So I will cgive° over all° Judah° to the hand° of the king° of Babylon°, and he will carry° them away° as dexiles° to Babylon° and will slay° them with the sword°. 5 I will also give° over all° the awealth° of this° city°, all° its produce° and all° its costly° things°; even all° the treasures° of the kings° of Judah° I will give° over to the bhand° of their enemies°, and they will plunder° them, take° them away and bring° them to Babylon°. 6 And you, aPashhur°, and all° who live° in your house° will go° into captivity°; and you will enter° Babylon°, and there° you will die° and there° you will be buried°, you and all° your bfriends° to whom° you have cfalsely° prophesied°.’”

Jeremiah’s Complaint

  7 ¶ O LORD°, You have deceived° me and I was deceived°;
  You have aovercome° me and prevailed°.
  I have become° a blaughingstock° all° day° long;
  Everyone° cmocks° me.
  8 For each° time° I speak°, I cry° aloud°;
  I aproclaim° violence° and destruction°,
  Because° for me the bword° of the LORD° has Iresulted°
  In reproach° and derision° all° day° long.
  9 But if I say°, “I will not aremember° Him
  Or speak° anymore° in His name°,”
  Then in bmy heart° it becomes° like a burning° fire°
  Shut° up in my bones°;
  And I am weary° of holding° [it] in,
  And cI cannot° endure° [it].
  10 For aI have heard° the whispering° of many°,
  “bTerror° on every° side°!
  cDenounce° [him]; yes, let us denounce° him!”
  IAll° my dtrusted° friends°°,
  Watching° for my fall°, say:
  “Perhaps° he will be IIdeceived°, so that we may eprevail° against him
  And take° our revenge° on him.”
  11 But the aLORD° is with me like a dread° champion°;
  Therefore°° my bpersecutors° will stumble° and not prevail°.
  They will be utterly° ashamed°, because° they have Ifailed°°,
  With an ceverlasting° disgrace° that will not be forgotten°.
  12 Yet, O LORD° of hosts°, You who atest° the righteous°,
  Who see° the Imind° and the heart°;
  Let me bsee° Your vengeance° on them;
  For cto You I have set° forth° my cause°.
  13 aSing° to the LORD°, praise° the LORD°!
  For He has bdelivered° the soul° of the needy° one°
  From the hand° of evildoers°.

Pashur, smiting Jeremiah, receiveth a new name, and a fearful doom.

1 ¶ Now Pashurº the sonº of Immerº the priest,º who² [was] also chief¹² governor¹² in the houseº of the LORD,º heardºª that² Jeremiahº prophesiedºª² these² things.º 2 Then Pashurº smoteºª² Jeremiahº the prophet,º and putºª him in² the stocksº that² [were] in the highº gateº of Benjamin,º which² [was] by the houseº of the LORD.º 3 And it came to pass² on the morrow,º² that Pashurº brought forthºª² Jeremiahº out of² the stocks.º Then saidºª Jeremiahº unto² him, The LORDº hath not² calledºª thy nameº Pashur,º but²² Magormissabib.º 4 For² thus² saithºª the LORD,º Behold,² I will makeºª thee a terrorº to thyself, and to all² thy friends:ºª and they shall fallºª by the swordº of their enemies,ºª and thine eyesº shall beholdºª [it]: and I will giveºª all² Judahº into the handº of the kingº of Babylon,º and he shall carry them captiveºª into Babylon,º and shall slayºª them with the sword.º 5 Moreover I will deliverºª² all² the strengthº of this² city,º and all² the laboursº thereof, and all² the precious thingsº thereof, and all² the treasuresº of the kingsº of Judahº will I giveºª into the handº of their enemies,ºª which shall spoilºª them, and takeºª them, and carryºª them to Babylon.º 6 And thou,² Pashur,º and all² that dwellºª in thine houseº shall go¹ª² into captivity:º and thou shalt comeºª to Babylon,º and there² thou shalt die,ºª and shalt be buriedºª there,² thou,² and all² thy friends,ºª to whom² thou hast prophesiedºª lies.º

Jeremiah complaineth of contempt,

7 ¶ O LORD,º thou hast deceivedºª me, and I was deceived:ºª thou art strongerºª than I, and hast prevailed:ºª I am² in derisionº daily,º² every one² mockethºª me. 8 For² sinceº² I spake,ºª I cried out,ºª I criedºª violenceº and spoil;º because² the wordº of the LORDº was made² a reproachº unto me, and a derision,º daily.º² 9 Then I said,ºª I will not² make mentionºª of him, nor² speakºª any more² in his name.º But [his word] was² in mine heartº as a burningºª fireº shut upºª in my bones,º and I was wearyºª with forbearing,ºª and I couldºª not² [stay].
