General observations of impiety and religious integrity.

1 ¶ The wickedº fleeºª when no² man pursueth:ºª but the righteousº are boldºª as a lion.º 2 For the transgressionº of a landº manyº [are] the princesº thereof: but by a manº of understandingºª [and] knowledgeºª the stateº [thereof] shall be prolonged.ºª 3 A poorºª manº that oppressethºª the poorº [is like] a sweepingºª rainº which leaveth no² food.º 4 They that forsakeºª the lawº praiseºª the wicked:º but such as keepºª the lawº contendºª with them. 5 Evilº men¹² understandºª not² judgment:º but they that seekºª the LORDº understandºª all² [things]. 6 Betterº [is] the poorºª that walkethºª in his uprightness,º than [he that is] perverseº² [in his] ways,º though he² [be] rich.º 7 Whoso keepethºª the lawº [is] a wiseºª son:º but he that is a companionºª of riotousºª [men] shamethºª his father.º 8 He that by usuryº and unjust gainº increasethºª his substance,º he shall gatherºª it for him that will pityºª the poor.º 9 He that turneth awayºª his earº from hearingºª² the law,º even² his prayerº [shall be] abomination.º 10 Whoso causeth the righteousº to go astrayºª in an evilº way,º he shall fallºª himself² into his own pit:º but the uprightº shall have goodº [things] in possession.ºª 11 The richº manº [is] wiseº in his own conceit;º but the poorº that hath understandingºª searcheth him out.ºª 12 When righteousº [men] do rejoice,ºª [there is] greatº glory:º but when the wickedº rise,ºª a manº is hidden.ºª 13 He that coverethºª his sinsº shall not² prosper:ºª but whoso confessethºª and forsakethºª [them] shall have mercy.ºª 14 Happyº [is] the manº that fearethºª alway:º but he that hardenethºª his heartº shall fallºª into mischief.º 15 [As] a roaringºª lion,º and a rangingºª bear;º [so is] a wickedº rulerºª over² the poorº people.º 16 The princeº that wantethº understandingº [is] also a greatº oppressor:º [but] he that hatethºª covetousnessº shall prolongºª [his] days.º 17 A manº that doeth violenceºª to the bloodº of [any] personº shall fleeºª to² the pit;º let no² man stayºª him. 18 Whoso walkethºª uprightlyº shall be saved:ºª but [he that is] perverseºª [in his] waysº shall fallºª at once.º 19 He that tillethºª his landº shall have plentyºª of bread:º but he that followethºª after vainº [persons] shall have poverty² enough.¹² 20 A faithfulº manº shall aboundº with blessings:º but he that maketh hasteºª to be richºª shall not² be innocent.ºª 21 To have respectºª of personsº [is] not² good:º for for² a pieceº of breadº [that] manº will transgress.ºª 22 Heº that hastethºª to be richº [hath] an evilº eye,º and considerethºª not² that² povertyº shall come¹ª upon² him. 23 He that rebukethºª a manº afterwardsº shall findºª more favourº than he that flatterethºª² with the tongue.º 24 Whoso robbethºª his fatherº or his mother,º and saith,ºª [It is] no² transgression;º the same² [is] the companionº of a destroyer.ººª 25 He that is of a proudº heartº stirreth upºª strife:º but he that putteth his trustºª in² the LORDº shall be made fat.ºª 26 He² that trustethºª in his own heartº is a fool:º but whoso walkethºª wisely,º he² shall be delivered.ºª 27 He that givethºª unto the poorºª shall not² lack:º but he that hidethºª his eyesº shall have manyº a curse.º 28 When the wickedº rise,ºª menº hide¹ª themselves:² but when they perish,ºª the righteousº increase.ºª
