Elihu in Anger Rebukes Job

1 Then these° three° men° ceased° answering° Job°, because° he was arighteous° in his own eyes°. 2 But the anger° of Elihu° the son° of Barachel° the aBuzite°, of the family° of Ram° burned°; against Job° his anger° burned° bbecause° he justified° himself° Icbefore° God°. 3 And his anger° burned° against his three° friends° because°° they had found° no° answer°, and yet had condemned° Job°. 4 Now Elihu° had waited° Ito speak° to Job° because° they were years° older° than° he. 5 And when Elihu° saw° that there° was no° answer° in the mouth° of the three° men° his anger° burned°.

  8 “But it is a spirit° in man°,
  And the abreath° of the Almighty° gives° them bunderstanding°.
  9 “The Iabundant° [in years] may not be wise°,
  Nor° may aelders° understand° justice°.
  10 “So° I Isay°, ‘Listen° to me,
  I too° will tell° IIwhat° I think°.’

  ‘aWe have found° wisdom°;
  God° will Irout° him, not man°.’
  14 “For he has not arranged° [his] words° against° me,
  Nor° will I reply° to him with your Iarguments°.

  21 “Let me now° abe partial°° to no° one°,
  Nor° flatter° [any] man°.
  22 “For I do not know° how to flatter°,
  [Else] my Maker° would soon° take° me away.

Elihu is angry with Job and his three friends.

Because wisdom cometh not from age, he excuseth the boldness of his youth.

6 And Elihuº the sonº of Barachelº the Buziteº answeredºª and said,ºª I² [am] young,º¹ and ye² [are] very old;º² wherefore²² I was afraid,ºª and durstºª not shewºª² you mine opinion.º 7 I said,ºª Daysº should speak,ºª and multitudeº of yearsº should teachºª wisdom.º 8 Butº [there is] a spiritº in man:º and the inspirationº of the Almightyº giveth them understanding.ºª 9 Great² men¹ are not² [always] wise:ºª neither do the agedº understandºª judgment.º 10 Therefore² I said,ºª Hearkenºª to me; I² also² will shewºª mine opinion.º

11 Behold,² I waitedºª for your words;º I gave earºª to² your reasons,º whilst² ye searched outºª what to say.º 12 Yea, I attendedºª unto² you, and, behold,² [there was] none² of² you that convincedºª Job,º [or] that answeredºª his words:º 13 Lest² ye should say,ºª We have found outºª wisdom:º Godº thrusteth him down,ºª not² man.º 14 Now he hath not² directedºª [his] wordsº against² me: neither² will I answerºª him with your speeches.º 15 They were amazed,ºª they answeredºª no² more:² they left offºª² speaking.º

16 When I had waited,ºª (for² they spakeºª not,² but² stood still,ºª [and] answeredºª no² more;)² 17 [I said], I² will answerºª also² my part,º I² also² will shewºª mine opinion.º 18 For² I am fullºª of matter,º the spiritº withinº me constrainethºª me. 19 Behold,² my bellyº [is] as wineº [which] hath no² vent;ºª it is ready to burstºª like newº bottles.º 20 I will speak,ºª that I may be refreshed:ºª I will openºª my lipsº and answer.ºª 21 Let me not,² I pray you,² acceptºª any man'sº person,º neither² let me give flattering titlesºª unto² man.º 22 For² I knowºª not² to give flattering titles;ºª [in so doing] my makerºª would soonº take me away.ºª
