David fetcheth the Ark with great solemnity from Kirjath-jearim.

1 ¶ And Davidº consultedºª with² the captainsº of thousandsº and hundreds,º [and] with every² leader.º 2 And Davidº saidºª unto all² the congregationº of Israel,º If² [it seem] goodºª unto² you, and [that it be] of² the LORDº our God,º let us sendºª abroadºª unto² our brethrenº every where, [that are] leftºª in all² the landº of Israel,º and with² them [also] to the priestsº and Levitesº [which are] in their citiesº [and] suburbs,º that they may gather¹ª themselves² unto² us: 3 And let us bring againºª² the arkº of our Godº to² us: for² we enquiredºª not² at it in the daysº of Saul.º 4 And all² the congregationº saidºª that they would do² so:¹ª² for² the thingº was rightºª in the eyesº of all² the people.º 5 So Davidº gatheredºª² all² Israelº together,¹ª from² Shihorº of Egyptº even unto² the enteringºª of Hemath,º to bringºª² the arkº of Godº from Kirjathjearim.º² 6 And Davidº went up,ºª and all² Israel,º to Baalah,º [that is], to² Kirjathjearim,º which² [belonged] to Judah,º to bring upºª thence²²² the arkº of Godº the LORD,º that dwellethºª [between] the cherubims,º whose² nameº is calledºª [on it]. 7 And they carriedºª² the arkº of Godº in² a newº cartº out of the houseº² of Abinadab:º and Uzzaº and Ahioº draveºª the cart.º 8 And Davidº and all² Israelº playedºª beforeº Godº with all² [their] might,º and with singing,º and with harps,º and with psalteries,º and with timbrels,º and with cymbals,º and with trumpets.º

Uzza being smitten, the Ark left at the house of Obed-edom.

9 ¶ And when they cameºª unto² the threshingfloorº of Chidon,º Uzzaº put forthºª² his handº to holdºª² the ark;º for² the oxenº stumbled.ºª 10 And the angerº of the LORDº was kindledºª against Uzza,º and he smoteºª² him, because²² he putºª his handº to² the ark:º and there² he diedºª beforeº God.º 11 And Davidº was displeased,ºª because² the LORDº had madeºª a breachº upon Uzza:º wherefore that² placeº is calledºª Perezuzzaº to² this² day.º 12 And Davidº was afraidºª² of Godº that² day,º saying,ºª Howº shall I bringºª² the arkº of Godº [home] to² me? 13 So Davidº broughtºª not²² the arkº [home] to² himself to² the cityº of David,º but carried it asideºª into² the houseº of Obededomº the Gittite.º 14 And the arkº of Godº remainedºª with² the familyº of Obededomº in his houseº threeº months.º And the LORDº blessedºª² the houseº of Obededom,º and all² that² he had.
