The desolation of Egypt and her helpers.1 ¶ The wordº of the LORDº came² again unto² me, saying,ºª 2 Sonº of man,º prophesyºª and say,ºª Thus² saithºª the Lordº GOD;º Howlºª ye, Woe² worth¹ the day!º 3 For² the dayº [is] near,º even the dayº of the LORDº [is] near,º a cloudyº day;º it shall be² the timeº of the heathen.º 4 And the swordº shall comeºª upon Egypt,º and great painº shall be² in Ethiopia,º when the slainº shall fallºª in Egypt,º and they shall take awayºª her multitude,º and her foundationsº shall be broken down.ºª 5 Ethiopia,º and Libya,º and Lydia,º and all² the mingled¹ people,² and Chub,º and the menº of the landº that is in league,º shall fallºª with² them by the sword.º 6 Thus² saithºª the LORD;º They also that upholdºª Egyptº shall fall;ºª and the prideº of her powerº shall come down:ºª from the towerº² of Syeneº shall they fallºª in it by the sword,º saithºª the Lordº GOD.º 7 And they shall be desolateºª in the midstº of the countriesº [that are] desolate,ºª and her citiesº shall be² in the midstº of the citiesº [that are] wasted.ºª 8 And they shall knowºª that² I² [am] the LORD,º when I have setºª a fireº in Egypt,º and [when] all² her helpersºª shall be destroyed.ºª 9 In that² dayº shall messengersº go forthºª from²² me¹ in shipsº to make² the carelessº Ethiopiansº afraid,ºª and great painº shall come² upon them, as in the dayº of Egypt:º for,² lo,² it cometh.ºª 10 Thus² saithºª the Lordº GOD;º I will also make² the multitudeº of Egyptº to ceaseºª by the handº of Nebuchadrezzarº kingº of Babylon.º 11 He² and his peopleº with² him, the terribleº of the nations,º shall be broughtºª to destroyºª the land:º and they shall drawºª their swordsº against² Egypt,º and fillºª² the landº with the slain.º 12 And I will makeºª the riversº dry,º and sellºª² the landº into the handº of the wicked:º and I will make the land¹ waste,ºª² and all that is therein,º by the handº of strangers:ºª I² the LORDº have spokenºª [it]. 13 Thus² saithºª the Lordº GOD;º I will also destroyºª the idols,º and I will cause [their] imagesº to ceaseºª out of Noph;º² and there shall be² no² more² a princeº of the landº² of Egypt:º and I will putºª a fearº in the landº of Egypt.º 14 And I will make Pathros¹ desolate,ºª²² and will setºª fireº in Zoan,º and will executeºª judgmentsº in No.º 15 And I will pourºª my furyº upon² Sin,º the strengthº of Egypt;º and I will cut offºª² the multitudeº of No.º 16 And I will setºª fireº in Egypt:º Sinº shall have great¹ª pain,ºª and Noº shall be² rent asunder,ºª and Nophº [shall have] distressesº daily.º 17 The young menº of Aven¹² and of Pibesethº shall fallºª by the sword:º and these² [cities] shall go¹ª² into captivity.º 18 At Tehaphnehesº also the dayº shall be darkened,ºª¹ª when I shall breakºª there²² the yokesº of Egypt:º and the pompº of her strengthº shall ceaseºª in her:¹ as for her,² a cloudº shall coverºª her, and her daughtersº shall go¹ª² into captivity.º 19 Thus will I executeºª judgmentsº in Egypt:º and they shall knowºª that² I² [am] the LORD.º [2] Is 13:6; 14:31; 15:2; 16:7; 23:1, 6; 65:14; Jr 4:8; 47:2; Ezk 21:12; Jol 1:5, 11; Zp 1:11; Zc 11:2; Jm 5:1; Rv 18:10.

The arm of Babylon shall be strengthened to break the arm of Egypt.20 ¶ And it came to pass² in the eleventhºº year,º in the firstº [month], in the seventhº [day] of the month,º [that] the wordº of the LORDº came² unto² me, saying,ºª 21 Sonº of man,º I have brokenºª² the armº of Pharaohº kingº of Egypt;º and, lo,² it shall not² be bound upºª to be healed,ººª to putºª a rollerº to bindºª it, to make it strongºª to holdºª the sword.º 22 Therefore² thus² saithºª the Lordº GOD;º Behold,² I [am] against² Pharaohº kingº of Egypt,º and will breakºª² his arms,º² the strong,º and that which was broken;ºª and I will cause² the swordº to fallºª out of his hand.º² 23 And I will scatterºª² the Egyptiansº among the nations,º and will disperseºª them through the countries.º 24 And I will strengthenºª² the armsº of the kingº of Babylon,º and putºª² my swordº in his hand:º but I will breakºª² Pharaoh'sº arms,º and he shall groanºª beforeº him with the groaningsº of a deadly woundedº [man]. 25 But I will strengthenºª² the armsº of the kingº of Babylon,º and the armsº of Pharaohº shall fall down;ºª and they shall knowºª that² I² [am] the LORD,º when I shall putºª my swordº into the handº of the kingº of Babylon,º and he shall stretch it outºª² upon² the landº of Egypt.º 26 And I will scatterºª² the Egyptiansº among the nations,º and disperseºª them among the countries;º and they shall knowºª that² I² [am] the LORD.º [20] Ezk 1:2; 26:1; 29:1, 17.
