The song of Deborah and Barak.

1 ¶ Then sangºª Deborahº and Barakº the sonº of Abinoamº on that² day,º saying,ºª 2 Praiseºª ye the LORDº for the avengingººª of Israel,º when the peopleº willingly offered¹ª themselves.² 3 Hear,ºª O ye kings;º give ear,ºª O ye princes;ºª I,² [even] I,² will singºª unto the LORD;º I will singºª [praise] to the LORDº Godº of Israel.º 4 LORD,º when thou wentest outºª of Seir,º² when thou marchedst² out¹ª of the fieldº² of Edom,º the earthº trembled,ºª and² the heavensº dropped,ºª the cloudsº also² droppedºª water.º 5 The mountainsº meltedºª from beforeº² the LORD,º [even] that² Sinaiº from beforeº² the LORDº Godº of Israel.º 6 In the daysº of Shamgarº the sonº of Anath,º in the daysº of Jael,º the highwaysº were unoccupied,ºª and the travellersºª² walked¹ª² through byways.º¹² 7 [The inhabitants of] the villagesº ceased,ºª they ceasedºª in Israel,º until that² I Deborahº arose,ºª² that I aroseºª a motherº in Israel.º 8 They choseºª newº gods;º then² [was] warº in the gates:º was there a shieldº or spearº seenºª among fortyº thousandº in Israel?º 9 My heartº [is] toward the governorsºª of Israel,º that offered themselves willinglyºª among the people.º Blessºª ye the LORD.º 10 Speak,ºª ye that rideºª on whiteº asses,º ye that sitºª in² judgment,º and walkºª by² the way.º 11 [They that are delivered] from the noiseº² of archersºª in² the places of drawing water,º there² shall they rehearseºª the righteous actsº of the LORD,º [even] the righteous actsº [toward the inhabitants] of his villagesº in Israel:º then² shall the peopleº of the LORDº go downºª to the gates.º 12 Awake,ºª awake,ºª Deborah:º awake,ºª awake,ºª utterºª a song:º arise,ºª Barak,º and lead thy captivity¹ captive,ºª² thou sonº of Abinoam.º 13 Then² he made him that remainethº have dominionºª over the noblesº among the people:º the LORDº made me have dominionºª over the mighty.º 14 Out of² Ephraimº [was there] a rootº of them against Amalek;º afterº thee, Benjamin,º among thy people;º out of² Machirº came downºª governors,ºª and out of Zebulunº² they that handleºª the penº of the writer.ºª 15 And the princesº of Issacharº [were] with² Deborah;º even Issachar,º and also² Barak:º he was sentºª on footº into the valley.º For the divisions¹² of Reubenº [there were] greatº thoughtsº of heart.º 16 Why² abodestºª thou amongº the sheepfolds,º to hearºª the bleatingsº of the flocks?º For the divisions¹² of Reubenº [there were] greatº searchingsº of heart.º 17 Gileadº abodeºª beyondº Jordan:º and why² did Danº remainºª in ships?º Asherº continuedºª on the seaº shore,º and abodeºª in² his breaches.º 18 Zebulunº and Naphtaliº [were] a peopleº [that] jeopardedºª their livesº unto the deathºª in² the high placesº of the field.º 19 The kingsº cameºª [and] fought,ºª then² foughtºª the kingsº of Canaanº in Taanachº by² the watersº of Megiddo;º they tookºª no² gain¹² of money.º 20 They foughtºª from² heaven;º the starsº in their coursesº² foughtºª against² Sisera.º 21 The riverº of Kishonº swept them away,ºª that ancientº river,º the riverº Kishon.º O my soul,º thou hast trodden downºª strength.º 22 Then² were the horsehoofsºº brokenºª by the means of the pransings,º² the pransingsº of their mighty ones.º 23 Curseºª ye Meroz,º saidºª the angelº of the LORD,º curse¹ª ye bitterlyºª the inhabitantsºª thereof; because² they cameºª not² to the helpº of the LORD,º to the helpº of the LORDº against the mighty.º 24 Blessedºª above womenº² shall Jaelº the wifeº of Heberº the Keniteº be, blessedºª shall she be above womenº² in the tent.º 25 He askedºª water,º [and] she gaveºª [him] milk;º she brought forthºª butterº in a lordlyº dish.º 26 She putºª her handº to the nail,º and her right handº to the workmen'sº hammer;º and with the hammer she smoteºª Sisera,º she smote offºª his head,º when she had piercedºª and stricken throughºª his temples.¹² 27 At² her feetº he bowed,ºª he fell,ºª he lay down:ºª at² her feetº he bowed,ºª he fell:ºª whereº he bowed,ºª there² he fell downºª dead.ºª 28 The motherº of Siseraº looked¹ª out² at² a window,º and criedºª through² the lattice,º Why² is² his chariotº [so] longºª in coming?ºª why² tarryºª the wheelsº of his chariots?º 29 Her wiseº ladiesº answeredºª her, yea,² she² returnedºª answerº to herself, 30 Have they not² sped?ºª have they [not] dividedºª the prey;º to everyº manº a damsel¹ [or] two;º¹ to Siseraº a preyº of divers colours,º a preyº of divers coloursº of needlework,º of divers coloursº of needlework² on both sides,¹ [meet] for the necksº of [them that take] the spoil?º 31 So² let all² thine enemiesºª perish,ºª O LORD:º but [let] them that loveºª him [be] as the sunº when he goeth forthºª in his might.º And the landº had restºª fortyº years.º
