By Naomi's instruction,

1 ¶ Then Naomiº her mother in lawº saidºª unto her, My daughter,º shall I not² seekºª restº for thee, that² it may be wellºª with thee? 2 And now² [is] not² Boazº of our kindred,º with² whose² maidensº thou wast?² Behold,² he² winnowethºª barleyº to nightº in² the threshingfloor.º 3 Washºª thyself therefore, and anointºª thee, and putºª thy raimentº upon² thee, and get thee downºª to the floor:º [but] make not thyself knownºª² unto the man,º until² he shall have doneºª eatingºª and drinking.ºª 4 And it shall be,² when he lieth down,ºª that thou shalt markºª² the placeº where²² he shall lie,ºª and thou shalt go in,ºª and uncoverºª his feet,º and lay thee down;ºª and he² will tellºª thee² what² thou shalt do.ºª

Ruth lieth at Boaz's feet.

5 And she saidºª unto² her, All² that² thou sayestºª unto² me I will do.ºª

6 ¶ And she went downºª unto the floor,º and didºª according to all² that² her mother in lawº badeºª her. 7 And when Boazº had eatenºª and drunk,ºª and his heartº was merry,ºª he wentºª to lie downºª at the endº of the heap of corn:º and she cameºª softly,º and uncoveredºª his feet,º and laid her down.ºª

Boaz acknowledgeth the right of a kinsman.

8 ¶ And it came to pass² at midnight,ºº that the manº was afraid,ºª and turned¹ª himself:² and, behold,² a womanº layºª at his feet.º 9 And he said,ºª Who² [art] thou?² And she answered,ºª I² [am] Ruthº thine handmaid:º spreadºª therefore thy skirtº over² thine handmaid;º for² thou² [art] a near kinsman.ºª 10 And he said,ºª Blessedºª [be] thou² of the LORD,º my daughter:º [for] thou hast shewed¹ª more² kindnessº in the latter endº than² at the beginning,º inasmuch as thou followedstº¹ª² notº young men,º whether² poorº or² rich.º 11 And now,² my daughter,º fearºª not;² I will doºª to thee all² that² thou requirest:ºª for² all² the cityº of my peopleº doth knowºª that² thou [art] a virtuousº woman.º 12 And now²² it is trueº that²² I² [am thy] near kinsman:ºª howbeit² there isº a kinsmanºª nearerº than² I. 13 Tarryºª this night,º and it shall be² in the morning,º [that] if² he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman,ºª well;º let him do the kinsman's part:ºª but if² he willºª not² do the part of a kinsmanºª to thee, then will I² do the part of a kinsmanºª to thee, [as] the LORDº liveth:º lie downºª until² the morning.º

He sendeth her away with six measures of barley.

14 ¶ And she layºª at his feetº until² the morning:º and she rose upºª beforeº oneº could knowºª² another.º And he said,ºª Let it not² be knownºª that² a womanº cameºª into the floor.º 15 Also he said,ºª Bringºª the vailº that² [thou hast] upon² thee, and holdºª it. And when she heldºª it, he measuredºª sixº [measures] of barley,º and laidºª [it] on² her: and she went¹ª into² the city.º 16 And when she cameºª to² her mother in law,º she said,ºª Who² [art] thou,² my daughter?º And she toldºª her² all² that² the manº had doneºª to her. 17 And she said,ºª These² sixº [measures] of barleyº gaveºª he me; for² he saidºª to² me, Goºª not² emptyº unto² thy mother in law.º 18 Then saidºª she, Sit still,ºª my daughter,º until²² thou knowºª how² the matterº will fall:ºª for² the manº will not² be in rest,ºª untilº² he have finishedºª the thingº this day.º
