The Fall of Tyre

1 The Ioracle° concerning aTyre°.
  Wail°, O bships° of cTarshish°,
  For [Tyre] is destroyed°, without° house° [or] IIdharbor°;
  It is reported° to them from the land° of IIIeCyprus°.
  2 aBe silent°, you inhabitants° of the coastland°,
  You merchants° of Sidon°;
  IYour messengers° crossed° the sea°
  3 And [were] on many° waters°.
  aThe grain° of the IbNile°, the harvest° of the River° was her revenue°;
  And she was the cmarket° of nations°.
  4 Be ashamed°, O aSidon°;
  For the sea° speaks°, the stronghold° of the sea°, saying°,
  “I have neither° travailed° nor° given° birth°,
  I have neither° brought° up young° men° [nor] reared° virgins°.”
  5 When° the report° [reaches] Egypt°,
  They will be in aanguish° at the report° of Tyre°.
  6 Pass° over° to aTarshish°;
  Wail°, O inhabitants° of the coastland°.
  7 Is this° your ajubilant° [city],
  Whose origin° is from antiquity°,
  Whose feet° used to carry° her to Icolonize° distant° places?

  14 Wail°, O aships° of Tarshish°,
  For your stronghold° is destroyed°.
15 Now in that day° Tyre° will be forgotten° for aseventy° years° like the days° of one° king°. At the end° of seventy° years° it will happen° to Tyre° as [in] the song° of the harlot°:
  16 Take° [your] harp°, walk° about° the city°,
  O forgotten° harlot°;
  Pluck° the strings° skillfully°, sing many° songs°,
  That you may be remembered°.
17 It will come° about at athe end° of seventy° years° that the LORD° will visit° Tyre°. Then she will go° back° to her harlot’s° wages° and will bplay° the harlot° with all° the kingdoms° Ion the face° of the earth°. 18 Her again° and her harlot’s° wages° will be bset° apart° to the LORD°; it will not be stored° up or hoarded°, but her gain° will become° sufficient° food° and choice° attire° for those who dwell° in the presence° of the LORD°.

The miserable overthrow of Tyre.

1 ¶ The burdenº of Tyre.º Howl,ºª ye shipsº of Tarshish;º for² it is laid waste,ºª so that there is no house,º² no entering in:ºª² from the landº² of Chittimº it is revealedºª to them. 2 Be still,ºª ye inhabitantsºª of the isle;º thou whom the merchantsºª of Zidon,º that pass overºª the sea,º have replenished.ºª 3 And by greatº watersº the seedº of Sihor,º the harvestº of the river,º [is] her revenue;º and she is² a martº of nations.º 4 Be thou ashamed,ºª O Zidon:º for² the seaº hath spoken,ºª [even] the strengthº of the sea,º saying,ºª I travailºª not,² nor² bring forth children,ºª neither² do I nourish upºª young men,º [nor] bring upºª virgins.º 5 As² at the reportº concerning Egypt,º [so] shall they be sorely painedºª at the reportº of Tyre.º 6 Pass ye overºª to Tarshish;º howl,ºª ye inhabitantsºª of the isle.º 7 [Is] this² your joyousº [city], whose antiquityº [is] of ancientº days?º² her own feetº shall carryºª her afar offº² to sojourn.ºª 8 Who² hath taken this counselºª² against² Tyre,º the crowningºª [city], whose² merchantsºª [are] princes,º whose traffickers¹² [are] the honourableºª of the earth?º 9 The LORDº of hostsº hath purposedºª it, to stainºª the prideº of all² glory,º [and] to bring into contemptºª all² the honourableºª of the earth.º 10 Pass¹ª through² thy landº as a river,º O daughterº of Tarshish:º [there is] no² more² strength.º 11 He stretched outºª his handº over² the sea,º he shookºª the kingdoms:º the LORDº hath given a commandmentºª against² the merchantº [city], to destroyºª the strong¹ holdsº thereof. 12 And he said,ºª Thou shalt no² more¹ª² rejoice,ºª O thou oppressedºª virgin,º daughterº of Zidon:º arise,ºª pass overºª to Chittim;º there² also² shalt thou have no rest.ºª² 13 Behold² the landº of the Chaldeans;º this² peopleº was² not,² [till] the Assyrianº foundedºª it for them that dwell in the wilderness:º they set upºª the towersº thereof, they raised upºª the palacesº thereof; [and] he broughtºª it to ruin.º 14 Howl,ºª ye shipsº of Tarshish:º for² your strengthº is laid waste.ºª 15 And it shall come to pass² in that² day,º that Tyreº shall be forgottenºª seventyº years,º according to the daysº of oneº king:º after the endº² of seventyº yearsº shall Tyreº singº as an harlot.ºª 16 Takeºª an harp,º go aboutºª the city,º thou harlotºª that hast been forgotten;ºª make sweetºª melody,ºª sing manyºª songs,º that² thou mayest be remembered.ºª
