NASB — Jeremiah 13 — KJV

The Ruined Waistband

1 Thus° the LORD° said° to me, “Go° and abuy° yourself a linen° waistband° and put° it around° your waist°, but do not put° it in water°.” 2 So I bought° the waistband° in accordance with the aword° of the LORD° and put° it around° my waist°. 3 Then the word° of the LORD° came° to me a second° time°, saying°, 4 “Take° the waistband° that you have bought°, which° is around° your waist°, and arise°, go° to Ithe aEuphrates° and hide° it there° in a crevice° of the rock°.” 5 So I went° and hid° it by the Euphrates°, aas the LORD° had commanded° me. 6 After° many° days° the LORD° said° to me, “Arise°, go° to the Euphrates° and take° from there° the waistband° which° I commanded° you to hide° there°.” 7 Then I went° to the Euphrates° and dug°, and I took° the waistband° from the place° where°° I had hidden° it; and lo°, the waistband° was ruined°, it was totally° worthless°°.

In the type of a linen girdle, hidden at Euphrates, God prefigureth the destruction of his people.

1 ¶ Thus² saithºª the LORDº unto² me, Goºª and getºª thee a linenº girdle,º and putºª it upon² thy loins,º and putºª it not² in water.º 2 So I gotºª² a girdleº according to the wordº of the LORD,º and putºª [it] on² my loins.º 3 And the wordº of the LORDº came² unto² me the second time,º saying,ºª 4 Takeºª² the girdleº that² thou hast got,ºª which² [is] upon² thy loins,º and arise,ºª go¹ª² to Euphrates,º and hideºª it there² in a holeº of the rock.º 5 So I went,¹ª² and hidºª it by Euphrates,º as² the LORDº commandedºª me. 6 And it came to pass² afterº² manyº days,º that the LORDº saidºª unto² me, Arise,ºª go¹ª² to Euphrates,º and takeºª² the girdleº from thence,²² which² I commandedºª thee to hideºª there.² 7 Then I went¹ª² to Euphrates,º and digged,ºª and tookºª² the girdleº from² the placeº where²² I had hidºª it: and, behold,² the girdleº was marred,ºª it was profitableºª for nothing.²² 8 Then the wordº of the LORDº came² unto² me, saying,ºª 9 Thus² saithºª the LORD,º After this manner² will I marºª the prideº of Judah,º and the greatº prideº of Jerusalem.º 10 This² evilº people,º which refuseº to hearºª² my words,º which walkºª in the imaginationº of their heart,º and walk¹ª² afterº otherº gods,º to serveºª them, and to worshipºª them, shall even be² as this² girdle,º which² is goodºª for nothing.²² 11 For² as² the girdleº cleavethºª to² the loinsº of a man,º so² have I caused to cleaveºª unto² me² the whole² houseº of Israelº and the whole² houseº of Judah,º saithºª the LORD;º that they might be² unto me for a people,º and for a name,º and for a praise,º and for a glory:º but they would not² hear.ºª
