Prayer for Defense against Enemies.

For the choir director; on stringed instruments. A Maskil of David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, “Is not David hiding himself among us?”

  1 Save° me, O God°, by aYour name°,
  And Ivindicate° me by bYour power°.
  2 aHear° my prayer°, O God°;
  bGive° ear° to the words° of my mouth°.
  3 For strangers° have arisen° against° me
  And bviolent° men° have csought° my Ilife°;
  They have dnot set° God° before° them.

David, complaining of the Ziphims, prayeth for salvation.

1 ¶ [[To the chief Musicianºª on Neginoth,º Maschil,ºª [A Psalm] of David,º when the Ziphimsº cameºª and saidºª to Saul,º Doth not² Davidº hide¹ª himself² with² us?]] Saveºª me, O God,º by thy name,º and judgeºª me by thy strength.º 2 Hearºª my prayer,º O God;º give earºª to the wordsº of my mouth.º 3 For² strangersºª are risen upºª against² me, and oppressorsº seek¹ª after² my soul:º they have not² setºª Godº before² them. Selah.º
