1 Thus° says° the LORD°,
  “For three° transgressions° of aMoab° and for four°
  I will not Irevoke° its [punishment],
  Because° he bburned° the bones° of the king° of Edom° to lime°.
  2 “So I will send° fire° upon Moab°
  And it will consume° the citadels° of aKerioth°;
  And Moab° will die° amid btumult°,
  With Iwar° cries° and the sound° of a trumpet°.
  3 “I will also cut° off° the Iajudge° from her midst°
  And slay° all° her bprinces° with him,” says° the LORD°.

  In order° to profane° My holy° name°.
  8 “On garments° ataken° as pledges° they stretch° out beside° bevery° altar°,
  And in the house° of their God° they cdrink° the wine° of those who have been fined°.

  10 “It was I who abrought° you up from the land° of Egypt°,
  And I led° you in the wilderness° bforty° years°
  IThat you might take° possession° of the land° of the cAmorite°.
  11 “Then I araised° up some° of your sons° to be prophets°
  And some° of your young° men° to be bNazirites°.
  Is this° not so°, O sons° of Israel°?” declares° the LORD°.
  12 “But you made the Nazirites° drink° wine°,
  And you commanded° the prophets° saying°, ‘You ashall not prophesy°!’
  13 “Behold°, I am Iaweighted° down° beneath° you
  As a wagon° IIis weighted° down° when filled° with sheaves°.
  14IaFlight° will perish° from the swift°,
  And the stalwart° will not strengthen° his power°,
  Nor° the bmighty° man° save° his IIlife°.
  15 “He who agrasps° the bow° will not stand° [his ground],
  The swift° of foot° will not escape°,
  Nor° will he who rides° the bhorse° save° his Ilife°.
  16 “Even the Ibravest°° among the warriors° will aflee° naked° in that day°,” declares° the LORD°.

God's wrath against Moab,

6 ¶ Thus² saithºª the LORD;º For² threeº transgressionsº of Israel,º and for² four,º I will not² turn awayºª [the punishment] thereof; because² they soldºª the righteousº for silver,º and the poorº for² a pair of shoes;º 7 That pantºª after² the dustº of the earthº on the headº of the poor,º and turn asideºª the wayº of the meek:º and a manº and his fatherº will go¹ª in² unto² the [same] maid,º to² profaneºª² my holyº name:º 8 And they lay [themselves] downºª upon² clothesº laid to pledgeºª byº every² altar,º and they drinkºª the wineº of the condemnedºª [in] the houseº of their god.º

God complaineth of their unfaithfulness.

9 ¶ Yet destroyedºª I²² the Amoriteº beforeº² them, whose² heightº [was] like the heightº of the cedars,º and he² [was] strongº as the oaks;º yet I destroyedºª his fruitº from above,º² and his rootsº from beneath.²² 10 Also I² brought you upºª² from the landº² of Egypt,º and led¹ª² you fortyº yearsº through the wilderness,º to possessºª² the landº of the Amorite.º 11 And I raised upºª of your sonsº² for prophets,º and of your young menº² for Nazarites.º [Is it] not² even² thus,² O ye childrenº of Israel?º saithºª the LORD.º 12 But ye gave² the Nazaritesº wineº to drink;ºª and commandedºª the prophets,º saying,ºª Prophesyºª not.² 13 Behold,² I² am pressedºª under² you, as² a cartº is pressedºª [that is] full¹ of² sheaves.º 14 Therefore the flightº shall perishºª from the swift,º² and the strongº shall not² strengthenºª his force,º neither² shall the mightyº deliverºª himself:º 15 Neither² shall he standºª that handlethºª the bow;º and [he that is] swiftº of footº shall not² deliverºª [himself]: neither² shall he that ridethºª the horseº deliverºª himself.º 16 And [he that is] courageousºº among the mightyº shall flee awayºª nakedº in that² day,º saithºª the LORD.º
