Jehoiakim, first subdued by Nebuchadnezzar, then rebelleth against him, procureth his own ruin.

1 ¶ In his daysº Nebuchadnezzarº kingº of Babylonº came up,ºª and Jehoiakimº became² his servantº threeº years:º then he turnedºª and rebelledºª against him. 2 And the LORDº sentºª against him² bandsº of the Chaldees,º and bandsº of the Syrians,º and bandsº of the Moabites,º and bandsº of the childrenº of Ammon,º and sentºª them against Judahº to destroyºª it, according to the wordº of the LORD,º which² he spakeºª byº his servantsº the prophets.º 3 Surely² at² the commandmentº of the LORDº came² [this] upon Judah,º to removeºª [them] out of²² his sight,º for the sinsº of Manasseh,º according to all² that² he did;ºª 4 And also² for the innocentº bloodº that² he shed:ºª for he filledºª² Jerusalemº with innocentº blood;º which the LORDº wouldºª not² pardon.ºª

5 ¶ Now the restº of the actsº of Jehoiakim,º and all² that² he did,ºª [are] they² not² writtenºª in² the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Judah?º

Jehoiachin succeedeth him.

6 So Jehoiakimº sleptºª with² his fathers:º and Jehoiachinº his sonº reignedºª in his stead.²

The king of Egypt is vanquished by the king of Babylon.

7 And the kingº of Egyptº cameºª not² againºª any more² out of his land:º² for² the kingº of Babylonº had takenºª from the river¹²² of Egyptº unto² the river¹²² Euphratesº all² that² pertained² to the kingº of Egypt.º

Jehoiachin's evil reign.

8 ¶ Jehoiachinº [was] eighteenºº yearsº oldº when he began to reign,ºª and he reignedºª in Jerusalemº threeº months.º And his mother'sº nameº [was] Nehushta,º the daughterº of Elnathanº of Jerusalem.º² 9 And he didºª [that which was] evilº in the sightº of the LORD,º according to all² that² his fatherº had done.ºª

Jerusalem is taken and carried captive into Babylon.

10 ¶ At that² timeº the servantsº of Nebuchadnezzarº kingº of Babylonº came upºª against Jerusalem,º and the cityº was besieged.ººª 11 And Nebuchadnezzarº kingº of Babylonº cameºª against² the city,º and his servantsº did besiegeºª² it. 12 And Jehoiachinº the kingº of Judahº went outºª to² the kingº of Babylon,º he,² and his mother,º and his servants,º and his princes,º and his officers:º and the kingº of Babylonº tookºª him in the eighthº yearº of his reign.ºª 13 And he carried outºª thence²²² all² the treasuresº of the houseº of the LORD,º and the treasuresº of the king'sº house,º and cut in piecesºª² all² the vesselsº of goldº which² Solomonº kingº of Israelº had madeºª in the templeº of the LORD,º as² the LORDº had said.ºª 14 And he carried awayºª² all² Jerusalem,º and all² the princes,º and all² the mighty menº of valour,º [even] tenº thousandº captives,ºª and all² the craftsmenº and smiths:º none² remained,ºª saveº the poorest sortº of the peopleº of the land.º 15 And he carried awayºª² Jehoiachinº to Babylon,º and the king'sº mother,º and the king'sº wives,º and his officers,º and the mightyºª¹ of the land,º [those] carried¹ª² he into captivityº from Jerusalemº² to Babylon.º 16 And all² the men¹² of might,º [even] sevenº thousand,º and craftsmenº and smithsº a thousand,º all² [that were] strongº [and] aptºª for war,º even them the kingº of Babylonº broughtºª captiveº to Babylon.º

Zedekiah is made king, and reigneth ill unto the utter destruction of Judah.

17 ¶ And the kingº of Babylonº made²² Mattaniahº his father's brotherº kingºª in his stead,² and changedºª² his nameº to Zedekiah.º 18 Zedekiahº [was] twentyº and oneº yearsº oldº when he began to reign,ºª and he reignedºª elevenºº yearsº in Jerusalem.º And his mother'sº nameº [was] Hamutal,º the daughterº of Jeremiahº of Libnah.º² 19 And he didºª [that which was] evilº in the sightº of the LORD,º according to all² that² Jehoiakimº had done.ºª 20 For² through² the angerº of the LORDº it came to pass² in Jerusalemº and Judah,º until² he had cast them outºª² from²² his presence,º that Zedekiahº rebelledºª against the kingº of Babylon.º
