Pharaoh Warned of Assyria’s Fate

1 In the aeleventh°° year°, in the third° [month], on the first° of the month°, the word° of the LORD° came° to me saying°, 2 “Son° of man°, say° to Pharaoh° king° of Egypt° and to his ahordes°,
  ‘Whom°° are you like° in your greatness°?
  3 ‘Behold°, Assyria° [was] a acedar° in Lebanon°
  With beautiful° branches° and forest° shade°,
  And Ibvery° high°,
  And its top° was among° the IIclouds°.
  4 ‘The awaters° made it grow°, the Ideep° made° it high°.
  With its rivers° it continually IIextended° all° around° its planting° place°,
  And sent° out its channels° to all° the trees° of the field°.
  5 ‘Therefore°° aits height° was loftier° than° all° the trees° of the field°
  And its boughs° became° many° and its branches° long°
  Because° of bmany° waters° Ias it spread° them out.
  6 ‘All° the abirds° of the heavens° nested° in its boughs°,
  And under° its branches° all° the beasts° of the field° gave° birth°,
  And all° great° nations° lived° under its shade°.
  7 ‘So it was beautiful° in its greatness°, in the length° of its branches°;
  For its Iroots° extended° to many° waters°.
  8 ‘The acedars° in bGod’s° garden° Icould not match° it;
  The IIcypresses° Icould not compare° with its boughs°,
  And the plane° trees° IIIcould not match its branches°.
  No°° tree° in bGod’s° garden° Icould compare° with it in its beauty°.
  9 ‘I made° it beautiful° with the multitude° of its branches°,
  And all° the trees° of aEden°, which° were in the agarden° of God°, were jealous° of it.

A relation unto Pharaoh,

1 ¶ And it came to pass² in the eleventhºº year,º in the thirdº [month], in the firstº [day] of the month,º [that] the wordº of the LORDº came² unto² me, saying,ºª 2 Sonº of man,º speakºª unto² Pharaohº kingº of Egypt,º and to² his multitude;º Whom²² art thou likeºª in thy greatness?º

of the glory of Assyria,

3 ¶ Behold,² the Assyrianº [was] a cedarº in Lebanonº with fairº branches,º and with a shadowingºª shroud,º and of an highº stature;º and his topº was² among² the thick boughs.º 4 The watersº made him great,ºª the deepº set him up on highºª with² her riversº runningºª round aboutº his plants,º and sent outºª her little riversº unto² all² the treesº of the field.º 5 Therefore²² his heightº was exaltedºª above all²² the treesº of the field,º and his boughsº were multiplied,ºª and his branchesº became longºª because of the multitudeº of waters,º² when he shot forth.ºª 6 All² the fowlsº of heavenº made their nestsºª in his boughs,º and under² his branchesº did all² the beastsº of the fieldº bring forth their young,ºª and under his shadowº dweltºª all² greatº nations.º 7 Thus was he fairºª in his greatness,º in the lengthº of his branches:º for² his rootº was² by² greatº waters.º 8 The cedarsº in the gardenº of Godº could not² hideºª him: the fir treesº were not likeºª²² his boughs,º and the chesnut treesº were² not² like his branches;º nor² any² treeº in the gardenº of Godº was likeºª unto² him in his beauty.º 9 I have madeºª him fairº by the multitudeº of his branches:º so that all² the treesº of Eden,º that² [were] in the gardenº of God,º enviedºª him.

and the fall thereof for pride.

10 ¶ Therefore² thus² saithºª the Lordº GOD;º Because²² thou hast lifted upºª thyself in height,º and he hath shot upºª his topº among²² the thick boughs,º and his heartº is lifted upºª in his height;º 11 I have therefore deliveredºª him into the handº of the mighty one¹² of the heathen;º he shall surely¹ª dealºª with him: I have driven him outºª for his wickedness.º 12 And strangers,ºª the terribleº of the nations,º have cut him off,ºª and have leftºª him: upon² the mountainsº and in all² the valleysº his branchesº are fallen,ºª and his boughsº are brokenºª by all² the riversº of the land;º and all² the peopleº of the earthº are gone downºª from his shadow,º² and have leftºª him. 13 Upon² his ruinº shall all² the fowlsº of the heavenº remain,ºª and all² the beastsº of the fieldº shall be² upon² his branches:º 14 To the end² that² none² of all² the treesº by the watersº exalt¹ª themselves² for their height,º neither² shoot upºª² their topº among²² the thick boughs,º neither² their treesº stand upºª in their height,º all² that drinkºª water:º for² they are all² deliveredºª unto death,º to² the nether partsº of the earth,º in the midstº of the childrenº of men,º with² them that go downºª to the pit.º 15 Thus² saithºª the Lordº GOD;º In the dayº when he went downºª to the graveº I caused a mourning:ºª I coveredºª² the deepº for² him, and I restrainedºª the floodsº thereof, and the greatº watersº were stayed:ºª and I caused Lebanonº to mournºª for² him, and all² the treesº of the fieldº faintedº for² him. 16 I made the nationsº to shakeºª at the soundº² of his fall,º when I cast him downºª² to hellº with² them that descendºª into the pit:º and all² the treesº of Eden,º the choiceº and bestº of Lebanon,º all² that drinkºª water,º shall be comfortedºª in the nether partsº of the earth.º 17 They² also² went downºª into hellº with² him unto² [them that be] slainº with the sword;º and [they that were] his arm,º [that] dweltºª under his shadowº in the midstº of the heathen.º
