Hannah’s Song of Thanksgiving

1 Then Hannah° aprayed° and said°,
  “My heart° exults° in the LORD°;
  bMy Ihorn° is exalted° in the LORD°,
  My mouth° IIspeaks° boldly° against° my enemies°,
  Because° cI rejoice° in Your salvation°.
  2aThere° is no° one° holy° like the LORD°,
  Indeed°, bthere° is no° one° besides° You,
  cNor° is there° any rock° like our God°.
  3IBoast°° no° more° so very° proudly°,
  aDo not let arrogance° come° out of your mouth°;
  bFor the LORD° is a God° of knowledge°,
  cAnd with Him actions° are weighed°.
  4aThe bows° of the mighty° are shattered°,
  bBut the feeble° gird° on strength°.
  5 “Those who were full° hire° themselves out for bread°,
  But those who were hungry° cease° [to hunger].
  aEven° the barren° gives° birth° to seven°,
  But bshe who has many° children° languishes°.
  6aThe LORD° kills° and makes° alive°;
  bHe brings° down° to ISheol° and raises° up.
  7aThe LORD° makes° poor° and rich°;
  bHe brings° low°, He also° exalts°.
  8aHe raises° the poor° from the dust°,
  bHe lifts° the needy° from the ash° heap°
  cTo make them sit° with nobles°,
  And inherit° a seat° of honor°;
  dFor the pillars° of the earth° are the LORDS°,
  And He set° the world° on them.
  9aHe keeps° the feet° of His godly° ones°,
  bBut the wicked° ones° are silenced° in darkness°;
  cFor not by might° shall a man° prevail°.
  10aThose who contend° with the LORD° will be shattered°;
  bAgainst° them He will thunder° in the heavens°,
  cThe LORD° will judge° the ends° of the earth°;
  dAnd He will give° strength° to His king°,
  eAnd will exalt° the Ihorn° of His anointed°.”

12 ¶ Now the sons° of Eli° were Iaworthless° men°; they did not know° the LORD° 13 aand the custom° of the priests° with the people°. A prophecy against Eli's house.

27 ¶ And there cameºª a manº of Godº unto² Eli,º and saidºª unto² him, Thus² saithºª the LORD,º Did I plainly¹ª appearºª unto² the houseº of thy father,º when they were² in Egyptº in Pharaoh'sº house?º 28 And did I chooseºª him out of all²² the tribesº of Israelº [to be] my priest,º to offerºª upon² mine altar,º to burnºª incense,º to wearºª an ephodº beforeº me? and did I giveºª unto the houseº of thy fatherº² all² the offerings made by fireº of the childrenº of Israel?º 29 Wherefore² kickºª ye at my sacrificeº and at mine offering,º which² I have commandedºª [in my] habitation;º and honourestºª² thy sonsº above² me, to make yourselves fatºª with the chiefestº² of all² the offeringsº of Israelº my people?º 30 Wherefore² the LORDº Godº of Israelº saith,ºª I saidºª indeedºª [that] thy house,º and the houseº of thy father,º should walkºª beforeº me for¹ ever:º² but now² the LORDº saith,ºª Be it far² from me;¹ for² them that honourºª me I will honour,ºª and they that despiseºª me shall be lightly esteemed.ºª 31 Behold,² the daysº come,ºª that I will cut offºª² thine arm,º and the armº of thy father'sº house,º that there shall not be²² an old manº in thine house.º 32 And thou shalt seeºª an enemyº [in my] habitation,º in all² [the wealth] which² [God] shall giveºª² Israel:º and there shall not² be² an old manº in thine houseº for ever.º² 33 And the manº of thine, [whom] I shall not² cut offºª from²² mine altar,º [shall be] to consumeºª² thine eyes,º and to grieveº² thine heart:º and all² the increaseº of thine houseº shall dieºª in the flower of their age.¹² 34 And this² [shall be] a signº unto thee, that² shall comeºª upon² thy twoº sons,º on² Hophniº and Phinehas;º in oneº dayº they shall dieºª bothº of them. 35 And I will raise me upºª a faithfulºª priest,º [that] shall doºª according to [that] which² [is] in mine heartº and in my mind:º and I will buildºª him a sureºª house;º and he shall walkºª beforeº mine anointedº for ever.º² 36 And it shall come to pass,² [that] every one² that is leftºª in thine houseº shall comeºª [and] crouchºª to him for a pieceº of silverº and a morselº of bread,º and shall say,ºª Putºª me, I pray thee,² into² oneº of the priests' offices,º that I may eatºª a pieceº of bread.º
