NASB — Job 7 — KJV

Job’s Life Seems Futile

  1IIs not man° aforced° to labor° on earth°,
And [are not] his days° like the days° of ba hired° man°?
  2 “As a slave° who pants° for the shade°,
  And as a hired° man° who eagerly° waits° for his wages°,
  3 So° am I allotted° months° of vanity°,
  And anights° of trouble° are appointed° me.
  4 “When° I alie° down° I say°,
  ‘When° shall I arise°?’
  But the night° continues°,
  And I am Icontinually° tossing° until° dawn°.
  5 “My aflesh° is clothed° with worms° and a crust° of dirt°,
  My skin° hardens° and runs°.
  6 “My days° are aswifter° than° a weaver’s° shuttle°,
  And come° to an end° bwithout° hope°.

Job excuseth his desire of death.

1 ¶ [Is there] not² an appointed timeº to manº upon² earth?º [are not] his daysº also like the daysº of an hireling?º 2 As a servantº earnestly desirethºª the shadow,º and as an hirelingº looketh¹ª for² [the reward of] his work:º 3 So² am I made to possessºª monthsº of vanity,º and wearisomeº nightsº are appointedºª to me. 4 When² I lie down,ºª I say,ºª When² shall I arise,ºª and the nightº be gone?º and I am fullºª of tossings to and froº unto² the dawning of the day.º 5 My fleshº is clothedºª with wormsº and clodsº of dust;º my skinº is broken,ºª and become loathsome.ºª 6 My daysº are swifterºª than² a weaver's shuttle,º and are spentºª withoutº hope.º 7 O rememberºª that² my lifeº [is] wind:º mine eyeº shall no² moreºª seeºª good.º 8 The eyeº of him that hath seenº me shall seeºª me no² [more]: thine eyesº [are] upon me, and I [am] not.² 9 [As] the cloudº is consumedºª and vanisheth away:¹ª² so² he that goeth downºª to the graveº shall come upºª no² [more]. 10 He shall returnºª no² more² to his house,º neither² shall his placeº knowºª him any more.² 11 Therefore² I² will not² refrainºª my mouth;º I will speakºª in the anguishº of my spirit;º I will complainºª in the bitternessº of my soul.º
