The Sabbath of the seventh year.

1 ¶ And the LORDº spakeºª unto² Mosesº in mountº Sinai,º saying,ºª 2 Speakºª unto² the childrenº of Israel,º and sayºª unto² them, When² ye comeºª into² the landº which² I² giveºª you, then shall the landº keepºª a sabbathº unto the LORD.º 3 Sixº yearsº thou shalt sowºª thy field,º and sixº yearsº thou shalt pruneºª thy vineyard,º and gather¹ª in²² the fruitº thereof; 4 But in the seventhº yearº shall be² a sabbathº of restº unto the land,º a sabbathº for the LORD:º thou shalt neither² sowºª thy field,º nor² pruneºª thy vineyard.º 5 ² That which groweth of its own accordº of thy harvestº thou shalt not² reap,ºª neither² gatherºª the grapesº of thy vine undressed:º [for] it is² a yearº of restº unto the land.º 6 And the sabbathº of the landº shall be² meatº for you; for thee, and for thy servant,º and for thy maid,º and for thy hired servant,º and for thy strangerº that sojournethºª with² thee, 7 And for thy cattle,º and for the beastº that² [are] in thy land,º shall all² the increaseº thereof be² meat.ºª

The jubile in the fiftieth year.

8 ¶ And thou shalt numberºª sevenº sabbathsº of yearsº unto thee, sevenº timesº sevenº years;º and the spaceº of the sevenº sabbathsº of yearsº shall be² unto thee fortyº and nineº years.º 9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpetº of the jubileº to soundºª on the tenthº [day] of the seventhº month,º in the dayº of atonementº shall ye make the trumpetº soundºª throughout all² your land.º 10 And ye shall hallowºª² the fiftiethº¹ year,º and proclaimºª libertyº throughout [all] the landº unto all² the inhabitantsºª thereof: it² shall be² a jubileº unto you; and ye shall returnºª every manº unto² his possession,º and ye shall returnºª every manº unto² his family.º 11 A jubileº shall that² fiftiethº¹ yearº be² unto you: ye shall not² sow,ºª neither² reapºª² that which groweth¹ of itself² in it, nor² gatherºª [the grapes] in it² of thy vine undressed.º 12 For² it² [is] the jubile;º it shall be² holyº unto you: ye shall eatºª² the increaseº thereof out of² the field.º 13 In the yearº of this² jubileº ye shall returnºª every manº unto² his possession.º

Of oppression.

14 And if² thou sellºª oughtº unto thy neighbour,º or² buyestºª [ought] of thy neighbour's¹ hand,º²² ye shall not² oppressºª oneº² another:º 15 According to the numberº of yearsº afterº the jubileº thou shalt buyºª of²² thy neighbour,º [and] according unto the numberº of yearsº of the fruitsº he shall sellºª unto thee: 16 According¹ to² the multitudeº of yearsº thou shalt increaseºª the priceº thereof, and according¹ to² the fewnessºª of yearsº thou shalt diminishºª the priceº of it: for² [according] to the numberº [of the years] of the fruitsº doth he² sellºª unto thee. 17 Ye shall not² therefore oppressºª² oneº another;º but thou shalt fear¹ª thy God:º²² for² I² [am] the LORDº your God.º

A blessing of obedience.

18 ¶ Wherefore ye shall doºª² my statutes,º and keepºª my judgments,º and doºª them; and ye shall dwellºª in² the landº in safety.º 19 And the landº shall yieldºª her fruit,º and ye shall eatºª your fill,º and dwellºª therein² in safety.º 20 And if² ye shall say,ºª What² shall we eatºª the seventhº year?º behold,² we shall not² sow,ºª nor² gather¹ª in²² our increase:º 21 Then I will commandºª² my blessingº upon you in the sixthº year,º and it shall bring forthºª² fruitº for threeº years.º 22 And ye shall sowºª the² eighthº year,º and eatºª [yet] of² oldº fruitº until² the ninthº year;º until² her fruitsº come inºª ye shall eatºª [of] the oldº [store].

The redemption of the land,

23 ¶ The landº shall not² be soldºª for ever:º for² the landº [is] mine; for² ye² [are] strangersº and sojournersº with² me. 24 And in all² the landº of your possessionº ye shall grantºª a redemptionº for the land.º

25 ¶ If² thy brotherº be waxen poor,ºª and hath sold¹ª away² [some] of his possession,º² and if any of his kinº² comeºª to redeemºª it, then shall he redeemºª² that which his brother¹ sold.º² 26 And if² the manº have² none to redeemºª² it, and himselfº² be ableº¹ª² to redeemº¹ª it; 27 Then let him countºª² the yearsº of the saleº thereof, and restoreºª² the overplusºª unto the manº to whom² he soldºª it; that he may returnºª unto his possession.º 28 But if² heº be not ableº²² to restoreº¹ªª [it] to him, then that which is soldº shall remain² in the handº of him that hath boughtºª it until² the yearº of jubile:º and in the jubileº it shall go out,ºª and he shall returnºª unto his possession.º

of houses.

29 And if² a manº sellºª a dwellingº houseº in a walledº city,º then he may redeemº² it within² a wholeºª yearº after it is sold;º [within] a full yearº may he redeemº² it. 30 And if² it be not² redeemedºª within² the spaceºª of a fullº year,º then the houseº that² [is] in the walledº² cityº shall be establishedºª for everº to him that boughtºª it throughout his generations:º it shall not² go outºª in the jubile.º 31 But the housesº of the villagesº which² have no² wallº round aboutº them shall be countedºª as² the fieldsº of the country:º they may be² redeemed,º and they shall go outºª in the jubile.º 32 Notwithstanding the citiesº of the Levites,º [and] the housesº of the citiesº of their possession,º may the Levitesº redeemº² at any time.º 33 And if a man² purchaseºª of² the Levites,º then the houseº that was sold,º and the cityº of his possession,º shall go outºª in [the year of] jubile:º for² the housesº of the citiesº of the Levitesº [are] their possessionº amongº the childrenº of Israel.º 34 But the fieldº of the suburbsº of their citiesº may not² be sold;ºª for² it² [is] their perpetualº possession.º

Compassion of the poor.

35 ¶ And if² thy brotherº be waxen poor,ºª and fallen in decayºª² with² thee;¹ then thou shalt relieveºª him: [yea, though he be] a stranger,º or a sojourner;º that he may live¹² with² thee. 36 Takeºª thou no² usuryº of²² him, or increase:º but fear¹ª thy God;º²² that thy brotherº may live¹² with² thee. 37 Thou shalt not² giveºª him² thy moneyº upon usury,º nor² lendºª him thy victualsº for increase.º 38 I² [am] the LORDº your God,º which² brought you forthºª² out of the landº² of Egypt,º to giveºª you² the landº of Canaan,º [and] to be² your God.º

The usage of bondmen.

39 ¶ And if² thy brotherº [that dwelleth] by² thee be waxen poor,ºª and be soldºª unto thee; thou shalt not² compel¹ª him to serve¹² as a bondservant:º² 40 [But] as an hired servant,º [and] as a sojourner,º he shall be² with² thee, [and] shall serveºª² thee unto² the yearº of jubile:º 41 And [then] shall he departºª from²² thee, [both] he² and his childrenº with² him, and shall returnºª unto² his own family,º and unto² the possessionº of his fathersº shall he return.ºª 42 For² they² [are] my servants,º which² I brought forthºª out of the landº² of Egypt:º they shall not² be soldºª as¹ bondmen.º² 43 Thou shalt not² ruleºª over him with rigour;º but shalt fear¹ª thy God.º²² 44 Both thy bondmen,º and thy bondmaids,º which² thou shalt have,² [shall be] of²² the heathenº that² are round aboutº you; of² them shall ye buyºª bondmenº and bondmaids.º 45 Moreover² of the childrenº² of the strangersº that do sojournºª among² you, of² them shall ye buy,ºª and of their familiesº² that² [are] with² you, which² they begatºª in your land:º and they shall be² your possession.º 46 And ye shall take them as an inheritanceºª² for your childrenº afterº you, to inheritºª [them for] a possession;º they shall be your bondmenºª for ever:º but over your brethrenº the childrenº of Israel,º ye shall not² ruleºª oneº over anotherº with rigour.º

The redemption of servants.

47 ¶ And if² a sojournerº² or strangerº wax richºª by² thee,¹ and thy brotherº [that dwelleth] by² him wax poor,ºª and sell¹ª himself² unto the strangerº [or] sojournerº by² thee, or² to the stockº of the stranger'sº family:º 48 After¹ that² he is soldºª he may be² redeemed again;º oneº of his brethrenº² may redeemºª him: 49 Either² his uncle,º or² his uncle'sº son,º may redeemºª him, or² [any] that is nighº² of kinº unto him of his familyº² may redeemºª him; or² if he be able,ºª² he may redeem¹ª himself.¹² 50 And he shall reckonºª with² him that boughtºª him from the yearº² that he was soldºª to him unto² the yearº of jubile:º and the priceº of his saleº shall be² according unto the numberº of years,º according to the timeº of an hired servantº shall it be² with² him. 51 If² [there be] yet² manyº yearsº [behind], according¹ unto² them he shall give againºª the price of his redemptionº out of the moneyº² that he was boughtº for. 52 And if² there remainºª but fewº yearsº unto² the yearº of jubile,º then he shall countºª with him, [and] according¹ unto² his yearsº shall he give him againºª² the price of his redemption.º 53 [And] as a yearlyº hired servantº shall he be² with² him: [and the other] shall not² rule¹ª with rigour¹ over²² him in thy sight.º 54 And if² he be not² redeemedºª in these² [years], then he shall go outºª in the yearº of jubile,º [both] he,² and his childrenº with² him. 55 For² unto me the childrenº of Israelº [are] servants;º they² [are] my servantsº whom²² I brought forthºª out of the landº² of Egypt:º I² [am] the LORDº your God.º
