost fruitfulº ª branchesº thereof, saithº ª the LORDº Godº of Israel.º 7 At that² dayº shall a manº lookº ª to² his Maker,º ª and his eyesº shall have respectº ª to² the Holy¹ One² of Israel.º 8 And he shall not² lookº ª to² the altars,º the workº of his hands,º neither² shall respectº ª [that] which² his fingersº have made,º ª either the groves,º or the images.º

The rest shall be plagued for their impiety.

9 ¶ In that² dayº shall his strongº citiesº be² as a forsakenº ª bough,º and an uppermost branch,º which² they leftº ª becauseº ² of the childrenº of Israel:º and there shall be² desolation.º 10 Because² thou hast forgottenº ª the Godº of thy salvation,º and hast not² been mindfulº ª of the rockº of thy strength,º therefore² ² shalt thou plantº ª pleasantº plants,º and shalt setº ª it with strangeº ª slips:º 11 In the dayº shalt thou make thy plantº to grow,º ª and in the morningº shalt thou make thy seedº to flourish:º ª [but] the harvestº [shall be] a heapº in the dayº of griefº ª and of desperateº ª sorrow.º

The woe of Israel's enemies.

12 ¶ Woeº to the multitudeº of manyº people,º [which] make a noiseº ª like the noiseº ª of the seas;º and to the rushingº of nations,º [that] make a rushing² like the rushing¹ ª ² of mightyº waters!º 13 The nationsº shall rushº ª like the rushingº of manyº waters:º but [God] shall rebukeº ª them, and they shall fleeº ª far off,º ² and shall be chasedº ª as the chaffº of the mountainsº beforeº the wind,º and like a rolling thingº beforeº the whirlwind.º 14 And behold² at eveningtideº º trouble;º [and] before² the morningº he [is] not.² This² [is] the portionº of them that spoilº ª us, and the lotº of them that robº ª us.
