The harm of inconsideration.

1 ¶ Callºª now,² if there beº any that will answerºª thee; and to² which² of the saintsº² wilt thou turn?ºª 2 For² wrathº killethºª the foolish² man,¹ and envyº slayethºª the silly² one.¹ª

[1] Dt 33:2; Jb 4:18; 15:8, 15; Ps 16:3; 106:16; Is 41:1, 21; Ep 1:1; He 12:1.

The end of the wicked is misery.

3 I² have seenºª the foolishº taking root:ºª but suddenlyº I cursedºª his habitation.º 4 His childrenº are farºª from safety,º² and they are crushedºª in the gate,º neither² [is there] any to deliverºª [them]. 5 Whose² harvestº the hungryº eateth up,ºª and takethºª it even out¹ of² the thorns,º² and the robberº swalloweth upºª their substance.º

[3] Dt 27:15; Jb 27:8; Ps 37:35; 69:25; 73:3, 18; 92:7; Jr 12:1; Ac 1:20.

God is to be regarded in affliction.

6 Although² afflictionº cometh not forthºª² of the dust,º² neither² doth troubleº spring² out¹ª of the ground;º² 7 Yet² manº is bornºª unto trouble,º as the sparksºº flyºª upward.ºª 8 I² would seekº¹ª unto² God,º and unto² Godº would I commitºª my cause:º 9 Which doethºª great thingsº and unsearchable;ºº marvellous thingsºª without²² number:º 10 Who givethºª rainº uponº² the earth,º and sendethºª watersº uponº² the fields:º 11 To set upºª on highº those that be low;º that those which mournºª may be exaltedºª to safety.º 12 He disappointethºª the devicesº of the crafty,º so that their handsº cannot² performºª [their] enterprise.º 13 He takethºª the wiseº in their own craftiness:º and the counselº of the frowardºª is carried headlong.ºª 14 They meetºª with darknessº in the daytime,º and gropeºª in the noondayº as in the night.º 15 But he savethºª the poorº from the sword,º² from their mouth,º² and from the handº² of the mighty.º 16 So the poorº hath² hope,º and iniquityº stoppethºª her mouth.º

The happy end of God's correction.

17 Behold,² happyº [is] the manº whom Godº correcteth:ºª therefore despiseºª not² thou the chasteningº of the Almighty:º 18 For² he² maketh sore,ºª and bindeth up:ºª he woundeth,ºª and his handsº make whole.ºª 19 He shall deliverºª thee in sixº troubles:º yea, in sevenº there shall no² evilº touchºª thee. 20 In famineº he shall redeemºª thee from death:º² and in warº from the powerº² of the sword.º 21 Thou shalt be hidºª from the scourgeº of the tongue:º neither² shalt thou be afraidºª of destructionº² when² it cometh.ºª 22 At destructionº and famineº thou shalt laugh:ºª neither² shalt thou be afraidºª of the beastsº² of the earth.º 23 For² thou shalt be in leagueº with² the stonesº of the field:º and the beastsº of the fieldº shall be at peaceºª with thee. 24 And thou shalt knowºª that thy tabernacleº [shall be] in peace;º and thou shalt visitºª thy habitation,º and shalt not sin.ºª² 25 Thou shalt knowºª also that² thy seedº [shall be] great,º and thine offspringº as the grassº of the earth.º 26 Thou shalt comeºª to² [thy] graveº in a full age,º like as a shock of cornº cometh inºª in his season.º 27 Lo² this,² we have searchedºª it, so² it² [is]; hearºª it, and knowºª thou² [it] for thy good.
